When I saw @gelatomessina had done a range of Drumsticks, they went straight on the shopping list. 2 reasons: Messina is just that little bit too far away to go to for an ice cream fix and I can’t eat the classic Drumstick due to the peanuts. I read their collab story about how the recipes had to be modified to suit commercial production which is understandable, but after trying the dulce de leche flavour, I think I will stick to holding out and savouring a scoop of the real thing when I get the chance🍦

In one of our surveys by our tool The Millennial Jury, consumers placed Eating Out as second only to surfing the net as a favourite pastime amongst the Millennials. It’s no wonder then that the Out-of-Home sector or Foodservice as the majority of manufacturers still call it, is proving much more buoyant than its traditional grocery counterparts. Quality, service, innovation and marketing have all helped drive more perceived value into the world of food available to us as we leave our home each morning. All the surveys say that whilst price will always be a measure of relevance it’s actually the place, the food and the people who serve us that makes the difference – no surprise! Amazing that many manufacturers either don’t have an Out-of-Home offer or if they do, still treat it as a cost-led second tier channel of trade serviced by their less dynamic account managers. Swedish company Oatly have taken the vegan world by storm, producing oat-based alternatives to dairy.  Their products are so popular that they’ve quickly become a Suma best-seller and at times we are sorry to say we have struggled to keep up with demand.  In fact the growth of plant-based demand in the UK led to “the great Oatly Barista shortage” with Oatly going on to expand to increase their manufacturing capacity.
