Today is our Patronal Feast: The feast day of St. Kenelm! People aren’t always overly familiar with St. Kenelm, but that wasn’t always the case: In fact, sources from the 12th century tell us that his tomb was the most-visited pilgrimage site in the country. St. Kenelm was an early-medieval prince from the Midlands. Even in his lifetime he developed a reputation as a good and holy young man, devoted to Jesus amidst turbulent times and political intrigue. Another man of God (and soon to be saint!) of our Diocese, Cardinal John Henry Newman was known to make a pilgrimage, on foot, to the site of St Kenelm’s death in the Clent Hills. It’s quite something to think that these two saints are separated by the centuries, but share a bond. The relics of a saint or a site of pilgrimage can really emphasise this connection to us. And what’s more, our own faith makes us part of that same chain: ‘a bond of connections between persons’ in Newman’s words. If we have faith, somebody must have passed it on to us, and someone passed in to that person in turn: an unbroken chain from us today that stretches right back to the disciples who, with their own eyes, watched Jesus call Lazarus from the tomb, walk on water and rise from death on the first Easter morning! #iamalinkinachain #bondofconnection #heritage #communionofsaints #stkenelm #blessedjohnhenrynewman #orapronobis #prayforus

It was such a joy on Sunday to see my little nephew George receive the ‘washing of regeneration’, the adoption of divine sonship, and entrance into the Kingdom of God – His Holy Catholic Church – through his christening at the Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham’s Church of S. Anselm in Pembury. A wonderful occasion with lots of lovely people. Thanks to Fr. Ed Tomlinson (whom smashing to catch up with) for the beautiful sung Mass, and the write-up on his blog: http://www.tunbridgewells-ordinariate.com/blog/?p=5611 (link in Bio).

Good morning, please pray the sixth day of the Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Novena with us! This is a painting by @dcarterspa 🌱 Day Six (July 11) Love of Charity In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Lily of the Kanienkehaka, Servant of Jesus Christ and devoted Daughter of the Church, I seek your intercession in my present need: that we may be generous to those around us, especially those less fortunate than ourselves, as you did. St. Kateri, in your love for Jesus you embodied a commitment to true charity and love for all. In doing so you cared for those who were ill and elderly, you reached out to those who were lonely, and you prayed always for the good of others. Even when others mistreated and abused you, you extended to them the love of Jesus. Through your example and intercession, help me to grow in the virtue of charity that I may do what I can to assist others and that I will grow in love especially for those who reject me and treat me with contempt. I ask this in the name of Jesus, the Lord. Amen. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. St. Kateri, pray for us! Hands down, the best headline I've ever seen upon waking. ❤️ When I was 13, I found a daily devotional by Bishop Fulton J. Sheen at a used book sale. I had never heard of him before, but just thumbing through the book, his writing seemed kinda funny. Thus began my lifelong love and admiration for Bishop Sheen.❤️ Many years later, I read about the miracle attributed to his intercession. On the day and year our Henry was born, another baby was born to @bonnieengstrom . Her son was stillborn and showed no signs of life for 61 minutes. Bonnie and her husband Travis prayed for Bishop Sheen's intercession, and an hour after he was born, their sweet boy was revived. I've had the blessing to be an online friend of Bonnie's since 2014, and my spiritual life has been richer for it. She has a book about their story coming out this fall - go pre-order it! (61 Minutes to a Miracle available on Amazon.) ❤️ If you're not familiar with the brilliant, engaging, witty Bishop Sheen, check out some of his videos on YouTube. He was a prolific writer and a fantastic speaker, but above all he had a zeal for souls and a desire for everyone to love God so much they could never dream of committing a sin.❤️ Ven. Fulton Sheen, I look forward to the day when I can call you Blessed, then if God wills it, Saint!❤️ #venfultonsheen #fultonsheenprayforus #communionofsaints #venerablefultonsheen #fultonsheen #fultonsheenfangirl #cajuntexas19

As of course you will know, a short while ago on July 06th 1535, my hero and patron S. Thomas More was brought out of the Tower to undergo his martyrdom. As we commemorate him today (and on his feast in the Old Rite, three days from now), do watch this talk recently given by the excellent Prof. Richard Rex (to the Iona Institute in Ireland, which is equally excellent) which is a smashing takedown of the libels of Hilary Mantel and her ilk against the greatest ever Englishman (link in Bio): https://youtu.be/1GSnrrwytT8 Sancte Thoma More, ora pro nobis!

