THE BECKONING SHADOW [5⭐️] I just finished my first book for the Reading Rush, also my make up matched my book today. I got this book in the July @beaconbookbox and oh my gosh, talk about unexpected. I went into this without reading the synopsis and I was pleasantly surprised. This book was incredible and unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Mind powers, adventure, romance, what more could you ask for? This book has it all. #thebeckoningshadow #fivestarread #thereadingrush2019 #purplecover #bookrecommendations #bookreview

Guuuuys, I’m gonna day it: this right here is going to be one of the biggest books of 2019. I loved @reafrey last novel so when I got this one I knew it’d be amazing and it didn’t disappoint. The secrets the characters hold are so subtly intertwined, the pacing is absolute perfection (couldn’t set it down even to sleep, and I love my sleep!) and the conclusion is stunning. I love how thought provoking this story is. I’d read one character and think “yeah I’d do that” and then read the counter to that action in the next chapter and think, “we’ll wait, I’d do that too!” So good. I for sure recommend this to any thriller fan but really any reader in general. It’s too good to miss! As always, a big thanks to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the ARC and to @reafrey for writing such an incredible story. 📚 . . . . #bookstagram #book #books #bookshelf #bookclub #bookalicious #bookworm #bookish #bookaholic #bookreview #review #read #reading #reader #readersofinstagram #thriller #novel #amreading #readmore #fiction #becauseyouremine #reafrey #stmartinspress #netgalley #currentlyreading #recommended

I’ve been reading The Astrology of You & Me over the past month, and I’ve really enjoyed it so far! This book is set up in a really great way, where each sign is divided into relationships (bosses, coworkers, parents, lovers, exes, friends, siblings, etc.). Then each section goes into detail like how to woo a Gemini on a first date, how to ask a Libra boss for a raise, or how to discuss problems with a Sagittarius roommate. It’s been so interesting to read these perspectives on how to handle relationships in my own personal life! I’m not a full believer in astrology by any means, but I definitely don’t rule it out either! I highly suggest you pick up this book if you’re having trouble with relationships in your life, or even if you’re just plain interested in astrology!! plus, the artwork is just so aesthetically pleasing haha 🙌🏼 • • • #book #books #bookreview #bookworm #booknerd #bookstagram #currentlyreading #bibliophile #bookchat #goodreads #greatread #whattoread #whattoreadnext #astrology #astrologysigns #astrologybooks #garygoldschneider #nonfiction #nonfictionbooks #aesthetic #astrologyaesthetic

HOW TO MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE DARK by Kathleen Glasgow Friends, you must read this book! Fair warning, it will make you tear up, but it is worth the read. This was a #spiveys📚club pick and I am so glad I picked it up. Tiger is a high-schooler who suddenly loses her mom. She has no other family that she knows of, and is put into foster care. The story follows Tiger as she deals with loss, grief, discovering lost family members, learning about her mother's past and surviving high school. I learned so much about the foster system and was appalled to learn the stories of kids who fell into it. Their family lives were so disturbing and depressing, but it is a reality that many minors face. Tiger's grief was palpable, and I couldn't imagine being in her shoes. I don't want to give too much away, just read this amazing book! How to Make Friends With the Dark is one of those books that makes you grateful for what you have, and opens your eyes to how much worse it could be.

#bookreview #spoileralert The Infernal Devices by Philip Reeve Book 3 3rd in the series of the Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeve and I really enjoyed it. This book joins Hester and Tom years later in the waste lands of America in the static settlement of Anchorage with their daughter Wren. Along comes a pirate/lost boy Gargle to tempt her from her safe life in exchange for stealing the Tin book of Anchorage. Wren jumps at the chance to leave her boring dull life for the traction cities of the west and air havens that her parents have told her so much about. This is the start of a chain of events that drags Tom and Hester into their former life of adventure, lost boys, murder and war. Wanna be mad at both black and white people at the same time? Read this. I’m glad I read this book because I needed to be informed. However, ignorance is bliss. Due to the US government and school systems trying to downplay slavery and not properly educate us on it, there’s so much I did not know thoroughly. I had heard rumors that Africans sold us but I was not ready to read that. And because of media, you would think I would be numb to racist white people. But nope, still enrages me to experience and view unnecessary hatred. I felt so bad for the main character. He had such a hard life. I hope his soul is somewhere at peace. If you want to read more stories like this, there are several as a result of the Federal Writers’ Project. Look for Slave Narratives wherever you buy or borrow books.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Finished the sci-fi epic Dune this weekend, and I really can’t say enough good things about it! First, let’s get it out of the way, Dune is heavy; I constantly found myself jumping back to the glossary constantly to understand terms and phrases but the novels dynamic heavy themes of religion and politics really kept me going. The protagonist are engaging, with Herbert really borrowing from mythological archetypes and I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a villain like Harkonnen in a while. I probably would’ve given this one five stars, however while the 1st act is really engaging and fun, the second grinds to a slow halt and unfortunately ends somewhat anti-climatic. Still, it’s easy to see why Dune was so imaginative and revolutionary for its time, and when I’m ready for more heavy sci-fi reads, I’ll return to this series. #scifi #dune #bookstagram #books #bookshelf #read #tbr #bookreview #nowreading #

