In the endo world we’re told we have estrogen dominance, so we assume we have lots of excess estrogen. In fact, this is not always the case - not at all. Estrogen dominance simply means that your estrogen to progesterone ratio is skewed! If here you see a healthy E:P ratio at the end, note that it should be balanced. This means your estrogen dominance could look like any of the other three: ➖estrogen really high, OR ➖estrogen levels totally normal but progesterone low, OR . ➖estrogen levels actually low and progesterone levels really low. . . See, any one of these could cause a host of separate symptoms, and why the goal of “reducing estrogen” levels at any cost may be the opposite of what your own body needs. Didn’t know? The sacrum is utterly important to maintain healthy alignment because the uterus suspends from it via ligaments! So if you’re tipping your pelvic under (sitting) or forward (here) your sacrum is always pulling your uterus around - painful 😣 . “Our habit of sitting has created hips that can no longer extend, and what often happens instead is the movement to get the leg behind you is transferred to the lower back. Or, the knees bend more than necessary so the foot goes behind you when you walk, but the thigh itself doesn’t.” . @alignment_rescue demonstrates how we can “walk” by tipping the pelvis instead of actually extending our legs. This so resonates. I think all of us endo sufferers deal with this to a certain extent, and is something I believe contributes greatly to our disease. Feeling deeply is a blessing, but in our modern world where we're confronted with a trillion negative inputs EVERY day, day after day, it can lead to sickness of the deepest kind. My own remedy decades ago was to pretend I was made of steel... I think that made it worse. . So feel! Never let that caring ability go! But if you find yourself sick with worry, grief, or sadness, know that you can control more of the input stream than you realize. The larger world will go on, you can rejoin at any time, but often it's simply best to turn it off. Turn off the news, the social media, the constant flood of stimulation, and instead feel deeply what your body was meant to: love, family, friends, community, and being outdoors. Unplugged. Got outside this weekend. The husband and I packed up the car and spent the weekend in the woods. You could say it was a bit chilly. I grew up tent camping, our parents took us frequently. I loved getting out in the fresh air. The act of setting up camp was always a thrill. There's something about carving out a temporary home for ourselves under the pine trees that soothes my soul. I only just realized that it had been 2 years since I'd gone camping. The last time I'd gone camping was a week before my laporoscopy. I was a bundle of nerves during that camping trip, terrified by the pain in my abdomen and pelvis. Nervous but so hopeful to get that diagnosis. I remember laying down and looking up at the stars, choked with so many emotions as I ran through the preparations I was to go through over the next couple of days. Pack a hospital bag, pick up pain meds and so on. A week later I was waking up in a hospital bed, conscious but unable to move as I heard the nurse tell my husband that I had Endometriosis. Validation ripped through me, I felt triumphant for about two seconds before the realization that I had a disease set in. Disease. The word haunted me. The next year would be the hardest of my life as I had to relearn everything about myself. What foods I could eat. How I could move. How to be intimate with my husband. How to cope with the pain, and how to plan for this new future. It looked bleak at the time. Until I realized I had a choice. Until I made the decision that I refused to let this disease define me. I swear, making that one decision changed everything. It's been a long two years, and now I'm so very grateful to be where I am today. This camping trip, I looked up at the stars free of pain and instead of making surgery plans I planned the future of my business with my husband. The business that will hopefully empower other women struggling with their health and get they're lives back. Intuitive eating happens when your body is attuned to the flavors of real, whole foods and can naturally guide you to eat what you need. No counting calories, carbs, nutrients, nada. . . To double check I was getting enough nutrients for homeboy’s milk and me I tracked my own food choices for two days and found my body is guiding me well. Yes, I was surprised to see I ate 3900 calories one day (that’s a lot of energy) but I guess I need it right now. If I told myself no meat, low fat, no carbs, only raw, or whatever, I’d be missing out on what my body needed. If I forced myself to limit calories I’d slide into a nutrient deficient state- not good for healing postpartum OR from endo. . That’s why I eat from land and sea, animal and plant. I let my body guide me in all her wisdom without scientists, the latest “study”, or strict diet mantras. There is no diet for everyone, there’s just what your body needs right meow :) And even that will change too. Reader question per my last post: what do I mean about engaged lower abdominals and relaxed upper? Good question :) Basically, this: your chest cavity is NOT your abdominal cavity is NOT your pelvic cavity, even tho they rest on each other. The upper abdomen and ribs need to have room to open and breathe, which is why tummy sucking and tummy flexing lead you to shallow chest breathing (another endo-arch enemy). The strength for sitting and standing comes from the lower abdominals of the pelvis. . See how I’m taking a breath and my ribs are opening really easily? See how I do that without the breath shooting into my pelvic cavity (ie uterus, ie lower abs), and it doesn’t poof out at all? See how my whole tummy isn’t tensed or flexed so I’m not forced to chest breathe? Good 😎 . I get asked a lot about how to increase core strength when core “workouts” induce flairs. One incredible way is learning how to sit without a chair, the arch-nemesis of endometriosis. It seems easy, but see if you can do it for more than 30 seconds without shoving your torso into a bunch of odd positions 😘😘 Goal: rib cage aligned with abdomen. Think sitting “tall” from your sits bones through crown rather than sitting “straight” with a big arched back. . See, your core should BE the proverbial chair through the engagement and strength of your lower abdominals. The easiest first step to protecting your uterus from loafing (akin to punching your lady parts) is to stop loafing in all your daily activities. You may be loafing getting out of bed, off the couch, even off the loo. That’s a lot of uterus beatings! Instead, use your arms to help you up instead of tummy pressure. . How do you know if you’re “loafing” without seeing it? Pay attention. If you’re holding your breath or grunting while getting up, you’re probably loafing under cover. “Loafing” is the made up term for incorrect core engagement that makes it look loaf of bread is sitting in your stomach. If you’re doing ab-activities and see the loaf, it means you’re not strong enough - so stop. There is always hope 🌻 1 month ago I sat groaning in the bath at 1am, completely overpowered by the intensity of the pain that was coming in waves, and devastated that here I was again, living this reality, despite everything I’ve tried.