Happy Feast of the Sacred Heart! Cor Iesu Sacratissimum, in Te omnia confido! Fellow Catholics, do remember that a Plenary Indulgence is available today (under the usual conditions – Confession; total detachment from even venial sin; Holy Communion; praying a Pater and Ave for the intentions of the Holy Father) to all those who publicly recite the Act of Reparation (Iesu, dulcissime) to the Sacred Heart on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. (conc. 3) Also, bear in mind that as today is a Solemnity, it’s also... yep, you guessed it, a Bacon Friday! 😀😋

"For the things we learn in childhood are part of our soul." -St. Irenaeus of Lyon Daaaaang if that quote didn't hit me hard during prayer time today. Because it sure is true. For better or for worse, we all carry pieces of childhood that have become part of us, have left their indelible mark on our soul. As a mother I want my children to learn that they are loved unconditionally by the Lord and their parents. I want them to learn kindness and empathy, how to persevere in the face of a challenge, how to care for others. I want them to learn to value life, and to see the inherent dignity of the people around them. Tonight I'm praying that I'm able to teach my children well. I'm also praying for the children in detention centers at our border, children who have done nothing wrong, but who are learning things I would never want for my own children. Today’s Prayerart: painting a custom coffee mug for the saint that has recently come into my life. I’ve been praying for someone very near and dear to my heart lately, and this wonderful princess saint, St. Dymphna, made herself known to me. I had made an open request on if there were any saints up above that wanted to pray with me and for the person I’m praying for, and St. Dymphna kept appearing (in photos, friends mentioning, books, Instagram! 😍). My amazingly talented friend Amy @amyheyseart had my absolute favorite portrait of her - I mean- isn’t it just beautiful?! And then- low and behold- guys- I won her sticker. I’m so amazed, and feeling some heavenly hugs. I’m glad to have her helpful prayers. Do you have an awesome saint experience? Who is a saint that kept/keeps appearing in your life? More about St. Dymphna: she was born in Ireland, around the 7th century, to a pagan king father and a devout Christian mother. St. Dymphna, at the age of 14, consecrated herself to Jesus and took a vow of chastity. When her mother died shortly after, her father (who loved his wife) began to lose his mind. When his counselors told him to remarry, he insisted only if they were as beautiful as his wife had been. He searched fruitlessly, and began to fall for Dymphna since she looked so much like her mother. Dymphna fled with her confessor to what is now present day Belgium. Eventually they opened a hospice for the poor and sick. Her father over time, however, followed her coins and eventually caught up with her. After refusing to go with him, he cut off her head and martyred her confessor. Later, after her tomb was discovered, people with epilepsy or mental disorders who visited were cured. She is known as a patron saint for mental illnesses, nervous disorders and epilepsy. Her feast day is May 15th. 💕

When I see all these in row like this “The Saints” by @andymineo starts playing in my head 🙌🏽 🥁 🎶 #saints #communionofsaints #leather #leatherandmetal #saintsmedals #vintagefinishmetals #crossjewelry #instajewelry #etsyfinds

Deo gratias! Wonderful news (link in Bio)! That it even happened in the first place is a national disgrace, and it must never be allowed to happen again. To accomplish that, however, will require extensive reform in a number of areas, including mental capacity laws, and our wickedly permissive abortion laws. Given the separation of powers, it’s doubtful that Matt Hancock can do anything, certainly of real consequence. Walking in the footsteps of so many saints changes you. Catherine, Clare, Francis, Peter, Paul, Cecilia, Cyril, Methodius, Monica, Augustine, Ambrose, John Paul II, Paul VI, Leo the Great...and many others that I'm forgetting right now - they are real. They are my friends. My relationships with them over the years has strengthened me. Praying at their tombs on this trip, walking the streets they walked, praying where they prayed, and seeing what they saw (even seeing the last things they saw, like the obelisk that Peter saw as he was martyred) made them even more real. It's real. It's all real. And it's worth suffering for. It's worth the daily white martyrdom that most of us endure, as much as it's worth the other kind. And we truly aren't alone. The saints pray for us and love us, as their baby siblings in the faith. #communionofsaints

