🍠What’s the secret to a super crispy potato ? Here’s my fool proof 4 step process: 1. Boil them before you bake them 2. Add 1 tsp baking Soda to the boiling water 3. Drain the water, add 1 tbsp coconut oil + pinch of salt to the hot boiled potatoes. Place the lid back on and shake to roughen the edges 4. In my house, we are absolutely mad for mangoes. In fact, this time of year, we like to buy Alphonso mangoes by the case and make this smoothie numerous times! 😋 . There are over 1000 varieties of mangoes in existence. Each type has a unique flavour and texture. Alphonso mangos are native to western India and are a national obsession during the short season from March through June. They have smooth, creamy, golden saffron-coloured flesh with a sweet tropical flavour. The rich taste is described as a blend of peach, nectarine, apricot & melon with hints of 🍯 & citrus, only better! . If you enjoy mangoes, these ones are certainly worth a try. They have even made it to the the List of 1000 Things to Eat Before You Die! 😉 . Alphonso mangoes can be found at many Indian grocery stores in the GTA. Ayurvedic Beetroot Relish:: Beetroot has myriad of health benefits including Vitamin C and Fibre.  From an Ayurvedic perspective they are Vata Pacifying, this is because beetroots grow underground, this makes them supremely grounding and stabilizing for vata. Don't stop the Beet! 🍂 Ayurvedic Beetroot Relish Ingredients 4 beetroots 5 curry leaves 1 Tbs Ghee or Olive oil 1 tsp Yellow mustard seeds 1tsp cumin seeds 1 pinch of Asofedida (Hing) ½ cup plain yoghurt Salt to taste 🍂 Directions ~Wash beetroot and trim stems, leaving 2–3 cm intact, before cooking. ~Wrap beetroots with skin on in baking paper and roast in the oven until cooked. Approximately, 1 hour at 160 degrees. ~Remove beetroots from oven and use baking paper to scrape off skin. ~Cut the beetroots into quarters and add to blender with all the other ingredients. ~Pop relish in a glass jar and store in the fridge for up to 5 days. Delish as a side dish or served on crackers as a snack. Enjoy!

This was me a few weeks ago and now my body is forcing me to stop! 🤧 But it is a good reminder to not ignore the little signs your body is giving you before you completely break down. But cutting out the sugar and refined carbs and adding lots of fat can prevent, and even reverse, pre-dementia and early dementia. Sugar causes pre-diabetes and diabetes, which often leads to significant memory loss. ⠀ ⠀ Chronic stress takes a toll on your body and brain. Stress shrinks the hippocampus, the memory center of the brain. So, find your pause button every day and make time for some stress relief. Aim for at least 8 hours of quality sleep every night.⠀ ⠀ We now know that physical activity can prevent and even slow down the progression of cognitive decline and brain diseases like dementia. Lately I have been adding a lot of wakame and dulse flakes to my soups and slow cooked dishes to stay on top of my iodine intake. I realised after experiencing a few symptoms lately that I may have neglected my iodine a little. How amazing is our body by the way when it communicates with us Iodine in our diet is so important and not that easy to get. Its an essential element meaning our body canoot make it and we need to obtain it from food. Unfortunately Australias soils are low in iodine and back in 2009 mandatory fortification of iodine in bread and salt was introduced because it was lacking in our diets.But most of us head for the Himalayan or rock salt and avoid bread due to the gluten so this can mean we don’t get enough. . We usually associate iodine with thyroid hormones and metabolism. But its also essential for healthy ovaries, breasts, immunity, hormone balance and can help to ease PMT. Aww. Poor puppy is unwell. Bad tummy and we are not sure what's causing it. She's a super sensitive pup and @uttamjaggu was home really late last night. I woke up super anxious too because of some work related stuff. And she had a treatment yesterday, for the first time after her latest surgery. Could be any of this OR an actual stomach bug. I'm first going to give her half a day of sleep, quiet and kefir. Let's see if that fixes things. Most times it does and let's hope that's all it is this time too. I am not opposed to fermented dairy or butter—I will occasionally enjoy some yogurt, a spoonful of goat’s cheese, or ghee to cook with. But it’s not a staple for me. ⠀ ⠀ These dairy free options are not only better sources of calcium, but they also contain other great sources of nutrients. Other ways to strengthen your bones include resistance training and ensuring you have adequate vitamin D in circulation.