#fallforcostume Day 17: 18th Century. Hands down my favourite thing I’ve ever made is my chemise a la reine. Easy to wear, versatile, washable, and I feel a million dollars in it. If you don’t already have one of your own, I highly recommend it!

October 17th 1918 ~ Margarita Carmen Cansino is born On this day, American actress and dancer Rita Hayworth was born. She achieved fame during the 1940s as one of the era's top stars, appearing in a total of 61 films over 37 years. The press coined the term "The Love Goddess" to describe Hayworth after she had become the most glamorous screen idol of the 1940s. She was the top pin-up girl for GIs during World War II. Hayworth is perhaps best known for her performance in the 1946 film noir, Gilda, opposite Glenn Ford, in which she played the femme fatale in her first major dramatic role. Fred Astaire, with whom she made two films, called her his favorite dance partner. Her greatest success was in the Technicolor musical Cover Girl (1944), with Gene Kelly. She is listed as one of the top 25 female motion picture stars of all time in the American Film Institute's survey, AFI's 100 Years,100 Stars. In 1980, Hayworth was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, which contributed to her death at age 68. The public disclosure and discussion of her illness drew attention to Alzheimer's, which was largely unknown by most people at the time, and helped to increase public and private funding for Alzheimer's research. #ritahayworth #hayworth #margaritacarmencansino #actress #model #icon #pinupmodel #dancer #1918 #october17 #fashion #fashiondiscovery #fashionhistory #fashioncalendar #onthisday

Eras change one another and there disappear hundreds of items made, by the way, in one and only piece, and not on an industrial scale of the 21st century. For example, these gloves tongs. Once these were in the wardrobe of every woman, because how else could you wear tight gloves, tight-fitting hands. They were made of thin and soft skin of sheep which was specially treated. Each finger of the glove had to be stretched with the help of such forceps. Just imagine this amazing ritual! Today, these tongs from a utilitarian object, turned into a collector's item, as well as a good gift to a modern fashionista, who, for sure, will like a thing with a "fashionable" history. Glove Stretchers: Europe end of 19-th – first quarter of 20-th century, material ivory. Dimension: 16 cm Price: 1200 Roubles Delivery all over the world . . . .

I guess this will be an #18thcentury entry for today’s #fallforcostume! Im currently working on getting Anne some outerwear because the event we’re going to on Sunday is going to be a little chilly. Here we have a tiny pair of white matelasse mitts with pink silk and a wool cloak made from 34” square-ish of fabric, hood in black silk and faced hem in the same. #18thcenturytoddler

We view her in profile, her face shielded by a net veil that forms a shadowy haze. Her makeup is carefully applied, her black cloche brightened by a jewel. She wears a dark suit and pale blouse - enlivened by a glowing string of pearls. #umbo #ottoumbehr 1930 #germanfashion #weimarfashion #1930sfashion #vintagefashion #dresshistory #fashionhistory #fashionstudies

A mid 1850s silk day dress that looks not unlike an expensive chocolate.
