My lifting doesn’t include many fancy variations. To improve on benching, you have to bench a lot. To improve on squats, you have to squat a lot. The extent of my variations are pause tempo benching, incline, and the occasional Spoto press. For squats, I like to include front squats and maybe throw some pauses in here and there. I don’t use bands, chains, or boxes. To be fair, I’m also not competing anymore - or at least in the foreseeable future. I like to stick with the old-school, basic lifts because I feel they’re most effective for my body. If your body loves the fancy variations, go for it. 🙌 I’ll stick with going crazy on my pushups. ▶️ Shown are doubles with 125#. 3 sets with 2 minutes of rest. 125kg ⚪⚪⚪ ➡️ 130kg 🔴🔴🔴 This sport can literally break your heart sometimes 😭💔 Purposefully didn't post my deadlifts from Sunday cos I was so disappointed not to be able to move 130kg. But @e_l_h88 is wise and reminded me it's good to acknowledge our failures as well as our successes! After a few months of seeing strength go up and up, I had been naive in assuming my strength would always be the same or increase, when in actual fact it doesn't always work like that! Sometimes it's a bad day, week, month. Next few months will be dialling in my technique. I'm still learning the ropes with sumo, lots to work on, but also lots of potential. Next time, I will look back at this and be proud of how far I've come 💪🏼

So which is it: are you an ATHLETE or a MODEL? 🧐 (hint: there’s no wrong answer - it’s up to you!) What I mean to say is, do you want to PERFORM optimally and perhaps competitively, either based on your physique, strength, or other functional abilities... . Or do you prefer to walk down the street, turn heads and know you look the part? . Choose your own adventure. If you want to be lean all the time and have the physique most folks (including me) would kill for 🔪, you can do that. It’ll cost you: flexibility/freedom with diet, possibly social events, time and probably money, maybe some of your metabolic rate. You’ll spend a lot of time and effort restricting but you 👏🏼 will 👏🏼 look 👏🏼 incredible. Hell, you may even make some Internet money off of it. . The other option: train and eat in a way that will make you competitive. Either strong as hell, or jacked AF. It’ll cost you: maybe not having the physique year-round that you wish you did. With a side of some sneaking self-doubt when you wonder if people look at you and wonder if they can tell you lift? 🙋🏼‍♀️ . Guess what? Most athletes of iron will need to be a little “uncomfortable” in their own eyes to make optimal progress. Or at least, they won’t be ripped 365. A body can’t grow and progress at its highest potential if it isn’t fueled. . There’s no right or wrong choice - just a series of trade-offs based on YOUR goals. I went with the Athlete option and as the years go by, I get more and more comfortable with this decision and the trade-offs that come with. About 1 year ago I joined a powerlifting team (thanks to @sylva_sbc for swooping me up out of my pit). As you can see I got SO bulky. The photo on the left was probably the leanest I had ever gotten. I am around the exact same weight as I don’t change much. For a while into my PL programming I was losing a tiny amount of weight but generally I am consistently around ~124-126. I love doing what I do now. I don’t have to search for motivation to go to the gym. I don’t tirelessly kill my self trying to achieve 1 day abs. Testing my physical strengths allowed me to redirect unhealthy thoughts about how I looked on the outside. I stopped focusing on aesthetics and started focusing on what was inside of my control and that was how much fire I wanted to produce inside of me... aesthetics happened to come along for the ride 😏 ❗️ Photo on the left: lifted heavy (probably deadlift around 200, lolz) Photo on the right: lifted heavier (deadlift ~300+) ❗️ Instead of listening to society telling you lifting heavy will make you bulky, try living your own practical experience. Create your own path on what you enjoy but I promise you love, you’re capable of so much more than you think. How your body responds to any form of exercise is completely subjective to a number of different things: How intensely you’re committed to a program, your diet, your genetics (very minor impact here), But The best part? 🔸I loved myself equally in these two pictures. 🔸BUT...on the left, I was dishonest with myself and consistently cut myself short of being a more wholesome athlete. 🔸I posted this on my story and I got quite a few responses of, “what changed? I need advice.” 🔸What changed? I went from; “that was only like, half a serving..” to; “that was almost two servings.” I went from; “just make it to 45 minutes and you can leave the gym..” to; “make every movement have purpose.” 🔸I didn’t do myself any favors by lying about my intake and effort to make myself feel more successful in the short term. 🔸Wake up and attack the day like a woman possessed, absolutely obsessed with making EVERYDAY “the” day. 🔸Your body is a direct result of your discipline and self control. Be honest and don’t sell yourself short, and your results WILL come.
