first thing I unpacked/organized in my new apartment? kitchen stuff 👩🏼‍🍳⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I am SO happy to have my own kitchen again.. for the past year I’ve tried to spend the least amount of time in the kitchen and make the least amount of dishes as I could. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ now I can go buck wild 🤠⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ don’t let this small haul fool you.. I have gotten groceries from costco and kroger this week too, and moved my freezer and pantry stuff over to my apartment. 💉 OK, so this one has been a long time coming… This is me after my first week on Remote Year. We were scootering, I was driving with someone on the back 🛵 (don’t do this… sorry @ambersandboxx), and I (we) crashed. Splat into a curb.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ 🤕 I cut my leg pretty bad, bruised some ribs, and missed out on the remainder of what was a pretty fun scooter adventure (and @ltesby was a saint for staying with me at the hospital and missing said trip as well 💕).⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ But you know what? I survived 💪🏻. And here’s what I learned:⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ✨ Getting hurt or sick in a foreign country is scary, but you’ll get through it. #remoteyear gives us access to an international telehealth service that will locate recommended health providers and even communicate on your behalf. If you’re travelling, consider something like this because it’s great (of course I didn’t utilize it until I had to go BACK to the doctor, see next point).⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ✨ Don’t put your health second. I waited a little too long to head back to the doctor after it was clear I needed some follow up on my cut - I didn’t have time, I needed to work. Welllllllll I’ve learned my lesson there. I’m really grateful for my health. Our bodies are amazing, and sadly we sometimes don’t appreciate them until it’s too late.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ✨ I’m stronger than I thought. Going on this trip was tough enough - mentally, emotionally - but getting hurt in the first month of a 12-month trip, while also just beginning to grow my business - it was a lot. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ✨The support of your friends and community is powerful. The #rycurie community - people who I had only met a week before - supported me, laughed with me, cried with me, and let me know I wasn’t alone. When push comes to shove, communities will unite.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ So the lesson here is, bad things happen when we travel, things we hope will never happen. These are my tips, and they're all related to one another. When we realise how much diet culture has impacted our lives, it's common to want to get people around us to change too, to show them another way, to share that there *is* another way... Only to realise some don't want a bar of it, and may even be concerned (esp if you're in a larger body). . . The biggest piece of advice I can give you is - it's okay if others don't agree, don't understand, or reject it completely. It doesn't mean you tolerate bad behaviour, disrespect or threats to your personal safety. It means it's not your job to get Aunty Karen who's been on a diet every new Monday for decades to see the light. It's not your obligation to fight battles at the dinner table when diet culture sits at the head of the table. Something I remind myself, especially dealing with internet trolls (and my own family), is that many of them won't accept this information until it's mainstream. | Iron Week; the value of supplementing for the athlete | ✅ - Iron plays a significant role in oxygen transport and energy production. A deficiency in iron can lead to reduced physical work capacity, increased fatigue, noticed heart rate, shortness of breath and possible decline in mental health 📚 - We know that iron deficiency is relatively prevalent in athletes but does supplementation actually work?☝️ - A 2012 meta analysis looked at 40 + trials to investigate this question. They found that iron supplementation significantly improved iron status but with high levels of heterogeneity - meaning it varied a lot between studies and this is likely down to dose, dosage period, iron status pre-supplementation, age and sex 📚 - Ok so supplements improve iron status but does that lead to benefit? You go to reopen it and crashes again. ::Begin to wipe sweat off face as a nervous reaction:: Tries a third time and crashes again! You have 3 options: 1. Cry all day because the app isn't working and have an anxiety attack. 2. Just binge eat because you cannot track it. 3. You have Coach Tony on your side, so you know how to fuel your body and do not use MyFitnessPal I have been through all three of these options. I remember when I used to religiously track on MyFitnessPal and one day it didn't work. I did not cry but I felt a rush of anxiety because I could not track my calories. Somedays I wouldn't track and just go off the rails. I would eat everything in sight and have a guilty feeling the next day. Today, I do not track. I teach my clients how to live without using MyFitnessPal. I teach my clients that they can measure their food using their hand! 1. Protein should be the size of the palm of your hand, not including your fingers. 2. Carbs should be the size of your fist. Amount of fists depends on your goals and activity. 3. I’ve been going back and forth about what to do with this account for the past year and I think I have finally figured it out! I have applied to DICAS (the application system for the dietetic internship) 3 TIMES and I finally got in this summer!! 🤗 I received my bachelors degree from @eastcarolinauniv in 2013 and did not know a thing about applying and my application just sucked! So I went and got a job! I have been working in WIC for almost 6 years and during that time I went back to school for my masters. Flash forward to now and my dreams are coming true! I often hear “I eat so well throughout the day, but nighttime comes and it all goes bad” This is normally when I dig deeper to figure out if: On the hunger scale, are they actually truly hungry? Did “eating well” mean they deprived themselves and didn’t have balanced meals throughout the day, meaning the body is making up for it at night. Is it boredom and habit, if so try going for a walk before sitting in front of the TV or try an herbal tea. Emotional eating can occur for many reasons, many cases there can be much deeper things going on. Lastly, it’s okay to have an evening snack. We are all learning ⭐️ . . . Just like learning to swing a bat and hit a ball, we are constantly helping our children learn. . . . Children need to learn how to eat and what to eat. Think about how far they come from infancy to toddler years. They learn to breast feed or bottle feed then learn to take solids. They learn to self feed, feed different textures and tastes. They learn to use utensils and cups. They learn to take bites of bigger foods. They learn to like combination food and foods that are new. They learn that food stays on their plate vs being thrown on the floor. They learn to eat when hungry and stop when full. . . . Eating and food preferences is a learned experience. We must be patient and confident in our ability to provide this experience to our children. . . . One of my main goals for this space is to provide knowledge, insight and real life experiences to give you the confidence to feed your children. I want to make feeding your child as stress free as possible and I want your child to grow and thrive :) . . . One thing I am truly grateful for about this space is all that I am learning. Since starting this account I have gained so much from my followers and others who I am following. My practice as a pediatric dietitian is truly enhanced from you, so thank you!

Some real talk for your Monday: It is 100% okay to still want to lose weight. The truth is, we cannot escape from diet culture (it is insidious and sadly not going anywhere anytime soon) but we can learn how to reject the diet mentality and continue working towards recovery and healing. In those difficult moments, try to hold a non-judgmental space for your thoughts and desires. Remind yourself that you and your body are responding to the environment around you, and you are not to blame. Remind yourself of your values and what is truly important to you. Ask yourself “is this going to allow me to engage fully in my life?” “Is this in line with my recovery?” 🤔Staying curious can be a helpful way to prevent intrusive thoughts from holding so much power and space inside of you. So hang in there, everyone’s journey and process looks different! 💗 and if you’re struggling, you deserve support!

Top with seaweed salad and sesame seeds. Guac and Salsa- mash yolks w a little avocado, top with scallions and salsa Red Pepper Hummus and Crispy Onions - mash yolk with your fave hummus, top with diced red pepper and a few crispy onion slices Lox, Capers and Dill- Jammy egg topped smoked salmon, capers and dill- schmancy yet easy!
