Happy Saturday ! Cheers to the weekend. I love eating super healthy and avoiding foods that will cause discomfort. But I love a glass of Pinot Grigio. There are two types of drinkers. The one that gets super wasted and a little messy ! I’m not going to lie that used to be me. I was the messy drinker. I have learned to control my alcohol intake and I must say life is a little richer. The second type of drinker is the one that knows when to say enough. That’s definitely me now. It took me a while to realize drinking doesn’t mean “get crazy drunk”. I love having one glass of wine while catching up with friends and calling it night. BROCCOLI CRANBERRY QUINOA SALAD I'm pretty well known in my family and my community for my quinoa salads. Such an easy side dish for parties and get togethers. This is a new one I made up and brought to my uncle Joey's house the other night (yes, I'm named after him). How to make it: Cook 2 cups of quinoa and set aside to cool. Toast 3/4 cup sliced almonds in the oven Chop one head of broccoli very small (rice it) (about 2 cups once chopped) Chop about 2 cups Persian 🥒 or any cucumber is fine Add the veggies to the quinoa and add 1 cup dried cranberries, some feta, and the toasted almonds. The dressing: super simple! EVOO, 🍋 juice (about 1.5 lemons, juice from a lime 🍈 and some Himilayan PS Watch me make it on my stories! Happy Thursday, everyone! #bowlsbyjoey

Dip it good! e INGREDIENTS 2 bananas 3/4 cup pancake mix 2/3 cup water Coconut oil, for frying Maple syrup, for serving (optional) INSTRUCTIONS Cut the two bananas in half, and then slice each half into thirds lengthwise to make 12 slices of bananas In a medium bowl, prepare the pancake batter according to package instructions and mix well. Different day, different salad bowl:) There’s a formula to making these whole food bowls and it doesn’t matter if you are vegan or paleo— the formula is the same. Step 1- choose a protein. Chicken, tempeh, grass fed beef etc... Step 2- choose at least 3 different veggies. Bonus points if you include a leafy green 🌱 Step 3- choose a clean carb. I went with cauliflower/squash rice here, but you could do yam, rice, or quinoa. Step 4- add a healthy fat. 99% of the time I stick with avocado. Step 5- drizzle with a delicious homemade dressing. I’m obsessed with using tahini as the base but tonight I made a green goddess dressing using cilantro, lime, garlic and hemp oil:) This ensures the meal ticks all the healthy boxes, is customized to your best way of eating, and is easy to meal plan and prep ahead. Scenario: you start a new diet and cut out sugar, alcohol, red meat, and most carbs. You do pretty well for the first week but soon you’re craving a burger and a cold beer. Everyone else is enjoying their summer and you feel deprived. Inevitably, you give in, and one meal turns into an all out binge... you may as well enjoy all the foods you can’t have now that you’ve fallen off the wagon anyways. You’ll start back Monday... • • That scenario is more common than you think and it’s the primary reason you’re not losing weight. What if you took a different approach? Instead of focusing on removing “bad” foods from your diet, why not try adding healthy foods? • • Start with adding 1-2 cups of vegetables to every meal. Then add a source of protein. And some healthy fat. Soon you'll find that these healthy foods are replacing pizza, French fries and donuts without giving it much thought (because the more lean meats and veggies you eat, the less appetite you have for other foods). • • This is a great way to start eating better without feeling deprived (or guilty when you do include some less nutrient rich food foods).