Todo libro nuevo que se publica en España tarda alrededor de un mes en llegar a Perú. You may have seen my vacation pictures in Maui. It’s so beautiful here. My family and I are having a blast! But what I want you to know is that even though my FB feed may look picture perfect, I acknowledge that I am not. My family is not.⁣ ⁣ And just to make things a little more real, the reality is my husband and I argued about what suitcases to take and how much to pack. Packing a family of 6 was stressful! ⁣ ⁣ We are traveling with teenagers. Enough said.⁣ ⁣ After our expensive dinner we went for a stroll in Lahaina on Front Street and I was lured in by the street salesman who said he could make my under- eye dark circles and wrinkles go away. ⁣ ⁣ I spent too much on a stupid eye cream and woke up to every single sales pitch line that hooked me in.⁣ ⁣ I don’t like to blame Satan for every bad thing that happens. But his sales pitch was sneaky and reminded me how Satan must work.⁣ ⁣ He lures us in. Tells us what we could have. What we could look like. Offers the shiny apple from the tree. Flatters you. Lies about what he will give you. ⁣ ⁣ Satan loves to slide into your mind so you don’t even realize what he is doing. He creeps into your life seeking to divide and destroy while offering beauty and luxury.⁣ ⁣ But when you realize this, you can look at your not so perfect life and say it’s enough. ⁣ ⁣ On our way back we went to Safeway. As we were walking into the store Meghan said her head hurt. We know that means she’s carsick and is about to throw up. She threw up right in front of the entrance to Safeway. It was quite a scene as I tried to stop people from walking right on it, lol. She felt better after that and the workers at Safeway were amazing as they showed empathy and concern for her while they mopped up vomit. ⁣ You see that’s what the middle of life looks like. It’s messy. Not really picture perfect. So I took a picture of that moment. I know, gross. I won’t post it, but it represents to me the reality of taking a family vacation. ⁣ ⁣ I loved how @lisajobaker ‘s #whythemiddlemattersbook reminded that I can take the picture perfect parts of life mixed with the messy parts and accept and enjoy my messy middle. #bookreview #whythemiddlematters

'I am afraid of being the disruptive woman. And of not being disruptive enough. I am afraid. But I am doing it anyway.’ • I definitely picked the best books to take with me on holiday, most of them have been 4 or 5 stars, #notestoself by #emiliepine falls into the 5 star category. • As is the norm, you can read my full review on waterstones/goodreads but this collection of personal essays is raw, beautiful and brave. I connected to it so much and would recommend it for anyone’s bedside table - it’s one of those kind of books that you can either swallow in one go (like I did) or dip in and out of. It’s glorious! ♡ Amélie Nothomb" Plak,širdie" This is a book that I really enjoyed and right now it's one of my favourites. Book tells a story of Diane and the way that she grew up to become a woman, that she always wanted to be, of course her mom was stopping her from that because she was jealous of her. This book shows a lot of different portraits of womans, who are connected to each other by past of by future. This book shows the way that parenting can go through generations and affect even the children of their children. 4/5 🌟 #amelienothomb#strikeyourheart#plakširdie#heart#jealous#womansportraits#woman#relationship#novel#flowers#petals#death#pastandfuture#children#love#knyga#myliuknyga#lovebook#bookredear#bookreview#bookstagram#likeforlike#followforfollow

