I was at my FAVE store, World Market, yesterday and I had to FIGHT myself not to load up my basket with every kind of British Christmas treat, all the marzipan (an almond paste usually covered in chocolate) and all the cute candies for my kids' stockings. THE STRUGGLE IS REAL, Y'ALL Every single day, the struggle is real. It's darker, it's colder, the Hallmark movies are playing and the hot chocolate is calling... So today I am grateful to my team. The reason I started coaching was knowing myself, that when times get tough it's just too easy to "take a break", "enjoy it, you've earned it" and all the other self-talk that sabotages the end goal. I knew that I needed a buddy system, and a community, because even though I love my workout programs - you can't outwork bad nutrition. If this is you as well, I have incredible news. Yummy warm breakfast (well except for the cantaloupe) ... Turmeric egg whites and a bowl almond cheddar “cheese” turkey sausage quinoa bake. Actually I just tossed my quinoa, turkey sausage, and “cheese” in the microwave and “baked” it that way haha. Seasoned it with some sage, dill, parsley, and onion powder. Topped with @traderjoes Green Dragon sauce of course for a kick. I ended up chopping up the egg and tossing it in there too. I love how quinoa is so versatile. MYTH! . I have been on an almost complete plant-based diet now for a few months and I feel great. I moved away from saying vegan because I don't necessarily like being "labeled" or labeling others. I also don't want to be the guy that freaks out somewhere because there may be honey or something in a food. I like plant-based because it more or less describes the type of food you eat and it feels a little less restrictive when trying to talk to someone thinking about becoming a plant-based eater. It also doesn't seem as scary to become plant-based compared to vegan when talking to people about it. . I would say I'm 99.9% plant-based and a big question I get is about protein. Protein is an essential element in any diet and I'm not talking about bodybuilders in this post. Yes you need higher amounts of protein as it is essential for rebuilding muscle tissue after lifting. You can still get enough from plant foods though! But for the average everyday person, you will almost always have enough protein, or amino acids, in your body on a well-balanced plant-based diet. . Foods such as beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains, quinoa (actually a seed) give you the essential amino acids your body needs. It is important to eat a mix of those foods to get all your essential amino acids in. Quinoa contains all the essential amino acids your body needs which is why this is such a power food for plant-based eaters. . So please don't be afraid to go plant-based because you think your missing out on protein or other vitamins and minerals. I guarantee that a well balanced plant-based diet will give you way more nutrients than you may be getting now on the standard American diet. I'm always open to answer any questions 🙏🏻 . Welcome to a portion of my 🍅 🥕 🥒 patch. . We’ll be relocating in the new year (much to our surprise), and part of me wanted to just give up as we won’t reap the full harvest (and didn’t want to leave my best efforts for someone else 😏). But I just couldn’t do that, as gardening is not just about the food anymore it has become a happy place, to just be and think through the craziness that surrounds me and then just be present with the basics of life. And that’s why I did today. . Im a hack gardener at best. I don’t have time to read all the books and watch all the ‘how to’ videos because if I do I get so overwhelmed and I’d never do anything 😜 so I buys seeds, seedlings and throw everything in together and learn through experience 😂😂 . . We have corn, raspberries, beans, lots of heirloom tomatoes, elderberries, rockmelon, spaghetti squash, golden oregano, cucumbers, chard, carrots, lettuce, basil, tarragon, beets and numerous other impulse buys 😂

Speedy has hypothyroidism... Was diagnosed when he was 4. Funny how our insurance based “medical community” is happy to give him meds and call it a day! So, so, so very grateful I have a REAL functional doctor @rahavwellness that not only encourages me to believe he can get better, she works on making it happen! We just have to peel back the layers of damage his body is fighting to heal... I found this book, Thyroid Healing, and although I have only read snipets here and there, I am excited to see what new layers I can reach in helping Speedy to recover even further! Apparently he’s excited also!!! He actually started reading the book before I had a chance to even open it! He’s already educating me on how ketones are healthy for the brain... oh man, I don’t know... Diet is key in training. Lately I’ve been focusing more on just #whole #healthy foods, and i see changes in my physique. * Everyone loses their shit to make sure they eat “adequate protein” and completely forget that healthy carbs and fats are essential to proper growth and recovery. Protein is important but if you’re eating steak all day and not supplementing It with greens and grains, you’re missing out on crucial nutrients and vitamins. Not to mention without adequate carbs/fat, you can’t have positive nitrogen balance alone with protein ☺️ . Majority of protein powders are crap, and filled with artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors. You only need **0.8-1.2 g of protein / PER KILOGRAM of BW a day. Heavy lifting/athletes up to 1.8-2 is acceptable. So Stop the nonsense. Extra protein doesn’t turn into muscle magically. So maybe stop eating fake sugar free protein bars 8 times a day and inhaling burgers every single day and maybe eat some kale? Some spinach? Some oats? Isn’t health important? Yes. Our culture celebrates those who often have the heaviest ecological footprint.⁣ ⁣ We live in a culture that makes decisions largely based on money first everything else after. Cultures connected to the land saw the folly in that and knew we cannot eat money. ⁣ ⁣ I struggle with this daily as I build my business constantly tempted by branding products that are helpful to our lives while not posing a problem to our planet. ⁣ ⁣ I’m inspired by businesses like; @nada @zerowaste @thesoapdispensary @lunapads aware that we are killing ourselves with packaging and landfill gifting. ⁣ ⁣ I’m working to find things people will use and love for a VERY long time that will enhance their life without negatively impacting the planet. What I eat in a day...starting from upper left hand corner: Post-workout snack: Chobani @chobani Plain Non-fat Greek yogurt with @montchevre Goat cheese with blueberry and vanilla, some almonds, and some hemp seeds. Breakfast: Chocolate peanut butter overnight oatmeal smoothie with a banana, cinnamon, ginger, and chia seeds on top. This was THE best oatmeal I’ve ever eaten. Lunch: Ezekiel bread English muffin @foodforlifebaking topped with almond cheddar “cheese”, tomato, spinach and kale mix and avocado with a side of my homemade cauliflower pumpkin soup! Afternoon snack pic is missing but it was Fage @fage 2% Plain Greek yogurt topped with cinnamon and I added pistachios and pineapple. Supper: An Xtreme wellness spinach wrap from @olemexicanfoods stuffed with spinach and kale, black beans, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, beets, Parmesan cheese, black olives, and tuna topped with dill seasoning and my @traderjoes Green Dragon sauce. I also had a side of cantaloupe and a bit of broccoli. Pretty typical day for my eating. All delicious and nourishing 🙏🙌🏼.
