With Instagram being a cesspool of exercise tutorials, you have to be careful about who you listen to. Meaning if the best reasoning they give for doing an exercise is “THE PUMP IS UNREAL” or it’s great because it works your core — you may want to be skeptical. . This “barbell” lateral raise is a popular one that I see amongst the big IG fitness stars. The most common reasoning I see for doing it is some nonsense about “stabilizer” muscles. . But let’s think through this one: - the purpose of this exercise should be to train your side delts using maximal tension - by using a longer bar, you have to expend more energy trying to stabilize the bar instead of putting that energy into the purpose of the exercise -> maximal tension on your side delts - by using a longer bar, you have to reduce the amount of weight you would use compared to a dumbbell, which is much more “compact” . The point is you’re overcomplicating the purpose of the exercise. If you can’t “feel it” in your delts when you use DBs, you need to change your technique. Same principle applies to bosu ball squats. Making the exercise harder does not automatically equate to more muscle built. No need to re-invent the wheel, my friends. Hope this helps.

TARGET YOUR INNER THIGHS↩️ 6 simple exercises to isolate your inner thighs using minimal equipment! 1️⃣Sumo Squats: add a plate under each heel of your foot, keeping your legs wide and feet pointed outward. 2️⃣Dumbbell Sumo Squats: same as above but a different variation with weights. Legs and feet pointed outward. 3️⃣Deep Side Lunge: foot faced slightly outward on lunging leg. Keep the opposite foot faced heel up and proceed into lunge. 4️⃣Sidekicks: keep stable leg slightly bent, engage core and kick with the other leg. 5️⃣Inner Thigh Lifts: this can be done laying down or sitting up. Cross one leg over the other, Flex bottom leg and raise up & down without touching the ground. 6️⃣Plié Squats: get into sumo squat position. Pulse up and down on the balls of your feet. This is also good for calves and thighs!