This was entertaining and kept me reading it, but I think I’m just not a thriller kind of person. The main character (and a lot of the others) are seemingly the kind of characters I like to read about—ones that have a complicated history and are a bit messy—but there just wasn’t enough given for me to really love the story. Something I think that was done well, however, was the way the tension builds with Camille slowly feeling more and more claustrophobic in her hometown. The townspeople show their nasty sides and the setting tries to be its own character. The small town dynamics are really played up, but it works for the story. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #books #book #bookish #bookreview #booklove #booklover #booklovers #bookworm #bookworms #bookgeek #bookgeeks #booknerd #booknerds #bookblog #bookblogger #bookbloggers #bookblogging #bookaesthetic #thriller #gillianflynn #sharpobjects #bookphotography #bookphoto #bookgram #l4l #amreading

Book: One of us is lying Author: Karen M. McManus • • • • I was reading this book a while ago but then my mum did what mums do and had a bit of a tidy up and couldn't remember where she put it but yesterday I found it again so I decided to finish it. ⚠️Contraversial Opinion⚠️ I had such high hopes for this book as so many of my fellow #bibliophiles loved it. Unfortunately I did not. I felt it was just so cliché and predictable. I felt like I was watching a disney channel original movie but like a bad one. It kind of grabbed my attention at around page 275 but as quickly as it happened it was soon gone again. I did kind of like it in a way that made me feel like I was 13 again which I guess is also kind of a bad thing. If it was the author's intention to take the mick out if cliché teen movies then she definately succeeded but then in that case I don't think she was successful at conveying the "p*ss-taking" aspect. However I am definately open to reading her other books. • • Sorry about the aweful lighting🤦‍♀️ • • Leave book recommendations in the comments📚🤓 • • • • #bookreview #bibliophile #ilovereadingbooks💖📖 #ilovereadingbooks📚 #ilovereading #ilovereadingbooks #ilovereadingbooks❤ #notmyfavorite #contraversialopinion #ilovebooks #books #bookstagram #likeforlikes #likeandcomment #follow #reading #ilovereading📖 #badlighting #awefullighting

🤩🤩REVIEW🤩🤩 ▫️ A HIGHLANDER WALKS INTO A BAR by @lauratrentham Pub Date: 7/30/19 ▫️ This is such a cute book! Wonderful characters that you want to wrap your arms around. ▫️ I enjoyed the aspect of this story that was a widower finding her next happily ever after although it was not the main relationship. Her adult daughter wading through the conflicting emotions this brought about was very well done. ▫️ The MC’s in this book had great chemistry and it pulled me in. The charming southern town this plays out in held all of the feels that I get when I watch Hallmark small town romance movies. This definitely falls in the light and breezy side of romanceland. It could have packed more emotional punch if the author wanted to go there but I feel it would have taken away from the playful tone that enjoyed while reading. Overall I did love reading this. I look forward to the second book in this series.🤩 ▫️ Thank you @smpromance for a complimentary advance copy of this title via @netgalley. I was not prepared for this novel. It was so much darker than I was expecting. I was not anticipating a thriller with a small splash of horror thrown in. This story creeped me out. C. J. Tudor really knows how to paint a picture with her words. The visuals she created often unnerved and freaked me out. The Chalk Man did a great job keeping my attention and it kept me guessing, which I really enjoyed. I finished reading this in under 24 hours. I personally liked the second half better than the first because I found it less grisly. ✧ I’m giving this one ✩7/10✩ ✧ I knocked off stars because I found the ending to be a little anticlimactic and rushed. There was a scene at the beginning of the book that I felt was very unnecessary and went too far. Last, this isn’t a book that I would recommend to everyone. ⇣ Synopsis “In 1986, Eddie and his friends are on the verge of adolescence, spending their days biking in search of adventure. The chalk men are their secret code, stick figures they draw for one another as hidden messages. But one morning the friends find a chalk man leading them to the woods. They follow the message, only to find the dead body of a teenage girl. In 2016, Eddie is nursing a drinking problem and trying to forget his past, until one day he gets a letter containing a chalk man—the same one he and his friends saw when they found the body. Soon he learns that all his old friends received the same note. When one of them is killed, Eddie realizes that saving himself means figuring out what happened all those years ago. But digging into the past proves more dangerous than he could have known. Because in this town, everyone has secrets, no one is innocent, and some will do anything to bury the truth.”

