Consistency is the name of the game.🔑 In diet and exercise. In whatever the goal may be. And in order to be consistent, YOU NEED A PLAN. Having a plan sets you up for success. Period.📈 . — No plan doesn’t necessarily mean you’re set to fail... but you are more likely to. 🤷🏽‍♀️ This has been me lately. I’ve had a general calorie goal, but I haven’t been 100% compliant with it. I’ve had extra bites & nibbles. I’ve gone back for seconds. From here out, I’m bucking down. I’ve had my fun & I’m ready (and in NEED🙄) of structure again. If I want my data from this reverse to be relevant, I HAVE to be concise about it. The more accurate my data, the more accurate my adjustments will be as I go into my next dieting phase.👌🏽 — Right now, I’m not exactly sure what my maintenance calories are. I’m guessing around 1900-2000 calories, but the only sure fire way to know is to test it out & see. So I’m going to be 100% concise with this. I’ve set my macros at an average of 1900 calories/day to gauge and see. LOW days (5) - 1706 calories 120P/185C/54F HIGH days (2) - 2386 calories 120P/283C/86F I’M GOING TO BE COMPLIANT AF THIS WEEK. 💥CALORIE DEFICIT TO LOSE FAT💥 By @kurtrawlinsfitness - - - The amount of misinformation fed to the general public in regards to nutrition and weight loss can be frustrating beyond belief. - So many people have fallen prey to so many myths: - ❌ Eat clean foods to lose fat (it’s great for overall health and contributes to fat loss, but is not the answer to losing fat) - ❌ Go low carb to lose fat (if going low carb helps you lower overall calories and is sustainable, it can be a great strategy. However, there are other, more sustainable ways of losing fat for most people.) - There are many others I will cover in a later post. - Anyways, this graphic is mainly to show you the importance of a calorie deficit to lose fat. It is the main driver of fat loss - and you can get there several different ways. - You can continue to eat your 3 square meals as long as you are in a deficit. - If intermittent fasting helps you get in a deficit more easily (it works for many people, but isn’t for everyone), then go for it. - And hey, if you have tried keto and it is a sustainable way of eating for you, great - do it. Just remember - as aforementioned - you’ll still need to be in a deficit to lose fat. - If you’re looking for some special diet that will finally solve your fat loss, stop looking. There isn’t one. - You’re simply going to have to find a sustainable combination of diet and exercise that helps you get in a calorie deficit on a regular basis. - My advice? Start tracking your calories for a few weeks and see what you’re consuming. I'm not a Saint, but I'm a 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 :) ! Did you know that the name 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 and all it's variations come from the 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗼𝘀 which was derived from "𝗴𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗼𝘀" (meaning "𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿", "𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿") ? I know it's not a glorious title, but I'm really proud of this name and about it's history. Mainly because I feel like it actually represents me. I don't consider myself a special human being and I don't see myself above the others. I see myself as a 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿 and a 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 for the people, just like the farmers were back in the old days. However, I don't provide food, 𝗜 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲. A seed of Knowledge that I planted and grown for years, and that now is almost mature to start harvesting it and share it with the others. For the most part it's gonna have very little impact. A more calorie dense meal slows gastric emptying. But does that matter? Back at it after eating more chocolate eggs than I could comfortably admit 😂🐇🐣! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This week I had someone ask me how I stay on track during the holidays. The honest truth is: I DON'T. I love indulging as much as the next person and I've come to understand that my progress won't be diminished or stunted if I spend one weekend eating like a shipwrecked soul who's just been reunited with cheese for the first time 🧀⛵! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I feel like this is likely an unpopular opinion around serious bodybuilders, but I believe in a balanced and sustainable approach to fitness that isn't torturous and allows me to still live like a regular human being 😸👌! All this means is some extra hard work this week, going back to meal planning, and carrying on with life like I didn't "slip" or "cheat," because Y'ALL I DIDN'T. DO YOU TRACK MACROS? USE A FOOD SCALE! _ To be as accurate as possible and to create the most consistency everything you eat should be weighed with a food scale. In other words use the WEIGHT of the food (I prefer grand) over measuring cups and spoons. _ 👆🏻EXAMPLE: One option for logging strawberries is to log “one berry.” Well- as you can see the actual size of “one berry” can vary... SIGNIFICANTLY. Over time, these types of inaccuracies can add up to being significantly off your daily macros. The weight of the food is always going to be more accurate than a cup or spoon measurement. Whether it’s a piece of fruit like a strawberry, or a TBSP of peanut butter, I always recommend that everything be weighed. _ Who cares if you’re a little over or under? Well, a few extra grams here and there can really add up by the end of your day. Here’s an example: 1️⃣ Say you eat two TBSP (15g each) of PB 2️⃣ If you don’t weigh it and are over by 10g each TBSP, this adds 20 extra grams of PB 3️⃣ If 15g = 95 calories, and you eat 25g that is 158 calories per TBSP (or, 63 extra calories). 4️⃣ If you do that twice a day you are eating 126 extra calories a day and if you do that each day of the week, by the end of the week you’ll have consumed an EXTRA 882 calories. See my point? Without accuracy you can quickly turn a deficit into a surplus. Some additional tips: 👉🏻 Listed serving sizes on foods are helpful when you’re without a scale, but when possible, still weigh and check the accuracy of the label. Often they can be off by as much as 20g!! 👉🏻 Use the tare/zero button! It’s a lifesaver. Posting this beautiful plate from a few weeks ago because I had something similar for brunch today: Sea King’s Bangus Sisig cooked without oil, served with whole wheat toast, Lemon Square Quezo Con Ube Lava Twin Cake, and an almost perfect sunny-side up on top. And yes, I still hate myself for getting some of the onion bits on that beautiful yolk 🤦 Speaking of epic fails, here’s a friendly reminder to be mindful of the given serving sizes of the food you consume, regardless of your fitness goals. For the last three weeks, I’ve been happily indulging—and if you know me, that’s near “eat straight out of the jar” type of indulging—on this yummy local peanut butter brand that claims a teaspoon for its serving size, even though one teaspoon is actually worth twice as much when weighed! Good thing I (1) invested on a proper digital scale this weekend, which is the only reason why I found out, (2) and that I’m bulking. Initially, I thought my calorie surplus is too aggressive due to the fact that I was gaining half a pound per week, so I am really happy that this came to light before I cut my calories.
