Happy Feast of St. Paul, the first Hermit. He practiced radical love by abstaining from creature comforts. “True love grows by sacrifice and the more thoroughly a soul rejects natural satisfaction, the stronger and more detached its tenderness becomes” (St. Therese, Story of a Soul.) You are called to all-encompassing, radical love. How can you start practicing that type of love today? . . . #catholicinrecovery #catholic #hopemikaelson #forgiveness #surrender #healingwaters #baptism #grace #joy #holy #recovery #recoveryisreal #recoverystory #recoveryislife #strength #perseverance #resilience #transform #free #freedom #dosomethingfornothing #communionofsaints

The word “little” is my word for 2019. In no small way, it was suggested to me by St. Therese on New Years Eve. While in adoration at this quiet monastery, who she is the Patroness of, the word came to me and I knew it had a place in my heart for this upcoming year. There’s plenty that is unclear in my future and even more that I want to control. So now more than ever, I must remain little. I must forget myself in all things and just choose love — love like St. Therese loved. ⁣As well as be loved like she allowed herself to be loved. Always was she a child at heart, letting the Father console and guide her. In so many ways, she is an exquisite example and I encourage you all to read her story. She never disappoints. ⁣ ⁣ “Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.”⁣ ⁣ - St. Therese of Lisieux #catholic #sttherese #littleway #jesuschrist #christianity #humility #love #sacrifice #communionofsaints #romancatholic #little

One of the many things I love about the saints is how different they all were! I mean, just imagine what heaven must be like with the great intellects like St Thomas Aquinas, next to the peasant children like Sts Francisco and Jacinta Marto. Then you have the feisty St Teresas who spoke their minds even when it was controversial, and the wonderfully gentle and loving St Therese of Liseux. ⠀ .⠀ Even the great religious orders show how different the saints are - the Benedictines, the Dominicans, the Jesuits, the Carmelites - they're all so incredibly different, championed by different saints, with varied saints again who found holiness in that order. I can only imagine that heaven is particularly interesting place thanks to these personalities alone! ⠀ .⠀ Thank you Lord for so many different holy men and women who show us that holiness isn't restricted to certain personality types!⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #catholicsaints #holiness #inspirationalpeople #inspirationllives #communionofsaints #faith #instafaith #christianlife #christianliving #catholiclife #catholicblogger #catholicism #instacatholic #catholicsofinstagram #jesuits #dominicans #benedictines #carmelites #stignatiusofloyola #stdominic #stbenedict #stteresaofavila #stjohnofthecross #stthereseofliseux #motherteresa #littleflower #catholicchurch #romancatholic #catholicandproud #instagram

“When we enter or exit a Catholic church, most of us make it a habit to dip our fingers into the holy water and make the sign of the Cross. The simple plunge into these waters is a way to bind us once again with the grace of the Sacrament of Baptism, through which we recognize our powerlessness and the unmanageability of our lives, while giving thanks for the redeeming power of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I found this for my husband’s stocking. It’s St. Michael. I had no idea all these years (we’ve been together 12 years) but he and I have the same patron saint. My last name is even Michaels (my father changed it from the Polish Michalski). . . My husband told me when he was single, he used to always burn St. Michael candles. And then he married me. 😍 St. Michael is not only a saint but he is also an archangel. He is the one who led the army of angels and cast Lucifer and the fallen angels into hell. He is Satan’s chief opponent, and the defender of the Church. . . In Catholicism, we have something called Intersession of the Saints. I was raised Catholic, but we rarely went to church and I didn’t go to Catholic school, so I had never heard of this until a few months ago. I was with my friend Kimberly at dinner in Washington DC. . . Ever since Ollie was born, I’ve had painful heartburn. He was a breech baby. Sometimes so bad I feel like I can’t breathe. It usually lasts at least 15-20 minutes... sometimes it can last a few hours. . . We were at dinner and the heartburn started… I couldn’t breathe; I felt like I was choking; my eyes were welling up with tears. . . Kimberly said, “I’ll pray for you.” Within 5-10 seconds, the pain completely subsided. I was completely blown away! . . . “What did you do?” I asked her. “I asked St. Raphael to pray for you. He is the patron saint of healing.” . . Some people think Catholics pray to false gods and that this breaks the second commandment... but that's not true.  We are not praying to the saints. We are asking the saints to pray for us. As my friend Kimberly explained it to me, “We ask our friends to pray for us; why not ask the saints in Heaven?” . . For where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20) . . And the smoke of the incense of the prayers of the saints ascended up before God from the hand of the angel. (Revelation 8:4) . . Whatever you are fighting today, whatever battles you are facing, I ask St. Michael to pray for you.

