It is an established fact that what we eat can have a profound effect on our physical well being, but did you know that the food we eat can effect our mental well being as well? From anxiety to depression, research shows that the food you eat can have a profound effect on your mental health. So, regardless of your mental health problem, the importance of addressing your diet simply cannot be overstated. For example, there are a number of food ingredients that can cause or aggravate depression, but the number one culprit is refined sugar and processed fructose, which feed pathogens in your gut, allowing them to overtake more beneficial bacteria. Sugar also suppresses the activity of a key growth hormone in your brain called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF levels are critically low in both depression and schizophrenia. Diets high in sugar also triggers a cascade of chemical reactions in your body that promote chronic inflammation, which over the long term disrupts the normal functioning of your immune system and wreaks havoc on your brain. Other processed food ingredients that can contribute to depression and/or other mental health problems include Genetically engineered (GE) ingredients which can significantly alter your gut flora, thereby promoting pathogens while decimating the beneficial microbes necessary for optimal mental and physical health. Glyphosate— the most widely used herbicide on food crops in the world with nearly 1 BILLION pounds applied every year — has been shown to cause nutritional deficiencies, especially minerals, which are critical for brain function and mood control. Artificial food additives, especially the artificial sweetener aspartame, can wreak havoc with your brain function. Both depression and panic attacks are known potential side effects of aspartame consumption. Other additives, such as artificial colorings, are also known to impact mood. Found this locally made Jun Tea in Leavenworth this weekend. It's basically kombucha but made with green tea and honey instead of black tea and honey. #afternoontea was such a big challenge omg. I was out shopping with my mom and nan and decided to finally have this vanilla-ice McFlurry sorta thing with: kit-kat bits, snicker bits, reese’s bits, stroopwafel bits, Oreo bits and kiwi. It’s like a McFlurry but imo better cos they let you choose 6 toppings and have so much more to choose from :)) I used to have it often before my ED took control and I’m proud of myself for finally not chickening out and having it again, even though I didn’t really enjoy it and just felt anxious he whole time whilst eating it. Also cos we were on a busy street I felt judged and very self conscious and just in general wasn’t a great experience but oh well, I got though it and I’m alive . Before getting into the nutritional recommendations, it is important to understand how hair loss is defined.  In the body’s normal renewal process, many of us lose 50 to 100 hairs a day.  According to “Prescription for Natural Cures,” the average rate of growth is approximately ½ inch per month.  Losing strands of hair while brushing or taking a shower is a normal part of the renewal process; new strands of hair grow back to replace those that have been lost.  In general, hair loss poses a problem when there is noticeable thinning, or balding (this can also be a normal part of life ie.
