This may not be much to lots of you guys who do 20k steps per day. But I rarely can get over 8k. Granted I only use my phone for tracking atm, but still. I have a very sedentary job as a web designer. So I sit at a computer all day. Despite going for a 15min walk around the parking lot at work everyday and going to the gym every night, I still struggle to get that 10k step count in. This is the first time I’ve reached it in a very very long time. It’s great to find inspiration of what’s possible from someone else’s weight-loss story. But understand that you, your body, your journey and your final destination is unique to you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Years ago, after I’d lost about 70 lbs, I read an article by Erin Stern. In it, she talked about how lifting weights and building muscle could change the shape of your body. She talked about how a pear-shaped woman could build her back and shoulders to make her waist appear smaller and compliment the size of her lower body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That was music to my ears. I was a pear-shape. I had a big ole booty, hips and thighs and was smaller from the waist up. I wanted to change my shape, but before reading Erin’s article, I didn’t know I could. Her article piqued my interest in body building (the act not the sport) and I set out on a quest to reshape my body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Because I’d never seriously lifted weights, I had no idea what my body would/could look like if I added muscle and lost more fat. I used Erin’s physique as something to work towards with the understanding that my end result would likely look very different than hers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here I am almost 10 years later. I’ve added muscle, lost fat and reshaped my body. While I still admire Erin’s physique, I no longer have it in mind while I’m working on mine. Instead, I focus on me and I focus on: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👉🏼the parts of my body I want to improve 👉🏼the parts of my body I now love 👉🏼on how strong I feel 👉🏼on how accomplished I feel when I push through tough reps 👉🏼 who I’ve become from all the weight I’ve lifted and reps I’ve completed ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On your weight loss journey, it’s cool to use someone’s physique to inspire and motivate you to transform. Shred when cooked then use for tacos, homemade burrito bowls, or whatever you want. That’s literally it. No prep. Minimal clean up. Food for a few days. 💥DO YOU HAVE AN ACTIVE JOB?💥 - One of the main benefits of the gym is to counterbalance the lack of movement in our day. - But if you’re already moving and lifting stuff all day at work... - 🤷‍♂️Your needs are going to be different than someone who sits at a desk. - This goes back to the point that not everyone has to do the same thing for exercise. - 30k steps and then a workout afterwards is going to be tough for ANYONE to recover from. - For someone just starting out? Christmas is one week from today. And I’ll bet that if you haven’t already, you are going to be attending some holiday parties between now and the New Year. For most of my clients, our conversations have been centered around how to handle these situations so that they can enjoy themselves but still stay on track. # You might be tempted to restrict your eating leading up to the event to save room for more calories later on. While this can work, it can also backfire. I suggest eating a small meal with a decent amount of protein before you go so that you won’t be as tempted to overeat once you arrive. # Worried there won’t be healthy options or you’ll have to field comments from other party goers as to why you’re passing on the indulgences? If so, bring your own healthy dish and serve yourself a larger helping of that. # If possible, fill your plate with mostly protein and veggies. So long as they aren’t drenched in sauces or oil, fill up on these before reaching for the  treats. # The wine, champagne, cocktails, and eggnog will surely be flowing, but try limiting yourself to 1-2 drinks. Alcohol is an easy way to consume excess calories, lowers your inhibitions, and does nothing to fill you up. # That being said, choose your one indulgence. If you want to drink, pass on the desserts and other fatty or carb laden foods. And if you really love pie or cookies, opt for zero calorie beverages. # Set rules for yourself. Ex) I will have 2 drinks max, I will limit myself to one plate of food, I will only have dessert if I eat veggies first. # Use the Hell Yes and First Bite rule. Enjoy the one item that’s just too good to pass up and leave the rest. It’s likely not the frosted, store bought cookies you can literally buy the other 364 days a year, but maybe it’s your mom’s famous pie. Choose wisely, and practice the first bite rule.  Check in with yourself as you eat, and when the food is no longer as enjoyable as that first bite, put the fork down. # Remember, this is your life and no one can force anything upon you. You always have the right to say no, thanks.