December 20 - Nineteenth Day of Advent – “The Web of Life” A few years ago I read a story in our local newspaper about how beavers are moving back into our area – felling trees, making dams and diverting streams – affecting the environment, and shifting the local ecosystem, with some animal and plant populations increasing and others decreasing, or maybe even disappearing. Scientists know that the natural world is not a collection of isolated organisms, but a closely connected web of creatures, each influencing, and being influenced by, everything around it. Even our bodies are colonies of cells and bacteria collaborating, exchanging the signals and materials that sustain our life. We are not exempt; in our daily life we are constantly interacting with others, the web of those interactions influencing the social matrix in which we live, or good or ill. Each of us will at some point change someone’s life, but never when we think it will, by the grand gesture – the walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth in the seventh game of the World Series, or the rousing speech at the United Nations – but by a smile at someone walking by, or a sympathetic word at the coffee machine, or just listening quietly to a friend, but it will be just what that person needs at that moment. They will go away, their life changed, and we will never know it. But just as a tap on a spider web radiates all through it, that change will have a ripple effect through the world. In religious terms, we all – you, I, Joseph, Mary, the Magi, the bit players in the Nativity drama – belong to the Communion of Saints, a moral ecosystem whose health depends critically on our growing into the persons God created us to be. #advent #christianlife #catholiclife #compassion #spirituality #spirituallife #communionofsaints #adventreflections #meditations

I share here some various quotes about the Christian life and suffering. When I am hurting, in depression, or having to do something I don’t like, I always must remind myself of the suffering that Jesus, Mary, the apostles, and many saints throughout the ages experienced. Especially that suffering of Jesus was so immense that nothing I have ever experienced can compare. He was tortured, ridiculed, and absolutely despised by the world. If we want to reach salvation, we must also live as He called us, and unfortunately living a Christian life means experiencing suffering. But the suffering we experience here is nothing compared to the joy we will find in heaven! . ““If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you, ‘No slave is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin; but as it is they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me also hates my Father. If I had not done works among them that no one else ever did, they would not have sin; but as it is, they have seen and hated both me and my Father. But in order that the word written in their law might be fulfilled, ‘They hated me without cause.’” ‭‭John‬ ‭15:18-25‬ ‭NABRE‬‬ . . . . . . . #quotes #saintquotes #communionofsaints #saints #bible #bibleverses #bibleverse #catholic #christian #christianity #catholicism #oneholycatholicapostolic #apostolic #faith #jesuschrist #passionofchrist #bissisterhood #femcatholic #thecatholicwoman #suffering #sorrows #sorrow #pinterest

Happy feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe! When @kbenitez21 told me the story of her, St. Juan Diego, and the tilma in 2016, I was intrigued. As a Protestant, I had never heard of the many apparitions of Mary to her children on earth. She truly is the mother of all Christians, and she wants to bring us all to her son. Of course, I was skeptical, but if you research the tilma, you will see how scientifically sound it is. Look at the post in my story from @little.linen . Or research it for yourself. I fully credit Mary with bringing me into the fullness of the faith in the Holy Catholic Church, and I’m so excited to consecrate myself to Jesus through her on today, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas. . “Hear me and understand well, my little son, that nothing should frighten or grieve you. Let not your heart be disturbed. Do not fear that sickness, nor any other sickness or anguish. Am I not here, who is your Mother? Are you not under my protection? Am I not your health? Are you not happily within my fold? What else do you wish? Do not grieve nor be disturbed by anything.” Our Lady’s words to St. Juan Diego December 12, 1531. . . . . . #communionofsaints #bissisterhood #catholicism #catholicblogger #catholicconvert #ourladyofguadalupe #nuestraseñoradeguadalupe #mary #mothermary #mamamary #marymotherofgod #blessedvirginmary #feastday #saints #femcatholic #thecatholicwoman #vivaguadalupe #ourladyoftheamericas #prayforus #orapronobis #guadalupe #guadalupana #madredelaiglesia #motherofthechurch #motherofchrist #instacatholic #lavirgendeguadalupe #lavirgen #virgencita

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"The Virgin Mary, a faithful Catholic, placed herself under obedience to the local bishop. She would not build the shrine herself, or work directly with the nearby faithful. He recounted his conversations with Mary and then proudly unfurled his poncho. The fresh and dewy roses fell gracefully to the floor. Juan was content. But there was a gift within the gift. There was more than gorgeous roses. Everyone in the room fell to their knees in wonder. Juan was the last to see it. A gentle image of the Virgin Mary was impressed on Juan’s poncho." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us! #ourladyofguadalupe #guadalupe #mexicocity #feastofourladyofguadalupe #catholicsaint #catholic #saint #catholicism #catholicchurch #patronsaint #saintjuandiego #juandiego #tilma #blessedvirginmary #dailysaint #everydaysaints #everydaysaint #prayforus #communionofsaints #saintaday

