Trying to run like… 😫🏃‍♀️ (tag a friend who hates cardio) . Cardio gets a bad rap. Maybe because it’s not as “in” as weightlifting. Maybe because it’s abused while dieting. Maybe because it’s just misunderstood. I don’t know. . What I do know though is that it can be just as challenging and exciting as weightlifting - you just have to learn how to do it right. Here’s a few things I’ve found helpful: 1️⃣-Warm up - if you ALWAYS feel out of breath while running, try spending an extra 10-15 minutes warming up before you start. Get your breathing in check, blow your nose, drink some water - clear them airways. 2️⃣-Keep your mind active - listen to songs you know the lyrics to, put on a podcast, if you’re living that luxe wifi life - Netflix it up. 3️⃣-Practice proper form - just like with weights - more efficient form will reduce potential for injury AND make the movement easier. Right now, I’m focusing on increasing my cadence (steps / min) and improving my upper body awareness (hello awkward arms). . My definition of fitness extends beyond just weights. Even though it’s a cardio day today, I’m still feeling the pump from yesterday’s back & bi’s routine 💪🏼😎 . So today’s #throwbackthursday thought of the day is a simple #bicep #flex throwback to yesterday’s #pump 😉🤣 . You should always feel some soreness in the muscle groups that you worked the day before. Today was my first training of the year! And even though it wasn't the best workout, I wanted to give a happy update. As some of you know I struggle with Binge Eating and have struggled with it for the past 6 years. I opened up about it, growing my knowledge on the disorder, and getting some amazing support from people near and far. I'm proud to announce, I've entered 2019 with little to no binge eating. Chest was today’s workout - with a few sets of triceps. Heave-ho and we will grow. (At least in theory.) This aging thing is really hitting home. “Help. 10 years changes so many things and while my physical change is there, who I am on the inside is what I’m the most proud of. I never could have anticipated the challenges that I would go through and the growth that would come from those challenges. I’m constantly impressed by how much I can handle that in the past would have destroyed me. The person I am on the inside is who has worked the hardest to grow in the last 10 years and I’m proud of that girl.

I love seeing a busy gym this time of year. I know it’s not fun waiting for the equipment you need or fighting harder than normal to find parking but look at all of the people that are chasing dreams and goals! I went to the gym every January from 2008-2012 with the goal of losing weight and being healthier and every year I quit. I know that March will come and things will slow back down but when you think about how many people gave up for that to be the case...it kinda changes your perspective. Be the reason people stay. Be the reason that the gym becomes less intimidating. Be the person who encourages and uplifts. Be the reason the gym stays busy all year long. Be the reason people believe in themselves. If you’re the person that like me has set a goal for change and health, you can do this. Keep going even when you don’t want to. Don’t give up. ❤️

For the people who are not able to loose there weight. 😢 it can be the worst feeling in the world to step on the scale and not see the number that you are hoping for. 😣 Difficult conversations for a coach occur after someone has been demoralized by the scale. 🤓 But fear not! There are lot of reasons that the numbers might fluctuate. Just because your weight is a few pounds more then usual, it doesn't mean that you have gained fats. 😁 This is one of the main reasons that I highly recommend not weighing yourself every single day.... 👍 weighing yourself once a week is plenty and will more accurately record your journey. If you are going to weigh yourself everyday, then keep track of your averages and don't get too disappointed with daily fluctuations. 💪 spend your time focusing on your daily process and not your daily results. 👉 The buttom line: don't let your daily and weekly fluctuations in body weight discourage you. It's totes normal. Because of my lower-spinal injury I can't do some pretty basic bent-over exercises, depending on the weight or range of motion. Heavy tricep kickbacks are one of those exercises, so I use an inclined bench to preserve my back. There is almost always a way to work around an injury; find it and keep training. I’ve been seeing so many people set a “word” for their year. At first I thought I could never think of just one word that would encompass everything I wanted to accomplish this year. The more I’ve thought about it I’ve decided on a word. PURPOSE. I want to spend more time more purposefully. I want to create purpose within my relationships. I want to establish purpose for what I do here in this little community and outside of it. I want to live my life on purpose instead of just letting the days pass me by.