Finished Hannibal by Thomas Harris just now and, in a nutshell, it’s a fun read, but not nearly as good as Silence of the Lambs. It starts strongly, throwing the reader into an all-action FBI drug raid and picking up with Clarice Starling several years on from the events of SotL. With a powerful and vicious main villain in Mason Verger, Hannibal Lecter on the lam in Europe and set against a backdrop of federal corruption and dark ambition it’s a gripping and at times convoluted plot. Despite his heinous acts in Florence, by the second half of the book you find yourself almost cheering Lecter on. The ending though, surreal, dark and unexpected lets the novel down and feels like it does Clarice Starling an injustice. 3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Indigo Shepard’s Cameron is back with another Staff Pick and book review! There are few greater stories than the story of life itself, especially when told by the right storyteller. ‘The Rise And Fall Of The Dinosaurs: A New History of a Lost World’ by Steve Brusatte tells the story of dinosaurs from their humble origins in the shadows of other beasts, their big evolutionary break to become the stupendous, dominating life-form for millions of years until their (relatively) quick demise (aside from birds of course.) Alongside the story of dinosaurs is the stories of the people (the characters) that hunt for their remains and study them, going from remote regions of the earth to the latest technology and modern techniques of palaeontology that are telling us more & more about dinosaurs. The book explains that evolution doesn’t seem to work in a straightforward manner and that the lesson that traits and specializations that can make a species successful in one circumstance can work against its odds of survival in another if environmental conditions change, leading the author and readers to contemplate what is in store for our species and the need to think on a species level. @brusatte_brusatte #theriseandfallofthedinosaurs #dinosaurs #paleontology #prehistoric #tyrannosaurusrex #evolution #science #sciencebook #dinosaurbook #naturalsciences #extinction #bookstagram #chaptersindigo #indigoshepard #indigoshepardcentre #indigostaffpick #bookreview

#qotd - That one series/movie that you will watch anythime? . . 🌀🌀The Secret of his Turquoise Eyes 🌀🌀 . . 🌀Burb: Rudra Gautam is a theoretical physicist whose mesmerizing turquoise eyes aren’t just his most impressive feature, but are gifted to visualize the world of electric and magnetic energies around them. He keeps his extraordinary capabilities hidden until his uniqueness is chosen to unravel an abstruse secret. The clues to which are hidden in strangest of places; the directions to which can be obtained only by solving complex codes, that only the most knowledgeable can figure out. . . 🌀Rudra hallucinations and visions leads him on a journey to Kathmandu where he meets Tenzin Rinpoche who directs Rudra on a journey which involves going to the Kailash temple and uncover the secret of the book that will lead Rudra to according to Tenzin "an extremely clandestine piece of truth." . . 🌀Rudra embarks on this journey with the help of Azna , a Glacial-Geography and Lhasa expert and his ex girlfriend. They hike through the dangers mountains of Tibet and solve the mysterious text of this book together. Their journey to find this truth is totally fascinating and Author Prachi had written it in very interesting manner. The cold chilling weather that they face of Mount Kailash and the their journey with Agha to the end of their journey will totally keep you hooked. . . 🌀This book is full of mystery and I must say very philosophical. The book is written in a very good manner and has alot of twists and turns. I mist admit I did get a bit what should I say bored with some of this philosophical things but yea that was necessary to explain Rudra's journey towards this truth. There were some scenario's that were totally not necessary like Zafagor's story of his fight with the lion. (review continued in the comments 👇👇👇)

✨ Book Review ✨ . Naturally Tan ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 . Review; Being a huge @queereye fan, I have was so excited to finally pick this up from the library. As far as memoirs go, Naturally Tan is possibly one of the honest, and genuine one's I've ever read. . From learning about Tan's childhood, to reading about how much he adores his husband, it really feels like you could be having a conversation with Tan himself. The illustrations throughout the book, coupled with the snippets of advice are such a bonus to an already brilliant book. . Having had this from the library it's definitely one I'm going to buy to reread again at a later date. I wish I could give this more than 5 stars! . Have you read Naturally Tan? What were your thoughts?