He lived in the open weather and stood each day until he collapsed. Many sat at the foot of his pillar to learn from his preaching and spiritual counsels. Saint Daniel only came down once to convince Emperor Baliscus to abandon the Monophysite heresy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Saint Daniel the Stylite, pray for us! #catholicsaint #catholic #saint #saintdanielthestylite #stylite #pillar #catholicism #catholicchurch #catholics #saintdaniel #emperormonophysite #heresy #dailysaint #saintaday #everydaysaints #everydaysaint #patronsaint #communionofsaints #prayforus

“Now we must help each other get to Heaven.” •Blessed Charles of Austria Blessed Charles of Austria said this to his wife after they were married. Deciding to help each other get to Heaven is the best thing Kevin and I have ever done as a couple. When we started dating, I wasn’t Catholic, and we both were living the way of the world. It was not easy to change our relationship, but we knew it was necessary for our future together. We’ve both had to grow in chastity. And through that, we have also grown so much in love. Living a more Catholic and therefore Christian relationship has allowed us to get to know each other in a more spiritual and personal way. If chastity is something you struggle with, just know you are not alone, and it is possible to grow in chastity, even in a world where chastity isn’t always held in high regard. I recommend adding more prayer into your own life, and if you are in a relationship, pray with your partner. Resist temptation, my friends. It may be difficult, but being with Christ is well worth the struggle. . . . . . #bissisterhood #catholicism #catholicblogger #chastity #femcatholic #thecatholicwoman #catholic #catholicchurch #romancatholic #christian #christ #jesuschrist #letsbesaints #beasaint #communionofsaints #blessedcharlesofaustria

The “Saint Who?” in the Magnificat today was St. Gorgonia and she’s pretty cool. Her parents were Sts. Gregory and Nonna, and her brothers are St. Caesarius and St. Gregory of Nazianzen, Doctor of the Church. She was a wife and a mother of 5 children. Gregory said she was an excellent model for all Christian women, no matter their vocation. She did many charitable acts. When she was stricken ill, she remembered the bleeding woman who touched Jesus’ clothing and was healed (Mark 5:25-34). She rose from her bed and went to the church. She knelt before the altar, received the eucharist, and was cured. At her deathbed, family gathered around and Gregory proclaimed, “Her native land was Jerusalem above.” . . . . . . . #catholicsaints #orthodoxsaints #saints #christian #catholic #catholiclife #vocations #communionofsaints #bissisterhood #catholicblogger #catholicism #catholicchurch #romancatholic #catholicwoman #femcatholic #jesuschrist

O good St. Nicholas, you who are the joy of the children, put in my heart the spirit of childhood, which the gospel speaks, and teach me to seed happiness around me. You, whose feast prepares us for Christmas, open my faith to the mystery of God made man. You good bishop and shepherd, help me to find my place in the Church and inspire the Church to be faithful to the Gospel. O good Saint Nicholas, patron of children, sailors and the helpless, watch over those who pray to Jesus, your Lord and theirs, as well as over those who humble themselves before you. Bring us all in reverence to the Holy Child of Bethlehem, when true joy and peace are found. In the mass readings today, we see in the book of Isaiah that Jesus is prophesied to “destroy death forever” (Isaiah 25:8 NABRE). And as we read in many of the gospels, Jesus came and fulfilled all that was written of Him. (Luke 24:44) So we must know that He has truly destroyed death for those who believe in Him. Believe and Christ, and you will have eternal life. This is why, as Catholics, we believe that the saints are still alive in heaven. If they are still alive, are they not part of the body of Christ that we have joined on earth through baptism? And if so, then we should be able ask them to pray for us just as we would ask a fellow church member. This is why we “pray” to Mary and the other saints in heaven. This doesn’t have to include officially canonized saints. If you know someone who followed Jesus closely all their life, they may also be a saint in heaven! Just as we ask our friends and family on Earth to pray for us, our family in heaven can also pray for us. This is the communion of saints mentioned in the apostles creed. All you holy saints of heaven, pray for us, that we might follow Christ in life and one day join you in heaven! . . . . . #christian #bibleverse #bible #biblical #biblicaltruth #jesuschrist #jesus #bibleverseoftheday #bvotd #catholic #catholicchurch #romancatholic #massreadings #dailymassreadings #lectionary #isaiah #catholicblogger #catholicwoman #bissisterhood #femcatholic #communionofsaints #saints