This icon of St. Jude was painted by an artist who was inspired by our son’s story. For those who don’t know, our son will be named Jude - see backstory below: . . I have personally loved the name Jude for years. However, with this pregnancy, I felt in every fiber of my being that we were having a girl. The plan was to name this child Siena, in honor of St. Catherine of Siena and in thanksgiving for her intercession in helping us avoid a miscarriage. In fact, we promised her that we would name our child after her should we have a girl. There were so many signs of her intercession that I was convinced we would be fulfilling this promise. . . You can only imagine the surprise of seeing an “XY” chromosome on the DNA screen results! Our vision for this child was flipped upside down and we were stunned with what we saw. The question of “What will we name HIM?” followed about 10 seconds after we saw the results. Immediately, I thought of Jude - simply because I liked the sound. My husband Nicholas wasn’t convinced. . . As I sat and thought about it, I remembered that St. Jude is the patron for hopeless or desperate causes... “Could we be more desperate for a miracle?” I thought. But for my husband’s sake I decided to look for other options, so I looked for the feast of the saint on our son’s due date, October 28th. To my surprise, it was St. Jude! At that moment, we both had the confirmation we needed that St. Jude was praying for our son and we wanted to honor his patronage by naming our son after him. . . The news of this painting came to us during the octave of Pentecost with the artist informing me that our little miracle had inspired this work for her. We can’t wait to see it in person and tell Jude all about it! . . #naprotechnology #recurrentmiscarriage #pregnancyafterloss #multiplemiscarriages #heyjude #catholic #catholicsaints #communionofsaints #faith #miraclebaby #stjudeprayforus

Words cannot describe how horrifying this is. ‪Every abortion is an atrocity, but to order the baby of an impaired Catholic woman to be killed within her against her wishes at 22 weeks,‬ despite her mother’s offer to adopt the child, *and* despite the advice of her social worker? This is sickening, wicked, filthy, disgusting, barbaric, *evil*. A *travesty*. God help us. Κύριε, σῶσον, ἀπολλύμεθα! Please pray an appeal is possible, and if anyone knows the family involved, please urgently e-mail @RightToLifeUK (info@righttolife.org.uk) so contact can be made and look at options for supporting them to stop this.

Let’s challenge ourselves to think about what lead us to the Catholic faith, things we love about the faith, then make an act of consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus! ❤️ • Before i was a Catholic, I was an anti-Catholic Protestant. Here are my five things that led me to the faith: 1. How amazingly the Catholic faith is so Christ-centred - that the summit of every Mass celebration is the Liturgy of the Eucharist, where Christ’s immense love is poured out to us so tangibly through the breaking of His body 2. The universality of the Church. My first Mass ever was by myself in Stockholm. I have also attended Mass in countries like Bulgaria and Spain. The order of Mass, gospel readings and responsorial psalms used are the same throughout the world. Even if you follow the Latin rite. 3. Devotion to Mother Mary. This should come as no surprise if one truly knows what it means. It is not worship (latria) which is to God alone but high respect (hyperdulia). It truly means to want to be much much closer to Jesus. In loving Mary and contemplating on her life, we are brought closer to Jesus. It is her simple obedience that made the Word incarnate in her and she suffered with so much love to see her only son die on the Cross while she sat at the foot. 4. Immensely Grace-filled. The Catholic faith places so much emphasis on grace that it has so many channels of grace to tap on. The seven sacraments, devotions, all forms of prayers, the Rosary, blessings from priests and adoring Jesus in the most blessed sacrament of the Altar ❤️ 5. The communion of Saints !!! As a Protestant previously, one of the most saintly person in the history of Protestantism I’ve known was Eric Lidell. But when I read about the stories of Saints through the ages... THEY ARE SO MINDBLOWING because they were super united with Christ - like St Francis of Assisi, St Ignatius of Loyola, St Mary of Egypt, St Teresa of Avila, St John of the Cross, St Therese of Lisieux, St Thomas Aquinas.. the list goes on and on. There’s literally a saint for everyone to look up to when struggling at any point of our lives. • Share your list with me or post with hashtag #missiounitatis #projecttruthbeautygoodness 🥰

Jesus, Shepherd and brother that He is, teaches us how to talk to our Father in heaven. The Our Father is both a prayer in itself and a format for praying. As the perfect template for prayer, it teaches us to acknowledge the bond we share as a family, watched over by one Father, to praise Him, to seek His will, to ask for our needs, all according to His will, to ask for pardon for our sins and grace to be better and avoid anything that offends Him. As a prayer, it unites us all together – sinners and saints – as one family under God and is a reminder that salvation is not an individual race. The prayers of the saints amongst us help to sustain us when we are weak and make up for our lapses. In the same vein, we must actively seek to help our other brothers and sisters when they are weak, knowing that there is tremendous strength in the communion of saints. St. Paul would have given anything, even his life to make sure that the faith in his Corinthian brethren was preserved. How much do we try to safeguard our brothers’ or sisters’ faith? – Ezinne Ndubisi #tec #theeveningchapel #dailyreflection #ourfather #prayer #communionofsaints #faith