✨Book Review #8 My Dear Hamilton✨ 📜 My Dear Hamilton is the story of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton and it is epic. Thank you to @stephanie.dray and @laurakamoie for bringing this masterpiece into existence! 📜 The story covers Eliza’s life pre- to post-Hamilton, all 97 years from her childhood through to her death. This woman was the definition of resilient, accomplished, and complex. I loved getting to know Eliza (or more accurately the authors’ idea of her) and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. My favorite things: it is heavy on the history, humanizes the events we all learned about in grade school here in the US, and includes a hearty dose of personal drama. 📜 The only negatives for this one are squarely my fault. The cast of characters is vast and, outside of the main crew, it was hard for me to remember who was doing what and whose side everyone was on (I probably should have paid closer attention in those US history classes 😂). It is also VERY long - necessary for the scope of the work but it felt like it took me forever to get through. 📜 Overall it was ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Wow! Get this book!! Told in three parts, Whitehead has managed to pack in the perfect amount of detail into each chapter. The prose is concise and powerful. The story is emotionally wrought and at moments difficult to read. The sense of place is very strong. The school that this story is based on was open from early 1900 - 2011. I can’t imagine the fear these boys experienced. Not knowing if you were going to be the next chosen to be beaten or worse haunted these boys as they tried to sleep at night. The segregation of people, the pure racism, the corruption by those in power both within and outside of the school, the lack of basic needs all lended themselves to the daily experience of these kids. Today I also had the pleasure of reading Wessex Tales by Thomas Hardy. This is one of his short story collections. The stories included are: The Three Strangers: About an ongoing party in a small village that gets a visit from three men the guests have never seen before. There is also a convicted felon on the loose. There’s a nice little twist in the story. It was a joy to read. A Tradition of 1804: a short telling of a shepard about how he came to meet a peculiar historical figure on the coast of his little town. The Melancholy Hussar. Classic Hardy story about characters making terrible decisions and meeting a sad ending. This story was absolutely beautifully written and its ending memorable. The Withered Arm: My favorite of the entire collection. A creepy and interesting story containing the paranormal. Totally recommend checking this one out! Fellow-Townsmen: Hardy always makes me aware that back then, marrying was for life! There is no way out. No way until your partner ends up dying. For some of these characters, it is a long wait. Miscommunication and tragedy follows. Loved this. Interlopers at the Knap: Overly dramatic tale with a strong female lead. Wessex is filled with misery. The distracted preacher: A bit too long for my taste and not really my thing. It’s about a minister lodging in a lady’s house and finding out she smuggled liquor. He tries to get her to give up her life of crime. It’s well written, but I didn’t really like the ending. 8/10 / / / / #bookstagram #booknerd #classicliterature #thomashardy #wessextales #wordsworthclassics #bookreview #crystals #perioddrama #bookworm #booksofinstagram #bookrush

The mysterious Mr. Quin by #agathachristie 📚 It is a collection of several short stories involving Mr. Satterthwaite and Mr. Harley Quin (of course). Braucht ihr noch einen Buchtipp für einen schönen Sommerroman? Dann habe ich hier was für euch 📚🍦 . . ❤️❤️❤️

🦋 Book 23 of 2019 🦋 Why Not Me? - @mindykaling I picked this book up at a charity shop last week, having never watched The Mindy Project or The Office, but having seen Mindy Kaling on chat shows I wanted to see what she had to say on things!

It turns out this is actually her second book (I now need to get her first!), but this didn’t effect my enjoyment at all. Each chapter is essentially a short essay on something from the point of view of Mindy, whether it’s friendship, beauty, dating, careers and it’s hilarious, clever, touching and relatable. My personal favourite chapter came at the very end, where Mindy wrote about confidence. Turns out that women aren’t that great at shouting about things they are good at, or putting themselves forward for new opportunities when they arise. Moral of the essay was: Work hard. Be good a what you do. Be proud if it. Listen up ladies. This is the future! I have already lent this book out, but happy to pass it on again after that :) #bookreview #bookstagram #reading #books

