Venison steak pan- fried with roasted yellow beets, and a tomato/avocado medley! 😋😍. . . These are pretty simplistic meals but these are the meals my husband loves the most. Simple venison seasonings so we don't cover up the natural venison flavor and veggies (he prefers not always a salad.. but always roasted veggies) so roasting is my go to method of preparation. . . We both prefer to mostly limit our carbohydrate intake to the carbs in fruits and veggies... though we will probably never turn down pizza, chips, or pasta (and I'm a sucker for white rice)😉 !! Spot the photo bomber. 3pm marks the end of my eating window for the day which means one last meal packed with healthy protein and fats to get me through dinner time without feeling hangry. For the past 2 months I've been doing intermittent fasting (16:8) and it's helped me to knock 5kg off but more importantly, I can notice a huge improvement in my digestion and energy levels! Most people I come across fast in the mornings and eat dinner, but I am set on the idea that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and honestly if I skip breakfast I have 0 energy for the day. So I start my day by having breakfast at 7am and try to smash all my meals in (I'm not into calorie deficits so still eating like a champ) until 3pm when I top it off with a @uniquemuscleofficial protein powder and home made almond milk and usually partner that with a big bowl of veg, pepitas, avocado and tuna or something similar. Some of the reported benefits of intermittent fasting are: 💪Lowers insulin levels 💪Lowers risk of type 2 diabetes 💪Improves heart health by reducing blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol and triglycerides 💪Improves brain health by suppressing inflammation in the brain 💪Reduces the risk of neurological disorders 💪Reduces risk of cancer I'm NOT into diets and think of this as more of a lifestyle change. If you're looking to improve your health PLEASE don't look at it from a weight loss perspective. Skinny doesn't mean healthy and feeling deprived isn't going to do you any good long term. When I started changing the way I ate, it was also about changing the way I thought about the whole grocery shopping, planning & cooking process. Believe it or not, I loathed it! It was a constant struggle to keep up w/ the shopping & to know what to make everyday. I would honestly dread it. But what I realized, I wasn’t making the process work for me. I was doing it the way I thought it was supposed to be done. As soon as I shifted my perspective, it became easier & enjoyable. It was really f’ing hard at first, as anything w/ change but once it clicked, it was like hitting the jackpot. So what did I realize? Keep it simple & find what works for YOU! For me looking up recipes & writing down ALL the things I had to buy for the recipes was painful, overwhelming & anxiety provoking. I know some people thrive off of it & that’s amazing. I am not one of those people (don’t get me wrong I love a good new recipe, just not everyday) The idea of having to create a list every week & then go through the store in search of all of the ingredients makes me want to cry. It’s just not something that is sustainable for me & causes major burn out! It wasn’t the grocery shopping or the cooking itself, it was the long list & expectation of making all of the recipes. And when it didn’t happen, I felt like a failure! When it comes to this, I have found I’m a “fly by the seat of my pants” kind of girl. That is because it gives me the freedom to be creative! Going grocery shopping & cooking then turned into a fun adventure & a creative outlet! Moral of the story: just like there isn’t a one-size-fits-all diet, there also isn’t the same for how you manage your groceries and cooking. Which is a HUGE component in healthy, clean eating. Find a system that works for you & have fun with it!! My ADVICE: build your fridge & pantry w/ dynamic, fresh foods! Mix and match, experiment and don’t be afraid to fail. I failed a lot & still do! i’ll be honest - i don’t have a fancy bone in my body. i love the idea of all the finest things like wines, cheeses, etc., but i’m a pretty simple gal when it comes to all that. i’ve been dying to try the @traderjoes cauli pizza crust for the longest time but haven’t picked one up until yesterday. rather than making a traditional pizza, i decided to step out of my comfort zone and top it with ingredients that i’ve always considered “too fancy” for my palette (lol what does that even mean??). this pizza feels like so much more than pizza, but actually ended up being such a simple dish. definitely hanging on to this recipe! ✨ • dEATS: cook the @traderjoes cauli crust according to the box. top with olive oil, 2 minced garlic cloves, cubes of brie, and a few slices of prosciutto. bake for 6 minutes and allow it to cool. top it off with some baby arugula and bon appétit! 😋

