Both currently weighing in at 15st 5.5lbs. When we started this we wanted to lose 50lbs in 50 weeks, before our big family holiday in July. Some days are harder than others, but we need to do this. For ourselves. There was a bad day last week with cupcakes. But the next day we woke up and got straight back on it. We are determined. There has definitely been a switch in our mentality about this. Friends wedding today, so another small day off, but only for the wedding meal, maybe a beer each. THE 80% RULE: Another commonality found in the Blue Zones is the idea of eating till one is no longer hungry rather than eating till one is full. 🌱 The Okinawans have a practice of saying “hara hachi bu” right before a meal. This is a reminder to stop eating when one is 80% full. 🥗 How does eating till your 80% full contribute to longevity? For one, you have reduced cellular damage from free radicals. By eating less, you weight less which helps lower blood pressure and cholesterol which reduce the risk for heart disease. How often do you eat out? I went to a German restaurant and this is the small size of their roasted pork dish, you could get a whole knuckle. This could be two regular meals for me if I eat at home. I could afford to enjoy finer things in life so I had been eat out a lot more. But when eating out, the dishes are always huge, when food is on my plate I often eat more than I should. I’ve gained more than 10% of my weight in the last year. I slowly grow out of my clothes :/ this isn’t sustainable health wise. This is why I tend to cook at home a lot more these days.