It's a new book by Kevan Atteberry! There's something oddly familiar about this ghost cat--it does lots of things that remind the boy of the cat he used to have. The boy's not sure why the ghost cat never stays for more than a few moments, or why the ghost cat has visited him in the first place. He follows the ghost cat all over his house, until finally it leads him to something new and wonderful. This story strikes a perfect balance of evocative and haunting, as well as warm and hugely comforting to anyone struggling to cope with a loss. With a few carefully chosen words and simple, expressive illustrations, Ghost Cat captures both the poignancy of losing a pet and the importance of moving on without erasing or forgetting what came before. @kevanatteberry ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #reader #booksofinstagram #booklovers #whattoread #bookstagram #booknerd #bibliophile #booklove #instabook #librarybook #bookreview #bookcover #bookish #readinglist #readingtime #bookblogger #bookworm #bookstagrammer #bookaholic #ilovebooks #booklover #igreads #bookshelf #bookreviewer #happytime #fiction #childrensbooks #picturebook #booksforkids #readaloud

✏️ Book 22 of 2019 ✏️ My Sister Jodie - Jacquline Wilson So….this might have become a new obsession. ‘This’ being finding and reading Jacquline Wilson books. Perfect nostalgia, easy reading and brilliant stories every time! Similarly to ‘My Mum Tracy Beaker’, I was really surprised by some of the more serious themes in this book. I am now slowly building my collection ready to set any future children I have on the same reading journey that I have made in my life. There’s also ‘An Afternoon with Jacquline Wilson’ event happening in Lincoln later this year which I might be a little too excited about!! “Would there be no end to publishing, he wondered? Perhaps it would be a good idea if everyone just stopped writing for a couple of years, and allowed readers to catch up.”⁣ ⁣ I LOVED this book! The Talented Mr. Ripley meets crime noir - what’s not to love?! Maurice Swift was such a well-crafted villain from page 1, and the writer’s choice to tell the majority of Maurice’s story through other people does a phenomenal job of reflecting the trickle-down effect of a sociopath’s behavior...or “negative externalities,” as Maurice might say. The behind-the-scenes peeks at writing, storytelling inspiration, publishing, and editing were icing on the cake. Can’t wait to pick up The Heart’s Invisible Furies in the near future! 4.5 📚 out of 5 🖤⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #bookstagram #books #read #reading #bookreview #booksharks #instareading #fiction #bibliophile #botm #bookofthemonth

*Book Review - The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins.* ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5. . . (Full review in my stories!) . . I know many people have already read this one, and I'm late to the party for sure. Regardless, I enjoyed it. I had high expectations and while it didn't quite meet them, it was still a fast-paced, entertaining thriller. The writing style itself stood out to me the most. After finishing it, I watched the movie last night. The book is (pretty much) always better, and this was no exception. However, the movie was still good! It is important that you teach your boys to find dignity in work. As humans, work gives significance and meaning to our existence. People who work and are able to produce results usually feel a higher sense of fulfilment and worth than those who do nothing. If work has such value, I think it is important that we teach our boys how to perform tasks even from a young age. . . Start by requiring them to execute small tasks like picking up their toys, taking their dishes to the kitchen, etc. and as they grow gradually include more house chores like making their beds, washing the dishes, etc. As we know children learn by imitation so, hands-on instruction and leading by example will always be more effective than just telling them to go and carry out a task. Remember the goal is to help your child discover the satisfaction and dignity that comes from working, so rather than nagging and criticizing, it’s important to find ways to make chores interesting for your boys. #bookreview: Bringing up Boys by Dr James Dobson #parenting #bookclub

Thanks to @goodreads and @stmartinspress for the early copy giveaway! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow, though this had the MOST unlikeable characters......I was intruigued by it and compelled to finish it in less than a day! Everyone (the exception- Lucy) who the main character, Sara, interacts with at Stanhope is manipulative, highly unlikeable, and money grubbing narcissists! They do terrible things, no matter who they hurt, all in the pursuit of that lucrative bonus and highest pay. I loved the back and forth from the elevator to past scenes as we get to know Sara. Finished „Things I don’t want to know“ by Deborah Levy today at the „Caribbean Beach“ a little bit outside my hometown. I liked the writing and I was fascinated by how growing up in South Africa during apartheid felt for a child. I didn’t know that Levy was born in Johannesburg and - as the title suggests - she doesn’t really want to remember. . . The book is told in vignettes and you shouldn’t expect a comprehensive memoir. This first installment of her trilogy is more an attempt to answer the diffuse question of why she became a writer. I’m very much looking forward to the second book! . . . #deborahlevy #thingsidontwanttoknow #memoir #nonfictionbooks #nonfiction #womenwhowrite #feminism #beachreads #booksatthebeach #bookreview #bookbreak

