For those of us familiar with #churchculture, we hear phrases that sound really awesome. But when it comes to applying them, do you ever feel at a loss? One of those phrases for me is, "I'm free in Christ". Recently, I feel stuck, isolated, frustrated, confused, hurt, and sad. I definitely don't feel free. At least not regularly. But, feelings aren't facts. Right? * * * Freedom doesn't come naturally, or easily. It doesn't come without hardship, #struggle, pain or heartache. It's not a pretty process either. Christ suffered the greatest death, in order to atone for our sins that we may live freely with Him and His Father in #heaven forever. If Christ's death on the cross is a representation of what it looks like to be set free - why in the world would we imagine freedom to come easily and without a cost? As Christ suffered greatly, and surrendered His life for our freedom, then freedom - our choice to live freely through Him - would ultimately mean we too have to sacrifice something. I tried to eat the things I ate on certain days before my daily binges but I was so overwhelmed and confused by not being able to binge and not having all these foods that I basically threw everything together and tried to satisfy every craving. (the cake was so moist and good) I had I even worked out that night and felt so good!

This quote has really resonated with me this year. You can only truly heal if you work out what's happened in your life. I posted the following on my story last weekend and thought "Might as well share it on my feed too!" As most of you know, I try to open up about topics that are hard to discuss in this society. One of them being mental health. Last weekend I broke down crying to my mother. I told her that I want to die and that I hate myself. I was so tired of my battle between my head and my heart. After calming down a little, I prayed to Allah swt and I asked "Please, give me strength." and He provided me with just that. Never think that God won't hear or fulfill your prayers. He will provide when the time is right. He will even give you signs you may not have thought as potential ones. And I know very well. Once you hit rock bottom, your lowest of lows. Everything seems hopeless. About 10 years ago, I'd ask Allah swt "Why? Why me?" as far even to go and say "You are not there. If there was a real God, he would never let me suffer so much!" One night, in that pain I begged for God to give me some sign that He is real. And He listened, He gave me a sign I did not even think to look for. A verse of the Quran. Surah Al Baqarah, 2:286 "Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. After a difficulty he will soon grant relief." I can still remember how much I cried.. because to 1 "Oh Allah." He will answer 100 times "I am here." and he did. I know that my faith can always improve, as can my knowledge. Once again, I have hit rock bottom multiple times. Not just as a person, but in regard of my faith and spirituality too. I understand. It's tough, painful, it's frustrating, tiring and very scary. But believe me. With all of that, and your lowest of lows. There is only one way forwards. And that is climbing back up! Please try not to be hard on yourself. Because God isn't either. He loves you so so much. As tough as it is, try to feel His love and let it fill you to the brim. that's what I got when I was outside, instead going to uni.. I had an early appt w my new doctor bc of all these sudden changes w binges and my edema and everything and I even had some tomatoes before the appt but I ended up eating again at home

I’ve been a little missing on social media but the past week has been filled with fear, uncertainty, anxiety and lots of questioning. When I hurt my lower back in a severe spasm doing umpteen squats with a 20kg med ball, I questioned the purpose of all those repetitions and intense training. When I couldn’t bend to touch my thighs, I questioned where all the years of yoga had gone, from beyond the toes to nowhere. The doctor put me on muscle relaxants to calm the numerous reoccurring spasms, the pain was calmed but I couldn’t feel my legs anymore. I felt so helpless, I had a deeming fear I would be immobile for life and to me movement is life. J told me you’re a fighter, battle through this, don’t give up. Give up? Hell no giving up gives me no right to preach or motivate. But as I slowly pushed through physiotherapy, yoga, mobility and less weighted classes, I started regaining strength and baby stepped my way back into bending forward and picking up my boys. I was in such dilemma ! . The Aftermath? Lots of lumbar spinal tension, limited range of motion in squats, inability to lift heavy, jump or practice inversions and my legs are still somewhat numb. But I’ve come from not being able to bend at all to mobility at 1 week post injury. Have 4 weeks to go for full recovery. No this isn’t the end of the world. I am so blessed to still be alive, to be able to do all that I can and I am so sorry about taking the body for granted time and again. FACING YOUR FEARS Exposure therapy is a psychological treatment that was developed to help people confront their fears. When people are fearful of something, they tend to avoid the feared objects, activities, or situations. Although this avoidance might help reduce feelings of fear in the short term, over the long term it can make the fear become even worse. In such situations, a psychologist might recommend a program of exposure therapy in order to help break the pattern of avoidance & fear. During therapy, psychologists help the client to construct an exposure fear hierarchy, in which feared objects, activities, or situations are ranked according to difficulty. The last step on the hierarchy represents the situation or activity the individual fears most. EG. if a person is fearful of eating in front of others & would like to be able to eat a meal in a local cafe, the following hierarchy could be adapted according to how fearful they find each step. * Have a drink at the cafe early in the morning when there are few people around. * Have a drink at lunch time when the cafe is busy. * Drink & a sandwich at lunchtime. * Full meal (using cutlery) & stay for 20 minutes minimum. * Have a full meal (using cutlery) & stay until all the meal is eaten.
