Split Stance Hex Bar Deadlift For functional work on the strength portion of your sprint starts. The rear leg should be mostly for balance, with most of the load being taken by the front leg. Keep posterior chain engaged throughout the movement. This can be followed in complex with single leg plyos or jumps of some sort to work the power end. We can even complex this movement pre sprint start. One of our favorite complexes or sequences is this variation of deadlift, followed by single leg box jumps, followed by single leg bounds. No more than 3 to 5 reps of each of those movements, followed by a couple sprint starts focusing on the first 3 steps or up to the first 15 yards at most. #repost @tcfitmn with @get_repost ・・・ ➡️ What are you looking at? ⤵️ — Head/Neck position during the plank is probably the one overlooked spot when you perform the plank. — That’s okay, I’ve got you covered. — As I’ve reviewed before, the plank has some good carryover to A LOT of other exercises. — It’s safe to say that if it’s showing up in the plank it’s probably showing up in other places as well. Tweet that! 🤣 — It’s really easy to fall into a bad neck position, usually due to fatigue or sometimes carelessness. Will this small tweak make the plank 10x more effective? Probably not. But it’s a place we can set a precedent for proper head and neck position in other exercises. — Plus, who in the world likes a cranky neck? No one. We don’t need to add more stress to this area. — Next time you perform the plank, think about maintaining a double chin. That’s it.

I haven't done total body core in awhile. I forgot how challenging it was. Epsom salt here I come!

#gymquickies Had a blast today getting my butt kicked with @fitbylemon ! In addition to a lot of lower body heavy lifting, these were some of my favorite anti-extension and anti-rotation exercises (except the last one which was just brutal lol). . . Anti-rotation exercises are good for strengthening the muscles that stabilize the spine. The first and third exercises shown here are amazing for that but are also a little more advanced, so take them slow the first time you try them. . . The first exercise is also a great example of anti extension which means that the core is braced so that the lower back stays on the ground versus extending upwards (back coming off the ground) and putting more force on the lower back (think anti- anterior pelvic tilt). . . Throw some of these into your next routine to prepare your spine and core for heavier lifts ! . . Thanks Carson!! C o r e 🤩👌🏼 We hear the word ‘core’ used so often in fitness but what does it actually mean?! 🤔 The #core includes all the muscles around your midsection, not just your abdominals! ✔️ Weak core muscles can result in poor posture, lower back pain & make us prone to injuries 😬 #pregnancy massively affects our core as our bodies physically adapt for our babies 🤰🏻 Re-building our core #postpartum brings further challenges as we nurse, lift & carry our babies (and everything else but the kitchen sink!)🤱🏻🤣 Let alone finding the time to focus on ourselves! 🙈😂 #pilates has played a big role in my postnatal fitness journey, helping me to gradually restore my core ❤️ Today I was able to perform a full plank on the shoulder pads of my @align_pilates_uk reformer with good core stability! 😄 This has taken a few months of hard work! 🙌🏼 I still have a long way to go until I have fully re-strengthened my core but we should always strive for #progressnotperfection 👌🏼 After all, it takes almost 10 months for our amazing bodies to grow our babies! 😍 #5monthspostpartum N.B. For postpartum ladies - Please do not attempt to perform a plank if you still have significant abdominal separation & a weak core, it could cause more harm than good! 👍🏼

An advanced core exercise to top off this Saturday evening😎 (Note: filmed pre-pregnancy)👈 . . . This move will work basically every part of the trunk, from the lats down to the glutes — IF performed correctly. It requires a great deal of strength, mobility and technique in order to control the movement and to avoid compression of the spine and neck. It is therefore imperative that a strong and stable foundation first be built before attempting‼️ . . . 🔹Begin supine with knees tucked to chest, hands gripping a frame, wall bar or, in this case, a heavy KB. Elbows should be bent to ca 90 degrees in order to help provide leverage. 🔹Create tension through the upper body by activating lats/isometrically pulling arms down against resistance of frame. 🔹Engage abdominals and posteriorly tilt pelvis; at the same time, roll hips up off of floor, stopping at mid-back — do not roll up onto neck! Actively press up through heels, legs extending back against resistance of glutes. 🔹Roll halfway down, pulling one knee in toward chest and continuing to extend other up, out and back against glutes. Keep tension in arms/lats and abdominals engaged. Avoid collapsing down into spine — maintain lift up and away, even as you roll down. 🔹Drive both heels simultaneously back up toward ceiling, pressing with glutes and pulling with abdominals and lats.