I’m sorry but I just don’t get Hemingway. I tried so hard to read “The Garden Of Eden.” I normally don’t try so hard, but something in me was determined. I had to eventually use Spark Notes because I was lost for the longest time about where the story was headed. The concept of the story was interesting and progressive for the time it was written in, but the story is too long and drawn out. Sorry Hemingway your writing is just not my thing. 🤷🏽‍♀️

✨BOOK REVIEW ✨ . The Hidden Children by @reshmakbarshikar . . This is one of those 5-star rating deserving books that I've read so far this year. That rare kind of book which amazes you, makes you believe in things you know don't exist, The Hidden Children is a work of fantasy fiction by the author, Reshma K. Barshikar. Firstly, needless to mention, the cover is splendid! Just like the storyline of this book. It is super attractive, magical and just perfectly reveals the genre of the story. The quality of the pages is extremely fine, agree or not, all these things add up to create a marvel of a book and it sure matters a lot to every reader out there! This book has surpassed all levels of perfection for me. The Hidden Children is the story of a girl named Shayamukthy urf Shui as her friends affectionately called her. Shui was a girl whose life turned upside down for her when she shifted to India from the US. Already finding it difficult to adjust among her new bunch of fellow classmates at school, she got introduced to a new girl named Anya who in turn introduced Shui to a world full of magic. Not believing her weird dreams, Shui finds it hard to believe that her fellow classmate is familiar to a world where people live in trees, talk to the dead and speak to butterflies. On a quest to look for a lost book, Shui comes across a lot of weird challenges in this world full of magic, but with the power of magic comes a steep price to be paid. Will Shui be able to conquer her own thoughts and master her powers or will she lose herself and everyone she loves? Read the book and let yourself out on a magical journey with Shui. The book sure is one of its kind. One of the finest works of fantasy fiction I've ever read. Indeed a very long read of 400 pages, this book is sure to give you a goosebumpy ride all the way till the end. Do read it, if you like fantasy fiction, and if you don't, still read it to make yourself fall in love with this genre. . . #bookreview #bookreviewer #amazonbooks #indianbookreviewer #indianbookblogger

This gets Muna thinking... what else could happen that might help her situation? Plans...this girl’s got plans, people. Hope you enjoy as much as we did! Xoxo, BCB Chandler 💖

Day 2 of the #readingrush and I am done with my first book! I read A Court of Mist and Fury and oh boy, I loved it. I‘m starting to think that Sarah J. Maas isn‘t capable of writing anything that‘s less than 4 stars. To be fair, you get a little bit less action and more love story than in the first book. I didn‘t mind because Maas is really original with the romance parts. You don‘t have that one knight in shinning armor that is absolutly perfect. It feels more real because she also portrays the bad part of a character making them feel real. This is seriously one of those book series that actually deals with the after. You know when the characters suffers and is tortured and than somehow (after beating the bad guy) has zero emotional scars? I don‘t like it. The characters are vulnerable and I love it. But at the same time they change and develop, eventhough there is a little bit of a harsh break for certain characters between book one and two. Oh and there is a major cliffhanger at the end. A mean one. I was not emotionally ready for it! 𝟼𝟸𝟻 𝙿𝙰𝙶𝙴𝚂 | 𝟷 𝙱𝙾𝙾𝙺 𝟎𝟏 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟎𝟐 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝟎𝟑 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝟎𝟒 𝐝𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝟎𝟓 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 x A Court fo Mist and Fury 𝟎𝟔 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝟎𝟕 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐱𝐱 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 x 𝐱𝐱 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐱𝐱 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 #readingrush #thereadingrush #book #books #bookgram #bookreview #bookstagram #thereadingrush2019 #readingrush2019 #bookaddict #bookaddiction #bookworm #igreads #booklover #booklove #readingrushchallenge #read #reading #booknerd #bibliophilie #readingrushreadathon #bookish #bookcommunity #bookphotography #bookaholic #bookblogger #bookstagramfeature #tbr #booktography #instabooksgirlsbr