BLESSED NIELS STENSEN From an early age, Niels was very intelligent and he specialized his study in medicine particularly anatomy. Among his achievements was the discovery of the circulation of blood in the body. Niels brought logic to his pursuit of truth in religion and in science. His attendance at the Corpus Christi procession in 1666 moved him to consider Catholicism. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He became a Catholic and continued to work as a scientist but felt himself drawn to the priesthood. In 1675 he was ordained a priest and later in life a bishop. Niels Stenson was made vicar Apostolic for the northern missions and titualar bishop of Titiopolis. He was in a constant personal struggle to have faith and his scientific discoveries work and exist together. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Blessed Niels Stensen, pray for us! #catholicsaint #godsscientist #communionofsaints #saintaday #dailysaint #catholic #saint #blessed #blessednielsstensen #corpuschristi #everydaysaints #everydaysaint #catholicism #catholicchurch #patronsaint #nielsstensen #lutheranism #titiopolis

SAINT JOHN DAMASCENE John of Damascene was a defender of the veneration of sacred images and a time when many condemned it. He became a Doctor of the Church for this defense. Saint John Damascene is known primarily through his writings, which later were a source of inspiration for Saint Thomas Aquinas. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"When we gaze in wonder at the mellow glow of stained glass, marvel at the smooth serenity of the face of Mary in Michelangelo’s Pietà, or wonder at the explosion of the baroque in an Italian church, we should whisper thanks to today’s saint for saving the day just when it needed to be saved." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Saint John Damascene, pray for us! #catholicsaint #communionofsaints #prayforus #catholic #saint #catholicchurch #catholicism #saintjohndamascene #johndamascene #icons #pieta #patronsaint #veneration #doctorofthechurch #saintaday #dailysaint #everydaysaint #everydaysaints #saintthomasaquinas

SAINT FRANCIS XAVIER The Apostle of India was born at the castle of Xavier and of noble descent. Four years into his studies of philosophy he met Saint Ignatius Loyola who influenced him so much that Francis became one of the first disciples of the Saint. Francis Xavier was ordained a priest in 1537 and three years later he sailed from Portugal to India, never to return. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He completely reformed the city of Goa, and then his apostolic labors extended to other cities where he converted large numbers to Christianity. He carried the light of Faith to Japan, of which he became the first missionary. Francis Xavier had next set his sights on China to convert, but God was satisfied with his will, and the Saint died of a fever in 1552 at the age of 46. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Saint Francis Xavier, pray for us! #catholicsaint #communionofsaints #catholic #saint #saintfrancisxavier #francisxavier #prayforus #catholicism #catholicchurch #onetruechurch #dailysaint #saintaday #everydaysaints #everydaysaint #goa #missionary #patronsaint #christianity #lightoffaith #jesuit #saintignatiusofloyola

Today’s sky. The sort of sky that is impossible to photograph, but I had to go outside and try to capture the impossible. I just wandered a little, and thanked God for all of the beautiful things He has let me see in this life, and those greater wonders yet to come when I journey on to eternity. The fog closed in around me as I walked, and I reflected on the way God loves each of us so personally. In a very real way tonight, it was me and Him completely alone, the rest of the world fading to white. He loves me that much - enough to die so I may rise with Him. Enough to delight my heart, and enough to let me hurt when I need to grow. And yet, He can see through the fog. His vision is complete. He can see all of us, even when we can’t see each other in how His plan will come together. Today, I am deeply reminded that we cannot have a personal relationship with Christ without a familial relationship with His people. It’s “Our Father”, not “My Father”. Thank you, Lord, for reminding me I have the best family I could ever hope for - especially the Saints in Heaven, but also so many people here on this Ark with me. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #mementomori #beatificvision #heaven #catholic #communionofsaints #reflection #communitas #traditionalcatholic #landscape #ontario

SAINT BIBIANA In the year 363, Apronianus was the governor or Rome who persecuted and killed Christians including Saint Bibiana's parents. Bibiana and her sister Demetria were stripped of their possessions and left to suffer poverty, but they stayed in their house, spending their time fasting and praying. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Apronianus saw that the hunger and want had no effect of the sisters, so he summoned them and killed Demetria but reserved Bibiana for greater sufferings. She was placed in the hands of a wicked woman who tried to seduce her, attack her, and persuade her against Christianity. Saint Bibiana held firm to her Faith and was eventually brought back to Apronianus who killed her. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Saint Bibiana, pray for us! #communionofsaints #saintaday #dailysaint #catholicsaint #catholic #saint #catholicism #catholicchurch #onetruechurch #saintbibiana #saintdemetria #bibiana #demetria #prayforus #martyr #martyrs #patronsaint #patronsaintofhangovers #apronianus #christianity
