I’ve always collected my own clip art. Why? I’m not entirely certain. They’ve all come from discarded books from libraries. Perhaps I wanted to preserve it somehow. All I know is that I have folders full of them. They are old, beautiful and inspiring. I have flowers, animals, countries, vehicles, and on and on.. Here are 2 examples: The first group is from an old literature book. The second group adds to my ancient Egyptian collection. Something you might not know about me, I almost decided to get my masters in Biblical Archaeology! I’ve always had a love for history and adventure! :) #history #oldbooks #library #disgarded #literature #illustrations #ancientegypt #archaeology

This fresco of a woman with a book from a house in Pompeii transfixed me today in the Archaeological Museum in Naples. Such a beautiful image of a sophisticated and intelligent woman. There is something so compelling about the gesture: pressing the stylus against her lips as she pauses to think. It is hard to comprehend how the Romans could be so culturally advanced and then it all disappeared for centuries. #pompeii #fresco #naples #portraiture #romanart #ancientromans #archaeology

Will you be watching tonight’s Total Lunar Eclipse? At our remote field camp in Turkana in July 2018, WTAP had front row seats to watch the last time the moon moved through the Earth’s shadow. The Moon looked small but bright red, hanging just above Mars: both of them completely dwarfed by the Milky Way galaxy, streaking across the inky blackness of the night sky. Turkana’s equatorial position and the complete absence of light pollution or other distractions at camp make it a spectacular place to see the stars. Tonight’s eclipse will sadly only be partial in Kenya, but the Moon will appear totally red in North and South America, Western Europe and North West Africa. It begins at 21.36 EST (02.36 GMT) and will be at maximum magnitude at 00.12 EST (05.12GMT). And it’s free! Final album from my first deployment overseas to Iraq. Amazing sites. 1. On one of our many convoys we ended up going near the Museum of Babylon. I was able to sweet talk the interpreter there. He gave us a tour. This is a replica of the gate of Ishtar. Apparently Hitler tried to take the original and in so doing it Crumbled and fell apart. 2. If I understand the interpreter correctly this is part of the excavated town of Babylon. I think maybe he was saying they had been reconstructing it also. 3. When we arrived the interpreter said that there was still active digs going on. When we were at this one site he said that somewhere nearby was the den in which Daniel was thrown into. 4. This is the Lion of Babylon. If you’ve ever read Nelson DeMille’s book “By the Rivers of Babylon,” he mentions the statue and this whole location that we were walking in. Another reason why I don’t lend my books out, a Marine left this book of mine in a cooler of water and completely ruined it. 5. Out of order but this is the border between Iraq and Kuwait. They don’t bother with walls. They just dig big freakin trenches. 6. Nebuchadnezzar pasted his stamp on brickyard sent them throughout his empire. It basically says “I’m the Man” 7. The interpreter said this stage was where Alexander the Great has died sitting in a chair. He also said it was the room that the mysterious hand appeared and wrote on the wall at Belshazzar’s feast. #archaeology #amazingsites #iraq #iraqwar #babylon #beautifulcountry #amazinghistory #history

ATEPEC (one of a protagonist character of LAMBAYEQUE EXPEDITION) and the non-named Nazca warrior, after the battle. Atepec controlling the Nazca warrior's head. This grip is meaning of the battles end, and very popular in Central and South-America. If he pull it back fastly his hand, will most likely broke the another warriors neck. (Ouh and did you know the Nazca civilization and the Moché civilization are lived in same time?) The Mochica warriors never killed their enemies, because they are want the victims of their human sacrifice rituals. But about of Atepec's warrior clothes: I made and painted his clothes about of a Mochica vessel, what represent a battle. His helmet and his short tunic (unco) have a copper pieces. If you are seeing as well of his clothes, see the copper axe (tumi) shape. For long time the Archaeologists are thought this is a real big tumi, what is hanging about of the warriors belt. Now we know this is not a ceremonical copper axe, more than a "buttock" armour. #lambayequeexpedition #lambayeque #atepec #ancienthistory #preinca #precolumbian #arte #artistoninsta #historical #peruvianart #peru #peruviano #peruvianhistory #mochica #moche #archaeology #arqueologia #pachacutecyupanquiart

