Now that the weather outside is getting colder, you need to make sure your body is prepared for the activity ahead. Follow my warm-up routine for optimal health and performance before commencing your session . Summary . A well-planned warm up can not only prevent injuries and improve physical readiness, it can also significantly improve mental readiness for exercise, meaning you will feel more motivated for the activity ahead . We all know that we should warm up before exercising, we all know there are so many benefits to warming up . However, myself included, we don't always allocate time to do it . In recent years, research suggests that warming up serves four purposes: 1. Mental Readiness 2. Physical Readiness 3. Injury Prevention 4. Performance Enhancements . A well designed warm-up routine can increase blood flow, body temperature, and disrupt temporary connective tissue bonds, allowing for the following positive effects on performance: - Better muscle coordination between opposing muscles - Improvements in rate of force - Improvements in muscular strength & power - Improve oxygen delivery - Increase blood flow to the active muscles - Enhance metabolic reactions . Warm-ups should last for approximately 15 to 30 minutes . Warm-ups should follow the RAMP protocol developed by Dr. Jeffrey and is constructed of the following sequence: 1. Raise 2. Activate 3. Time is the most valuable commodity you will ever have! * And yet we give it away so freely. Someone asks you to spend some time or give them a lift somewhere that takes a couple of hours out of your day it’s no big problem. If they ask you to lend them a tenner then all of a sudden there is a bit of apprehension. * Value your time wisely don’t wish it away try and make the most of it try to be efficient with it for example reading/working on the commute, audiobooks whilst doing housework or gardening. * And then you have the best option; to extend your time. Being healthy weight appropriate and exercising will contribute to this by stacking years on your life! Lots more time!