They don’t give your body “Everything” it needs. At first you will have that feeling of, _ “This is AMAZING”!! _ Then the initial energy will go away because of the lack of, well everything. My first attempt at skillet pasta turned out very tasty. I started with sautéing broccoli and mushrooms with some garlic. Then added chicken sausage from @traderjoes . Finally added @ancientharvest’s Pow! Green Lentil Penne Pasta with chicken broth. Let it boil for about 10 minutes and once the pasta was cooked, it was time to eat! I plan to eat this for 4 meals, looking at around 400 calories and 40 grams of protein per serving. First workout in WAY TOO LONG! Chest and triceps. Went to New York, got back home on the 6th and brought a cold with me. Now the cold is gone and gym can finally resume! @ibaraki13 and I tried a new gym today. It’s a local strength gym and not a big box chain. We liked it. Repost From @sedulously.fit: After dropping 60 pounds around Dec 2017, with still more weight to lose and muscle to gain, it is crazy to me to think I had enough confidence in myself to sign up for a bodybuilding competition. I no idea of what I was doing. Along with no prep coach. 😅 What was I thinking? Pretty much I’d learn as I go and I did just that. . . I’d been wanting to do it for a while but never made a move because I was overweight for the last 3 years due to #hypothyroidism . I decided to go for it when I finally lost 60 pounds. Clearly I needed more time than the 13 weeks I gave myself to prepare and I still rocked that stage with what I had accomplished. . . 1 full year later of daily strength training, a lot has changed, both physically and mentally. This has been an awesome experience. I knew I enjoyed weightlifting before, I love it now more than ever. It’s helped me in a lot of ways and I’m glad I finally got serious about it. . . . It’s much easier to say you’ll do a show when you look like me now, but it’s much harder to start from a place of insecurity and work your way here. Maybe you might be underweight, as opposed to overweight, it’s still a challenge. Don’t be afraid of the challenge. KNOW- EXTRA CARDIO - Doing “more cardio” to offset a binge or splurge is never the best answer. - If you've consumed a surplus of 1000-1500 calories in one day, it's simply not realistic to expect you can burn off an additional 1000-1500 calories in 1 cardio session. Also, treating cardio as a "punishment" will get you in the wrong mindset. - If you use your training as a way to, so to speak, "punish" yourself whenever you enjoy more food than you should have, you won't be intrinsically motivated to keep working out. As cliche as it may sound, I like the saying: "Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do, not a punishment for what you ate." - Once you start associating your training with overall health and physical performance improvements, it'll be more fun to go to the gym and the progress you achieve is more fulfilling. - As far as "recovering" from a splurge day, the best way to do this is just by moving on. In the grand scheme of things, one big meal means nothing if you move on and get back on track. It's been ONE YEAR since injured my back, and it STILL is injured! 😥😭 Yesterday, I went to the gym for the first time in who knows how long!!! I had been stretching and resting my back at home but it hasn't gotten better...and I was just fed up with becoming a lump so I decided to go to the gym. If my back is going to hurt anyway, I might as well try to maintain my health otherwise. Here I am in a Zumba class. I have a love-hate relationship with Zumba. It's not what I necessarily want to do at the gym but it does help me get my 10k steps and get my heart pumping! If starting to free-hand journal seems difficult at first I highly recommend the 5 Minute Journal which has daily prompts. - 5. Track your screen time. A big detriment to mental health in today’s society is too much time on our devices. Use apps and trackers to monitor yourself and cut back. - 6. Quotes. I love reading quotes, especially from famous entrepreneurs, former presidents/leaders, and athletes. Quotes can help affirm your feelings and beliefs and motivate you to reach your goals. - You don’t have to do all of these things or even more than one. In fact I would highly recommend only starting out by incorporating one new habit into your day as trying to do too much can cause an overload that leads you to give up altogether. USING TIME TO YOUR ADVANTAGE by @lb3fitness⁣ ⁣ 🕑 Time is by far THE biggest factor when it comes to getting in shape. It takes time. You have to find time. You have to put in time. It seems like time is your enemy 😡.⁣ ⁣ 🕣 We can use time as a tool for good though. Usually when people think about progressing an exercise to make it harder, they think to add more weight. Instead, we can manipulate time to change the difficulty of our workouts.⁣ ⁣ ⏳ Slow down your movements. Also known as tempo exercises, slowing down your movements increases the time under tension on your muscles. They are forced to work longer, which makes them work harder. Try doing bodyweight squats with a 3 second lowering phase, and then a 3 second raise 🔥🔥🔥.⁣ ⁣ 😴 Less rest: cutting down your rest periods makes your workout much more intense. You have less time between sets to recover, so you have to work harder to do the same work. You can either do the same amount of work in less time, or do more work in the same amount of time you were before. Either way is a win 🥇.⁣ ⁣ ⏭ AMRAP = as many reps as possible. So set a timer for a short period, like 30-90 seconds, and try to complete as many GOOD and CLEAN reps as possible in that time. Then, next workout try to beat your record.⁣ ⁣ ✔️ Give these all a try! These are excellent tricks to help challenge yourself without always having to increase the weight. Especially good for when you don’t have access to a full gym, ie when you’re traveling or working out at home. Tag a friend to do this with and try not to die… by @workout_lovrs First of all, for those unaware, body composition measuring is often done via either laboratory methods (eg. DEXA, BODPOD) or field methods (eg. skinfolds, ultrasound, BIA) however there is a large gap between the 2 in terms of how accurate they are. Usually lab methods are FAR more accurate than field-based ones as field ones (like callipers) are highly unreliable & very reliant on the skill of the tester ➖ For example when highly experienced skin calliper testers were told to measure for bf% using top end equipment, Walia (1992) showed their readings to be 21-45% lower than the participant’s being tested true body fat (measured via CAT scan) thus imagine the variance of readings from the average Joe using callipers from the 1€ shop. Therefore, unless you get 5% from a DEXA then it is highly subject to variation (often being much higher) ➖ Even then, the more accurate lab methods have still shown NOT to be 100% accurate (as seen by the lad’s readings) & can be influenced from factors such as glycogen, hydration status, creatine levels or machine manufacturer (Bone et al 2014). What the heck do you eat??? After 16 years in the health and fitness community......that is still the number one question I get. At 40 years old and after years of our family eating healthy and using holistic nutrition...... I forget at times what has been a way of life for us is not for others. I was 18 years old when I began striving to improve my health...at 18 I took my first probiotics, used essential oils, was put on an anti-candida diet, began gut repair for at the time a diagnosis of IBS, was started on B vitamins for depression and adrenal fatigue, vitamin D, magnesium, chromium for blood sugar............ though 22 years later all of these things have advanced....as well as new nutritional technologies have been discovered...aiding in me gaining the best health for myself, my family and those whom I work with seeking to improve their own. I am realizing every day, as I look through social media and stand in line at the grocery store, why there is so much confusion of what is healthy, what is not....what helps and what doesn't. We eat whole foods and supplement to fill in the gaps. Mastering the basics is key, listening to your body and a willingness to stay consistent. Grateful for 22 years of credibility .....overcoming my own health, weight, self sabotage and emotional eating struggles to inspire, teach and guide others to become strong again.

I keep fighting this big frame of mine. I’m about 201 lbs here and my goal is to be around 185 lbs and have nice definition. I’m still using intermittent fasting and the kinobody warrior shred program to get me the fat loss that I want while maintaining strength. I have a way to go!
