3 months... In these three months ... I bruised my coccyx... lost a lot of motivation in the gym... but yet I can still see my hard work and progress pushing through. Instead of feeding yourself excuses, give yourself a purpose! I had a tough time getting motivation to go back to the gym after starting the new job. I would come home and have all these excuses to not go. I noticed what I was doing to myself and that's when I realized what my original purpose of exercising was. I dont do it to stay in shape, I do it to help with stress and anxiety! The first thing you get to learn when you enter any fitness studio is “cardio”. Cardio is important and should be done regularly, we all know that. So let me get straight to the point! There are numerous ways how you can do your cardio, like treadmillds, ellipticals, stationary bikes, dancing,… choice is all yours. What matters is its intensity. Cardio can be divided into low, medium and high intensity and again, according to your goals, you can pick one for you. If your fitness level is zero, you should go for moderate intensity while it’s less intimidating. As your fitness level will increase, consequently you need to boost your cardio session. The best would be to go for HIIT (high intensity interval training). Another thing is duration of a cardio session. I would say from 20 up to 45 min is just enough. I also got asked when to place cardio in a training! An average person has aproximately an hour per day for fitness, and in that case everyting needs to be packed in-weights and cardio. If you are in that group, you should be doing your cardio after the weights. Why? Let me explain. Carbohydrates from the food are metabolized to glucose in the process called glycolises, resulting in accumulation of glycogen in a liver and muscles. Glycogen serves as readily available source of energy, which means that it is utilized first when body is exposed to stress. Gluconeogenesis is a process where non-carbohydrate building units (like fat!) are used to deliver energy, and it happens only after glycogen is depleted. So if you utilize your glycogen during weights session, during cardio you’re gonna be burning, guess what-fat. If you are doing cardio before weights you’ll be worn out, your energy level will be low and training sluggish, plus you’re risking injuries. For those who are lucky to have a plenty of time I suggest two separate trainings in a day- morning cardio session and later in the afternoon training with weights.