The Zeugma Mosaic Museum covers an area of 30,000 square meters and includes three different buildings, which have five seminar and conference rooms, administrative units, a library and exhibition fields. The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut (Deir el Bahri) The mortuary temple of Hatshepsut is the most beautiful in the necropolis, and the queen herselfis one of the most colourful figures in ancient Egyptian history. She was the daughter of Thutmose I and the only one of his children of direct royal lineage, being the child of the Great Royal Wife, Queen Ahmose. Her two half- brothers were by lesser wives. However, Hatshepsut ruled concurrently with Thutmose II and his son, Thutmose III. For half a century (c. 1500-1450 BC) there occurred what is usually regarded as a feud in the family of the Thutmosides: evidence of pharaonic vanity (Hatshepsut removed part of the roof of her father’s colonnade at Karnak in order to erect her great granite obelisks), petty jealousy (Thutmose III later built a wall to hide her obelisks and removed her name in order to insert his own), and what might be seen as vicious acts of frustration. Hatshepsut’s body has never been identified with certainty. Her red sandstone sarcophagus had been enlarged to receive the body of her father, Thutmose I, while her own sarcophagus contained the mummy of Thutmose II, who appears to have died prematurely, after a short co-regency with Hatshepsut. Then, when Thutmose III finally came to the throne, he obliterated all references to the ‘female pharaoh’ from every temple in the land, particularly from Deir el Bahri. Hatsheptsut is also a romantic figure, for her name is closely linked with that of her architect, Senmut, who designed her terraced sanctuary. He rose from the position of tutor to her daughter to one of great influence in the court. In fact, he was granted the privilege of constructing his tomb below the mortuary temple of his queen, and inscriptions in some parts of her temple show that they were intimately related.

Detail of the chair of Princess Sitamun which was discovered in the tomb of Yuya and Thuya. Sitamun was the couple's granddaughter - a child of Amenhotep III and his Great Royal Wife, Queen Tiye. Sitamun can be seen depicted on the seatback and can be seen receiving offerings of gold collars (Photo 1). A three-dimensional image of the princess also adorns either side of the chair seat (Photo 2). It is rather touching that her chair was found in the tomb of Yuya and Thuya, perhaps placed as a memento dedicated to her beloved grandparents. #egyptology #archaeology #ancientegypt #hieroglyphs #hieroglyphics #yuya #thuya #egyptianmuseum #princess #gold

Reposted from @archeo_gram - ⭕The Piraeus Athena was discovered in 1959, by workers who were drilling underground to install pipes. Bronze was first hit 1.5 meters below the ground; a few days later, they uncovered the statue at the intersection of Georgiou I Street and Philonos Street. The excavation of the statue was led by Efthymios Mastrokostas. The Piraeus Athena was found with three more large bronze statues, along with other artifacts. The Piraeus Athena was discovered in very good condition; however, it underwent irreparable damage after being abandoned on the damp floor of the Piraeus Museum according to the scholar, Steinhauer. ▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️▪️ #archeogram #archeologia #bronze #athena #athens #ig_europe #travelgreece #greece #habour #weapons #armor #love #hair #helmet #empire #eyes #beautiful #piraeus #museums #artifacts #mediterranean #university #god - #regrann #archaeology #art #arthistory #history #ancient #ancientart

Basta dolcetti...adesso su ritorna a regime! Quindi vi saluto e vi auguro la #buonanotte con questa meraviglia egizia 😍 #repost @egyptologydaily • • • • • One of the beautiful large shabtis made of cedar, ebony, gilded gold, and precious stones found in situ by Howard Carter in 1922. Cedar was imported from the Syro-Palestine region since the Predynastic Period, e.g. Tomb of Den. Gold was exploited by the Egyptians in the Eastern Desert and eventually in the Lower Nubian region (now modern Upper Sudan). Tutankhamun is shown in a short plaited Nubian wig and a serpentine coronet and fillet. Around his neck he wears a gilded broad-collar necklace. The finely carved features in wood and inlay brings the statue to life. His arms are crossed and he grasps the crook in his left hand while in his right was most likely the flail. Both insignia were associated with Osiris and kingship. New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, KV 62.