🌾 Book 21 of 2019 🌾 Bridge of Clay - Markus Zusak This is the second book that was set at my book club and was definitely a change from my usual choice of book. The story revolves around 5 bothers and as mentioned before, I tend to prefer reading about women 🤣 Funnily enough, I think my two favourite characters in this book were the two main female ones, but overall I loved the lively picture of the Dunbar brothers who were was messy, loud and playful but also was also poignant and tragic in places. One thing that I found really interesting, was that the time in which the book set was really difficult to place and there would be the odd jarring mention of a laptop or Harry Potter, which would place the time-period as the present day. But the whole story played out without a mention of social media or politics which are themes that are present in most other new books I have been reading lately. I guess, this gives the book a sense of being ‘timeless’. Some how, stories seem a lot more ‘poignant’ or ‘classic’ if they are set in the past and I wonder if that’s why the author purposefully didn’t date the story explicitly. Will books that are set in our modern day ever be considered ‘classics’? Weird to think about. I have already lent this book to a friend, but if you’re interested at all in borrowing it, let me know!! #bookstagram #bookreview #books #reading

I’ve been keeping to myself and reading so much these last few days. Ended up finishing three in a row, which is good since I have four more holds waiting for me. 📚📖 I really liked this book and once I could really settle down and have time to read it, I devoured it all in one go. That’s not surprising, really, given the author, but it certainly left me feeling like it was the best I’ve read by her so far. I love a book with good twists, moments that leave you guessing, and an ending that you don’t expect. This one had all of that and more. Definitely recommend if you enjoy Lisa Jewell or just good thrillers in general. And if you’ve already read this— hop into my dms so we can talk about the ending. 👀🧐🤨 • • And thank you to everyone who was so sweet about reaching out to me about what happened with Cassie. I had the loveliest day reading books in the park on my day off in the sunshine ☀️ . Maggie O’Farrell - I Am, I Am, I Am - 3.5 🌟 . For as long as I can remember I’ve been a fiction reader, it’s always what I’d choose when buying a book. But this year after a couple of excellent memoirs, I decided to give the non-fiction world a bash and so far I’ve been getting more and more into it. . This is Maggie’s memoir about ‘seventeen brushes with death’. Each chapter is named after whichever body part the near death experience affected (i.e. lungs, circulatory system) accompanied by an illustration of each body part - which I liked. . I enjoyed Maggie’s style of writing for the most part, the chapters were short and succinct and some of them very gripping. However, I felt that the ‘seventeen brushes with death’ was a slightly over dramatic term, a lot of what happens in this book happens to us all daily. But the big hitters such as her childhood illness, the struggles with childbirth and the last chapter about her daughter were undeniably horrific and frightening experiences for anyone to go through and I found myself very intrigued and gripped by those chapters! . Perhaps I’m being picky, but I felt like some of the chapters read like filler chapters. All in all a good read though! . . . #bookstagramfeature #ilovebooks #bookstagrammer #bookstagram #bookaddict #currentlyreading #amreading #shelfie #bookphotography #instabook #booknerd #readersofinstagram #bookaholic #instaread #bookgeek #bookaholic #booksofinstagram #bookish #bibliophile #goodreads #lovebooks #bookcommunity #bookrecommendation #bookreview #greatreads #bookworms #readmorebooks #alwaysreading #booksofinsta #booksbooksbooks

THIS IS HOW YOU LOSE THE TIME WAR by AMAL EL-MOHTAR and MAX GLADSTONE the f/f enemies to lovers r+j dynamic is So ideal, the setting is Super cool, and while the prose is very unwieldy in some parts, particularly toward the beginning of the book where i wasn’t as immersed, there were also some beautiful phrases and images that genuinely gave me pause. however, i think it’s important 2 use this review to not talk abt shit other reviewers alr have covered, but to talk abt smth potentially upsetting that i haven’t seen anyone else saying yet. spoiler alert: there’s a scene where an adult character kisses a child character in a romantically coded way. pls dm if you’d like to see the particular scenes, but this...rlly does happen despite no one else having said anything abt it, at least that i’ve seen. i dont know why they haven’t...in any case, i hope everyone that does decide to read this otherwise beautiful book takes care :(( -shuya #thisishowyoulosethetimewar #amalelmohtar #maxgladstone #bookreview #lgbtreads
