Being able to defend yourself is a must, especially if you are women. After all, we live in a society where it isn’t safe for a woman to walk down a street, or even live in her own house. I’ve been attending classes by RAD and I’ve been learning the importance of keeping myself safe. I posted this in my stories a few days ago to help other people and maybe encourage some to take self-defense classes if they haven’t already. Classes will be held monthly through UNLV. Please check the UNLV Police website for more information. They will continue to offer classes if attendance is around 15 women. The lieutenant want to offers advanced self-defense training next year. Classes are also offered by RAD for men, too! I’m not promoting violence. After all it is Domestic Violence Awareness Month so this is fitting, right? Why does it seem like I’ve been restricted on IG...

Does anyone else have this problem?! 🙋🏻‍♀️ . I don’t take nearly as many pictures as I should. I don’t post nearly as much as I should. . Because it’s really important to me that I’m present — experiencing everything fully. . So then I forget to take pictures. I did so many fun things over the weekend — a festival, workshops, amazing dinners, etc. . There must be a way that I can document my experiences AND be fully present? . Like everything else, a new perspective would help! 💫

If you told me 10 years ago, that at almost 49 years old, I would feel the most confident I have ever felt in my whole life, I would’ve laughed at you and I honestly would’ve thought you were an idiot. ⭐️CLIENT PROGRESS⭐️ - I have had the pleasure of working with my client John for the past 5 weeks and he has made phenomenal progress. John is so eager to learn and is always looking to learn. After living in metro Atlanta for eight years, we moved back home to Bowling Green in 2007. The main reason is that we wanted to be closer to family again. We had started having babies and the miles just seemed sooooo long. There’s really nothing like family when you need to be bailed out of a tough spot (i.e. sleep deprivation, too many little people per adult, when your a/c goes out during a heat wave, or when your battery dies in the Target parking lot)....so we packed up our little fam and moved home. And, on days like today, I’m reminded of what a solid decision that was. @melissa_rudloff came to my rescue (as she always seems to do for me and for so many others) when I was stranded with a dead battery. 💀 Love her so much!!!! Thank you, Mel! Also, I want to note that four separate gentlemen kindly offered to help us while we waited for help. My faith in humanity was restored!

Have you ever thought that you can’t exercise because you don’t have time? 🕰 Couldn’t eat healthy because you hate vegetables? 🤢 Or maybe you’ve been struggling with “gymphobia” because you don’t have name brand gym clothes or the “perfect” body. Don’t worry! Everyone has had these thoughts! Even Olympic athletes had to start somewhere. 🏋🏻‍♂️ Often, we focus too much on accomplishing a huge goal, when in reality, reaching small goals is what leads to our big goal achievements. The big goal could be to exercise an hour a day for 6 days a week. However, jumping right into the deep end of the pool 🏊🏻‍♀️ is hard and usually ends with us crawling out, struggling for air, and refusing to ever try THAT again. 🙅🏻‍♀️ Starting out in the shallow end and moving towards the deep end (in this case, moving from 15 minutes to 30 minutes to 45 minutes of exercise a day) teaches us how to comfortably adjust to a new, healthy lifestyle and helps us feel confident, not overwhelmed, in progressing toward our big goals. Although this may be the “slow” option, we have to remember that we are looking for long lasting health, not a quick short-term fix! 💪🏻 So start exercising 15 minutes a day if 60 is too much right now! 🕑 Mix some broccoli into your cheesy potato casserole if you can’t stand the taste of it alone! 🥦 And don’t worry about what you look like at the gym (I promise you everyone else is focusing on their own workout).The key here is to get started because something is better than nothing! 💯💯💯 Challenge Question: What small thing can you start today to help you get closer to achieving your big goals?? 💭🧠 #getstarted #workout #move #warmup #warmupexercise #training #tuesday #success #happy #morningmotivation #healthylifestyle #healthymind #muscles #prep #letsgo #beginnerworkout #lifting #cardio

To the man who took my 111 call. Thank you for doing the job that you do. Thank you for saying yes one day, all those years ago, to a job with Police Communications. On the day I called, it was an ordinary day for you, yet no ordinary day for me. You answered with a simple “Hello” and kept asking questions to keep me from becoming more panicked. As I told you in the worst way imaginable that my father had died by Suicide, I asked you to stay on the phone and you replied with “yes I can stay on the phone or you can hang up, it’s totally up to you”, when you said that, you bubble wrapped me in a moment of sheer trauma. You made me feel less alone and your voice stayed with me until the emergency services arrived. Yesterday, I got to give you a hug and say thank you face to face. You told me with tears in your eyes that you feel as though, after a year, you now finally have closure from a call that was sure to haunt you when you thought about it. I told you about how we’re doing as a family, what happened when the call ended and how grief has impacted all of us. You now know how thankful I am for your voice, your skills and the job that you do. I am now a Police Communicator myself and I feel honoured and really privileged to be working alongside you. To all of those that are sitting on the other end of emergency and non-emergency calls, know that your job does not go unnoticed. Just because we don’t see you walking our streets in uniform or sitting in Police cars, Ambulances, or Fire Trucks, we still know you are there and we appreciate you. A lot of emergency workers don’t get thanked, they are left with the “what if’s”, the never ending questions and the heartache. If you have the opportunity to thank an emergency worker, please do so with your whole heart 💛 #grateful #thankful
