The ball adds weight and increases tension. You don’t need it but it’s pretty and yellow so I wanted to. _ Try doing 5 reps with 5 second hold and increase the time holding onto the bar. It also gives the person that slight burning feeling in the abs without having to get it from doing 100 crunches on the stability. WIN WIN. _ 🖕🏻I had a cooler post but stupid IG takes a thousand years to load multiple videos. Special thanks to @ericridings for filming. Technique Tuesday: The SPLIT Jerk with @kelly.sabolsky⠀ ⠀ Here is your 1, 2 👊:⠀ ⠀ 1⃣Force Transfer and Core Stability⠀ ⠀ In the split jerk, kelly produces force with her lower body and transfers that force as she drives the barbell overhead. ⠀ ⠀ In order to efficiently transfer force from her legs and hips to overhead, Kelly must stabilize her core. ⠀ ⠀ Core is the 🔑 between your lower and upper body!⠀ ⠀ Stability at the core helps ensure there is minimal force dissipated (or lost) as it transfers from her legs and hips to over her head. ⠀ ⠀ Ever swing a bat, shoot a 🏀, or serve a 🏐? Your core is not the same thing as your abs. I’m not saying one is better to train than the other just that it depends on your goals. ✅ This is an old video so it’s nice to see the progress up to now, it’s also crazy to see how far I still need to go (hint: really far 😜) ✅ When people say ‘your abs’ in most cases they are referring to to aesthetically pleasing 6 pack and obliques. ✅ When discussing core - 1️⃣ your abs are part of it but it also includes: 2️⃣ Your pelvic floor 3️⃣ Diaphragm 4️⃣ Lower back muscles (lumbar multifidi and QL) 5️⃣ Transverse Abdominus ✅ Your core is necessary for everything you want to do in your life: lift your kids, recover from injury, give birth, weight train safely, longevity of life, etc. ✅ Please know the difference with what you’re training and getting.
