So many amazing Native led organizations you could donate to today to make a gesture toward paying reparations. Or give directly to Native people. #thanksgiving #nothanks #nojusticenopeace #nativedayofmourning #colonialism #decolonize

This is one of the places I call home. It’s on Duwamish land. I used Native Land Finder to learn that, because our land history is not common knowledge. Who’s land do you live on? 🍁 I’m not there right now; I’m staying in NYC, which was Lenape land, for the holiday season this year. I’m thinking a lot about the history of the land we call “ours”, the land and man-made borders that some people want to protect so fiercely. I’m thinking about how horrible it is to be made to feel that you don’t belong in your own home, on your own land. This Thanksgiving, I am struck by how wrong it feels to be thankful for something stolen, something that actively causes harm by having it. Privilege. Whiteness. I’ve been learning about some incredible native people & orgs who are working to empower and preserve their land, communities, and that which is sacred to them. I encourage you to follow as well - I am their student. I chose to donate to @nativewomenswilderness - they are supporting three amazing organizations this season that empower Native women, children, and elders 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 The accounts below will help you figure out where to directly contribute your resources. 🍂 🍂🍁🍂 @nativewomenswilderness @lilnativeboy @denewanderer @nativeapprops @ndn.o @shariceforcongress @deb4congressnm @indigenouswomenhike @chiefladybird

Don't believe the hype! Our Central American gente have all the right to migrate into the colonially constructed land known as MEXICO. We must always remember that colonial governments were established by a white supremacist ideology that multiplied itself into nations as a way to further exploit and validate a euro-settler government. All of the nations within our continent were created to support and reinforce Creole/European power. Our hearts and minds go out to our "Central American" sisters and brothers who are escaping settler violent regimes of power! We want to shout out to our "Mexican" gente who are aiding our migrating sisters and brothers! We are one people divided by false borders! Don't let this settler nationalism blind you from fully embracing our family continental wide! Please dm us links where we can show/send support! #nicantlacawomenwarriors #nicantlakera #decolonize #decolonizeacademia #nicantlakera #nicantlacascholars #nicantlacawomenwarriors #nicantlaca #anahuac #cemanahuac #mexican #centralamerican #southamerican #nativeamerican #decolonize #genocide #notlatino #nothispanic #notlatinx #notraza #latino #hispanic #mestizo #mestizaje #laraza #raza #mexica #aztec #tawantinsuyu #culturalgenocide #nicantlacauniversity

Feeling this too. 💔🦃 How to balance the desire to celebrate the thanksgiving holiday in this country and also to make amends for its unjust history? How to come together without condemnation yet with truth and reconciliation? ❤️ #repost @theconsciouskid ・・・ "This holiday can be sugar-coated as much as people like to justify colonial violence, but note that it is a painful, annual reminder of our genocide and white supremacy — two of the very foundations of this country, alongside slavery. This day is viewed as the National Day of Mourning by several Native communities, which was started as a protest in 1970 — organized by the United American Indians of New England (UAINE) to honor our ancestors and highlight the struggles they endured then to modern times, as well as the acknowledgement of the racism and oppression experienced today. To me, Thanksgiving is a reminder of our resistance as Indigenous People navigating this settler society that continuously tries to erase and destroy us, yet we are still here. I will spend it honoring my ancestors and their fight for survival." -Full @papermagazine article by Allen Salway is posted to our FB page or can be accessed via the link in @lilnativeboy's profile. It is 100% the responsibility of white cis queers/ gays to be intersectional. Every right we have in this country was the work of trans women & gnc people of color and we live out these privleges on stolen land. Nothing Indigenous people can do that would ever compare to the measurements of what has been done to the brown population. The damages continue to be seen to this day. Self hate is rampant, Natives are still dying from lack of proper medical care and preventable diseases, Indigenous women are still going missing and being sexually assaulted. There's reservations comparable to third world countries. Our kids are commiting suicide (I read a news story where a 7 year old sioux girl hanged herself because she was tired of living in poverty). There's a lack of initiative to make Indigenous societies all around the world better. They. Do. Not. Want. Us. Or. Care. The only thing they ever cared about was raping our lands. *******************************************************#decolonize #native #amerikkka #brownpride #blackfoot #mexico #mexika #resistance #notlatino #aztec #n8v #austronesia #sioux #indigenouspride #taino #aboriginal #photography #naturephotography #nativeamerican #indigenous #indigenous #apache #mexicano #firstnations #autochthonous #polynesian #nodapl  #maori #america #aboriginee

