had a decent training sesh in less than an hour this morning. Wasn't supposed to lift today but I felt like it. Utilising negative reps are a great way to overload the muscle with higher load then usual resulting in greater muscle breakdown/stimulus. This is one of the times I recommend that you cheat on the concentric part of the movement and then slowly lower the load under control back to the starting position. If it's being raised from the sides then it's "Lateral raises" you really don't need to add "side" to your "Lateral raises" while addressing this particular exercise to anyone. I haven't seen "front lateral raises" or "back lateral raises though" .