Last Sunday we celebrated the Day of Pentecost or as we also call it “the birthday of the church” ⛪️ And as I’ve been contemplating on this, I cannot help but feel overwhelmed with this enormous sense of gratitude for the fact that God created something so unbelievably wonderful as church💛 . Of course, referring to church I’m not talking about buildings or institutions. That’s not how the Bible defines church. I’m talking about the community of people who once were strangers and now became family . And oh boy, it is one crazy mix of a family! It’s a family for young and old, rich and poor, for people of different social status, various races and nationalities. But the beautiful thing is that we are all equal here. For we know that we all are just the same before the throne of God. Just sinners in need of His mercy . It’s a place to call home for all who struggle, all who are weary and long for peace. So, I bet you are going to find some imperfect people here. Because God’s not finished with us yet. We still have our rough edges. And none of us get it right all the time. . That’s all the more why we are here. We need to be transformed by the glorious presence of our Heavenly Father. We need to be guided and comforted by His Holy Spirit. We need to be made pure from our transgressions by the sacrificial, all-covering love of the Son❤️ . And may I suggest? No matter how much you can deny it - that’s why you need the church, too🖤 #sundayreflections #lovemychurch #communionofsaints . . . . #countyourblessings #attitudeofgratitude #followingjesus #churchfamily #countrychurch #countryliving #instadiary #recentrevelation #godisgood #blessed #savedbygrace #dayofpentecost

Sometimes I hesitate to pray because I feel like I don't have the time to make it valuable. But if I have time to read just one Psalm well, St. Romuald says it's worth it.⁣ ⁣ St. Romuald, pray for us.⁣ ⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ .⁣ #catholic #catholicsaints #wordstoliveby #saintoftheday #feastday #catholicism #communionofsaints #catholicsprouts #catholicsproutsforkids #catholicsproutspodcast

St. Isaac Jogues is probably he best known of the North American Martyrs. He was famous even in his lifetime, because all of France heard about his captivity among the Iroquois and prayed for his escape. When he did safely return to France, he received special permission from the Pope to celebrate Mass, despite the fact that his hands had been damaged during torture. He returned to New France and asked to go preach to the Iroquois, whose language he had learned during captivity. They welcomed him, but one angry warrior invited him to a feast and then martyred him. St. Isaac, pray for us. #northamericanmartyrs #namartyrskidsbook #stisaacjogues

The saint is precisely he who lives in constant and intimate communion with God, who does not allow anything or anyone to separate him from God, he who victoriously links to God everything happening to him, sickness or health, poverty or wealth, infamy or fame. The saint is he who has conquered the isolation created by sin: original sin, which has severed the relationship existing between God and man, and as a consequence, the relationship existing between man and man. When Adam and Eve were exiled from the earthly paradise, they were exiled together, and yet this seeming togetherness should not blind us to their isolation from one another. // Alice von Hildebrand // The lives of the saints have always been integral to the tradition of the Church because they demonstrate for us how someone can strive for holiness in every vocation, historical age, economic or social circumstance, and despite any seeming obstacle, from a sinful past to religious persecution to martyrdom. What the saints all have in common is their capacity for the other: they lifted their heads, looked out at the world, and saw moments to bring Jesus to the world in a way that only they could. But the saints are clear: it's not an easy road to travel. To strive for sanctity and to try to help others do the same is like putting a hundred sharp, jagged rocks in a bag and agitating the bag until all the rocks are smooth. It's a painful process, but it's necessary. And we aren't without help. The communion of saints is the Church (CCC 946), but the Church doesn't only exist here on earth. Pray for each other through the intercession of the saints in heaven and offer prayers for the suffering souls in purgatory. "No one lives alone. No one sins alone. No one is saved alone" (Spe Salvi, no. 48). // #catholic #christian #benedictxvi #pope #flanneryoconnor #vonhildebrand #hildebrandproject #scripture #hope #saints #beasaint #jesus #god #holyspirit #church #communionofsaints #blessedisshe #bissisterhood