I can’t say it enough, Thanksgiving is terrible. It’s just as terrible if not more than Colombus Day. It’s a horrendous lie they sold to us since childhood in the name of capitalism guised by fake gratitude. And it’s extremely offensive and oppressive to most Native Americans today who are STILL fighting for their sovereignty and basic human rights. 🍁 Here’s some real history for you: In 1637 near present day Groton, Connecticut, over 700 men, women and children of the Pequot Tribe were brutally murdered by English and Dutch mercenaries upon waking. The next day the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony declared "A Day Of Thanksgiving" because they had successfully slain or help captive all native peoples. 🍁 Then in 1863, Abraham Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday after a Union Army victory in Gettysburg. The story we know of this holiday is mostly glorified fiction and was created to boost a national sense of unity and uphold our “melting pot” image. 🍁 There was at one point a feast between The Wampanoag tribe and New England puritans, but only because these colonists had plans of over taking all of their land. Treaties were broken and the natives murdered or enslaved. After the genocidal King Phillips War a generation later, all New England natives were exterminated or sold as slaves to the Carolinas. This early slave trade was so “successful” that Puritan ship owners from Boston raided the Ivory Coast in Africa for black slaves to sell to the southern colonies, this paved the way for the trans Atlantic slave trade. 🍁 So YEAH- fuck thanksgiving. We need to abolish it in the name of indigenous rights and reparations. It is totally possible to still have a day of community, feasting and gratitude, but it should not be on a date compounded with centuries of lies, trauma, and grief. (Or immediately followed by a day of grotesque consumerism either.) 🍁 I hope we can start telling our kids and family what really happened on this soil. And I hope that this day becomes about honoring indigenous peoples and offering financial support to the Natives who still live here. ✊🏽❤️🍁 Link in my bio for more on this. 📷 @decolonize

Artwork by San Francisco, California-based artist Tito Gavina. I dig his modern interpretation of pre-colonial Philippine images through paintings, flash art and tattoo work. Check him out via @titogavina. #traditionalmeetsmodern #precolonialphilippines-inspired. 👉🏽 Learn about the #headhunters of Northern Luzon, Philippines + national hero #lapulapu, the ruler of Mactan in the Visayas, known as the first native to resist the imperial Spanish colonization. #decolonize, #indigenize and #reclaim 🔥⚡️✨

Decolonizing ThanksGiving ✌ . @Regran_ed from @for.the.wild . Thanksgiving is a holiday that celebrates the historic slaughter of Indigenous peoples. The tale told of the pilgrims sharing a meal with the “Indians” is one that is rife with falsehoods, intentional mistruths, and bold-faced lies that cast the charm of a heartwarming, albeit completely bullshit, history. . . This harmful narrative has been written into the fabric of #american society and promotes a whitewashed version of historical events. #thanksgiving gives nod to colonizer and capitalism alike after riding in on the back of a wave of deeply problematic #holidays in so-called America. Halloween, Columbus Day, and Thanksgiving all attest to the U.S.’s commitment to continued erasure of the genocide that took place across the nation. We encourage everyone to engage in critical conversations about #indigenouspeoples, the land, and the truth of what’s really being celebrated tomorrow. #nativeamericanheritagemonth #thanksgiving #decolonize #respect #realhistory #indigenous #history #givingthanks #americanhistory #holidays

Happy Thanksg-.... Fuck you guys. #decolonize

Fuck your “Thanksgiving”. When you celebrate this “holiday” you’re celebrating genocide, colonialism, and terrorism. Fuck Columbus, fuck colonialism and fuck the American government. How are you gonna talk about “illegal immigration” when everyone here who’s not Native American is an immigrant/immigrant descendant? This land was stolen, plain and simple. NO BAN ON STOLEN LAND!