⠀ We also know that the calcium supplements we were told to take may actually be putting calcium in our arteries instead of our bones (leading to more clogged arteries —> heart attacks, strokes). If you use a supplement for general bone health, make sure it has only 500 mg of calcium, and always take it with vitamin D, K2/K3, magnesium... Vitamin C Jellys made with Quince and Kakadu plum powder from @kakaduplumco __ Eating just four of these delicious jelly’s makes sure you are meeting if not exceeding your daily vitamin C needs with whole foods. Perfect for supporting your immune system into winter. — They are slightly sweet and tangy and delightfully rose flavoured... I am definitely eating more than 4 per day 😂 __ All you have to do is blend up 1 cup slow cooked quince (or stewed pear,fresh berries, just something for flavour) with one cup water and transfer into a saucepan slowly simmer the mixture adding in two table spoons or organic grass fed gelatine. Once the gelatine has dissolved poor the mixture back into the blender and add 4 table spoons honey( or to taste) 1/2 cup natural yogurt 1 table spoon rose water 5 table spoon Kakadu plum powder __ Blend and pour into moulds. Put in the freezer for 20 mins to set or in the fridge over night. __ 3 grams of Kakadu plum powder gives you 180% of your daily needs. 1 table spoon = 9 grams This batch yielded 60 jelly’s so at four a days that two weeks worth of yummy vitamin C lollies, perfect for kids as well as adults. 13 years ago I developed a chronic a pain disorder. On any given day I could experience crushing chest pains, aching wrists, a sore back and legs. It was so scary, at 16 years of age I didn’t know what was wrong with me. Had I caused it? Did I have cancer? Was I going to die? I don’t remember what label the paediatrician gave me but I do know I felt relief. And fear, fear that it was in my head, that I had created this pain and somehow asked for it. Looking back I know that the crushing pain was fuelled by stress, anxiety and low self worth. I developed an eating disorder to deal with all these out of control unknown feelings and emotions. From this pain I learnt so much about myself, and a passion for healing others grew. I tell you this because I know what it feels like to be scared, to feel emotional pain and seek a physical cause for it and it made me a better person. Just like it can for you ♥️ this is why I became a Nutritionist. So I could heal my body with food and nutrients that were so lacking at this time. I’ve seen this quote before. Numerous times actually. It has resonated with me as I’ve traveled this road of health, wellness and healing from my autoimmune immune disease. I saw it again a few days ago and it hit me like a ton of bricks. Being brutally honest with myself, I haven’t been willing to give up the things that made me sick. That’s a difficult to admit. I’ve taken real and meaningful steps to heal myself. And they worked. But once I started feeling better, I allowed myself to go a little off track. I gave myself an inch and I took a mile. I thought I had it figured out. I thought I had it beat. I thought I could mostly go back to the way things had been before. I fell right back into normal routines I was accustomed to before I got sick and guess what? I GOT SICK AGAIN. Yes, I want to be better. And yes, I said I would do a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g to heal myself, but at the end of the day, I wasn’t there. I wasn’t ready to make permanent changes. I realize now that I didn’t want to fully face the truth. I didn’t want things to be drastically different from my old sense of normalcy. I wanted to do some of the work, but I wasn’t willing to go all in. I didn’t want to face the fact that life is going to be different going forward. That I am forever changed. There is no going back. So I find myself staring in the mirror with the stark reality that I am the only one who can fix me. *I* have to do the work- eat whole, natural foods, heal my gut, and return my body to a non-inflamed state. *I* have to dig deep and deal with sh!t I’ve been holding onto- the need to be liked, the approval of others, the desire to be seen as perfect. *I* need to retrain my pessimistic leaning brain, alter my mindset... GROW. *I* am the only one who can make these changes.