There’s nothing like being back in the kitchen after a week away! I was super duper anxious going on my trip knowing I had SIBO. Traveling with digestive issues sucks. There’s no sugar coating it. SIBO or not, being prepared definitely helped. I followed a low Fodmap diet to the best of my ability and packed snacks for the plane ride/during the day. first things first when I get back in to town? @wholefoodsbham run to stock up for the week! my goal for a while has been to reduce my plastic use & one step I’m taking in 2019 is not using the plastic bags to individually hold my fruits & veggies! I’ve just been loading up my cart with everything I want & then when I get home I soak everything in warm water + a fruit & veggie cleaner + ACV! also, yes my berries are in plastic, but I feel better about buying those when I’m not using tons of plastic baggies! small steps always make progress🤗plus I love seeing all the colors in my cart 🍎🍐🍋🍌🍅🥑🥦🥒🥕🥔

When it comes to snacks, are you Team Sweet or Team Savory? 🍫🥨🤷‍♀️ . Lately I have had the biggest SWEET TOOTH- not that there’s anything wrong with that! Craving chocolate or sweets is a NORMAL part of being human- it’s satisfying, comforting, and brings joy to a lot of people. But all too often we convince ourselves of being “bad” for wanting a sweet snack. . True, when we crave and eat sweets, or any food for that matter, from a place of shame and guilt, it more likely starts a cycle of restriction and ultimately bingeing. But if we find ways to WELCOME sweets and mindfully incorporate chocolate, a craving’s hold over us loosens and we learn that we CAN enjoy it whenever and however we want. . Sometimes I want to satisfy my craving with solo squares of chocolate, but other times I like to play with it and dip apple slices into the melty good stuff. Sure, I’m getting a bit more fiber and nutrition thanks to the apple, but either form is a GREAT way to honor that craving. . If you’re working on satisfying your sweet tooth, save this recipe 👇 . 🍫 over a doubler boiler or in the microwave melt chocolate chips. Stir frequently until smooth 🍎 cut apple into slices. Some people, like my husband, find texture to be an obstacle when it comes to trying new foods. For example, a childhood of mushy, boiled broccoli may be enough to make you swear off this veggie and “NEVER!” eat it in any other form. Happy Monday Loves ✨ I hope you all had a good weekend. Cauliflower Fried “Rice” is on the menu today. Grab the recipe below 👇 I was disappointed when I first realized that grains were giving me health issues. I thought it would be nearly impossible to give them up, especially since I’m not a big meat eater, but it’s been such a great experience! Not only do I feel better, but it’s forced me to be more creative in the kitchen. Truthfully, in spite of my initial fears, I don’t miss grains, or beans at all, and I certainly don’t miss the hormonal imbalances, hives, cat allergies, joint pain, inflammation, brain-fog, fatigue, anxiety, & depression...not to mention the digestive upsets. So if you’re suffering from any of these symptoms, I encourage you to try eliminating grains & beans for a time to see how you feel. If you’re interested in learning more about the biochemistry behind why grains can be an issue for people, I highly suggest “Grain Brain” by the neurologist @davidperlmutter . My educational background is in Ecology, Conservation Biology, & Infectious Disease, so I appreciate the science in Dr. Perlmutter’s work. It's lunchtime! Hehe. Oh I do love my food. After dining out last night (we went for a Thai platter and I had a Thai Jungle tofu curry), I am back on the clean eating plan. Good evening! Fancy something sweet after dinner? How about these healthy coconut truffles made with beans and nut butter with coconut? I have made an extra batch to give as a present (just pop in a clean jam jar and pop a bow on!). What do you think? This chocolate banana overnight oats is the perfect breakfast for the chocoholic; tasting indulgently chocolatey and creamy, but it is actually healthy!
