Things that are pretty easy: voting. Things that are less easy: taking a photo that masks the bags under my eyes. #govote #primaryday2018 #civicresponsibility #takethiscountryback

First time voting! This young woman amazes me every day...she knows the candidates, she knows their platforms, she knows if their actions match their words. Proud moment watching her act on her #civicresponsibility and to see her excitement to use her voice. #minnesotaprimaries2018 #vote #milestonemoment #election

For the first time in my life, I had to stand in a line for a midterm primary. Also a first, the majority of my votes went to women and people of color. Get out that vote! ✊🏼🗳 #55 #ward179 #gotv #wivote #votemke #civicresponsibility

#repost @beautifyearth (@get_repost) ・・・ Here’s some motivation Monday: @_.the.adventurist._ had a dream to brighten this stairway in her community. Halfway through Oathtakers by @authorldouglashogan. I can't say I agree with everything he says, but he does make a sound argument for civic responsibility. I may not have completed my my tenure in the U.S. Army (thanks to an injury and an apathetic medical board), but I did take the oath to uphold the Constitution. And I will defend it, like Hogan says, 'til death do us part.' . . . . #reading #read #readersofinstagram #books #bookstoread #booksofinstagram #oathtakers #army #constitution #civicresponsibility #shtf #preparedness #beprepared

Most times people wait until you have achieved a lot before they see you as someone to look up to, that shouldn’t stop you from being great. As young people we should stop seeking for approval from people, rather we should be moved to contribute to society in whatever way we can, our contribution to society should not be as a result of what we want from society but rather what we should do for our communities, every community is faced with a different challenge, hence a different solution. In our society today, as Nigerians we are beginning to accept mediocrity as as part of us, this is highly condemnable, and not safe for us as youths. As youths in this country it is our civic responsibility to demand accountability from those elected into office, it is our duty to condemn those that have pledged to serve us. Many of us have been marginalized in one way or the other as a result we are shut off from the benefits of government, this should not deter us from taking active participation in policy making, rather it should ignite a new wave of activism in us, United we can and I repeat will fight against the status quo. No matter where you are from, justice and equity must resonate in your heart as a Nigerian youth. We should not accept what we are facing now in Nigeria as a norm, we will be creating a major caveat for continuous manipulation. I call on every youth with a heart of Gold and a drive for genuine change to learn, unlearn and relearn, there’s no cap on knowledge, it is one of the tools we need in this war against kakistocracy that has crippled our growth and squashed many aspirations by virtue of how it’s designed to take us backward. Say no to mediocrity. Happy international youth day!! Self-governance is messy, complicated, and non-linear. But the ethos of the Wisconsin Idea is alive and well 100+ years after its birth. Let’s keep it going: Wisconsin family and friends – vote Tuesday in the primary election. Wisconsin progressives worked really hard 100 years ago for you to be able to do so. “The Wisconsin Idea” is a wonky in-depth book that chronicles the legislative accomplishments of Wisconsin’s Progressive movement in the early 1900s. Unbeknownst to most Badgers, it is the namesake of the University of Wisconsin’s century-old mission of public service and outreach. While reading it, I kept thinking how this book is as relevant today as it was 100 years ago: The Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, Dodd-Frank, and Net Neutrality are the new regulation of railroad monopolies and public utilities supplying heat, electricity, telephone, and waterworks. Campaign finance reform is the new…campaign finance reform. College affordability and educational equity is the new Wisconsin Extension. The living wage movement and health care reform are the new Workmen’s Compensation Act, labor laws, and access to affordable life insurance. If you’re a Wisconsite, a progressive, a historian, a policy wonk, or any combination of those – you’ll enjoy the read. “Do you not believe it would pay well to make a heavy investment in hope, health, happiness and justice? Do you not think you would get enormous dividends in national wealth? Isn’t there something worth while, something which will pay in the strong ideal of this New Individualism of Wisconsin?" #wisconsinidea
