Is lots of cardio a MUST to lose weight? ➡️Short answer: 100% unnecessary. When I weighed 84 kgs, my goal obviously was to lose weight. To do that, I simply created a calorie deficit. I ate wholesome foods, cut out most simple carbs and replaced at least one meal a day with a low calorie, nutritional shake (Herbalife💚) so that I didn’t have to keep counting calories. Eventually with the help of creating a meal plan with a specific calorific deficit, I was able to lose all 28kgs. Did I do cardio all along? Yes, but only a very small amount, that is a daily walk for 2-3 kms that was necessary for me to feel better and unwind (baby stress👶), and improve my cardiovascular function. In my hypo-caloric environment, my goal was to lose body fat while preserving lean muscle. Hence, the fewer calories that I was eating had to be focused on maintaining muscle tissue and if I devoted unnecessary energy for cardio, I would be working against my goal. 🎯It was much easier for me to reduce a helping of sweet everyday rather than run for 45 mins. So does it mean I was not exercising at all? Of course not! Like I said, since I wanted to maintain lean muscle mass, my focus was not on running to burn calories but to do some workout which challenged my muscles in a short while. Between a job and a baby, when time was more than gold, I had to somehow find a way to work my muscles and burn calories without killing myself on the treadmill or elliptical everyday. So I did simple things like taking the stairs each time, doing 10 squats and 10 wall pushups everytime I was in the loo, bought a pair of ankle weights and strapped them to my hands/feet while I was working around the house, etc... Eventually, when I lost all the weight, I started including weights and also increased my calorie allowance. So in short, there is no reason to burn yourself out with heavy cardio everyday. Instead, chose an activity that you enjoy and can live with for a lifetime. Then, adjust your food intake to reach your weight loss goals. If you want to lose weight, eat less. Once achieved, increase your calories (with the correct food) and then hike up your workout to build muscle and endurance!
