I've been trying to bulk for a couple months now, I'm trying to clean bulk so it has been extremely hard for me to gain the weight I want. I couldn't seem to get up to 125 no matter how hard I tried, like I'd always get super close but never too it. I just recently started this post workout called SiselRIPT and it's amazing!! This is the lower body resistance portion of the workout I posted yesterday thanks to Dave @nptihouston. Still working on knee flexion ( 6-1/2 months post-op and my knee extension is great). Being mindful so keeping my feet (and head 🙄) grounded (closed chain). This entire workout was challenging since I performed a core routine before I did upper and lower body exercises. Moving quickly with minimal to no rest. . . 60 seconds of each exercise at a 2-0-2 Tempo 4 sets (time under tension) 1. Dumbbell Squats - 15lbs in each hand-working my way up! 2. Leg Presses 3. Try this lil ladder burnout to end your next 🍑 workout! You may not be able to walk the next day, but that’s not the point here. . Perform banded hip bridges and knee banded hip abductions starting at 15. This means you’ll perform the first exercise for 15 reps, followed by the second exercise for 15 reps - then the first exercise for 14, followed by the second exercise for 14 - and so on until you finish 1 rep of each with no resting! 😅

This exercise helps with lower back pain, improving your squat, and helps build the booty🍑 . ✖️Tight core: every exercise I post will have this tip but it's important and a good reminder! ✖️Feet hip width apart: this will engage stabilization muscles ✖️Knees at 90 degrees: Feet too far forward = hamstring activation. Feet too far back = quad activation. ✖️Dip, then lock out your hips (bend & snap😂) ✖️Squeeze your glutes: this will activate your butt muscles

Yes! Finally got into the #gym. Missed 6 days. That's way too many off days for me. Mentally drives me #nuts missing so many days. I find the gym to be more of a #hobby...? I definitely look forward to my hour of me time. I enjoy it, I don't dread it or think of it as work or something I HAVE TO do. I definitely get enjoyment out of it. Today was a little different. Did one circuit to warm up and then just did #deads, #hipbridges and #squats. Some of my #favorite movements at the gym. If you want to build a strong caboose, here are 4 big-business, must-include exercises: # 1️⃣ Hip Thrusters - Notice how Mel’s chin is tucked (which helps round the spine and keep the lower back out of the equation.) Drive through the heels (not your toes) and don’t be afraid to move some legit weight. # 2️⃣ Glute Bridges - Similar to the hip thrust but lying on the floor which limits to range of motion but makes for a slightly easier set up. Same story with the chin and heels. Helpful to hug the knees during the set up to get your heels as close to your butt as possible. # 3️⃣ Frog Pumps - Weighted or unweighted, a solid way to polish off the glutes and target the lateral fibers of the budunkadunk. Often programmed with higher reps at a faster tempo. # 4️⃣ Bulgarian Split Squats - While traditional split squats can (and should) be more quad dominant, elevating the rear foot and keeping the front shin vertical makes this a far more glute dominant exercise. Try to keep your weight over the front heel and use your rear leg more like a kickstand than a prime mover. # Hope that’s helpful. Need some ideas of workouts you can do through the holidays that don’t require a lot of equipment? This tri-set of legs only requires a dumbbell and some floor space. I’m working solely on 1 feature of my inversions- HIP CONTROL. One of my favorite workouts to do at home when I can't make it to the gym. As you can see, my support team cheering me on(aka my cat and toddler by my face). I use the resistance band between my legs and keep my legs spread during these hip bridges. At the gym I do elevated hip bridges with 25lb weights on my pelvis. @mattigan doesn’t like for me to post my hip bridge shots, and I’ll remove it if he asks me to do so, but this is my mood today when I realize the strides I’ve made in 2 years. His company Christmas party is coming up this Friday and two years ago, I cried getting ready for that party. I had gone to the store and bought a pair of pants in what I thought was my size, only to get home and discover they didn’t come close to buttoning. I was devastated. We were headed to this party with his new work people and I had no clothing that fit. I remember vividly what I wore: Jeans that were threadbare in the thighs from my thighs rubbing together, a shirt that barely fit, a vest that I couldn’t zip. My sweet mom gave me some jewelry to put on to try and make me feel more confident. I was so embarrassed, embarrassed for my husband to be seen with me by his new coworkers. He deserved a beautiful woman on his arm that night, and all he had was a frumpy woman who had stopped caring about herself. I’m so glad that I finally hit rock bottom and decided to care about myself and love me no matter what. I’m far from perfect, but I am enough! I love working out and getting strong and seeing just what God had planned for this body! I’m so far from where I was and I’m so excited to spend Friday night with his coworkers, on the arm of my favorite human. One movement that we use often is a hip bridge. We use this is our warm up process as well as within the workout as a loaded exercises. This exercise, when done correctly, provides true hip extension which is crucial in any athletic movement. If you can’t extend at the hip then you won’t be as explosive or powerful as you could potentially be. From and injury prevention standpoint, a lack of true hip extension can create overuse of the low back and hamstrings. Mastering basics like these is the key to proper, efficient athletic movement.

My new coach @roadrunner309 and I agree that I should work to get stronger in the off-season including lifting weights 🏋🏻‍♀️ So I started a program with the help of my husband @e.j.pohl who made sure I used good form. Today’s session in my story. Planning to use a combination of High Performance Lifting by Jason Fitzgerald, a program for runners that I’d subscribed to for my last training cycle but then didn’t do 🤷🏻‍♀️ plus some exercises and drills from Running Rewired by Jay Dicharry which is a book I highly recommend 📖

Back on practicing front squats to help with the clean and jerk movement. . Used to hate these due to mobility issues but personally front squats is a top movement that will expose any weak areas you have wether it be tight lats, hips, wrists even down to your calf’s. . Anyways switching between back squats and front squats are a good way to change things up with the follow up exercise being hip bridges to activate the glutes/hamstrings since I’m in a cave editing videos all day on my ass. 🤦🏽‍♂️ . At 10am on a Sunday you can’t always find a barbell available nor do you feel like wasting time setting up after circling the gym 10 times so swapped barbell hip thrusts with dumbbell weighted single leg bridges! Another option I like instead of the barbell for thrusts is using the leg extension which you’ll get people staring and thinking you have no idea how to use the machine but if you can get past that it’s a great option with nice padding for your hips ☺️ Key things to focus on with SL bridges is driving through your heel and making sure your hips don’t rotate. Placement of leg off ground can vary as long as you are not swinging and using momentum. I like to do single leg glute exercises to give the muscles a bit more isolation and knowing my left side is weaker right now due to a lower leg injury this helps me work the sides individually and keep track of strength progress. Hip bridges are one of my favorite exercises! Besides the fact that they will help make your butt look great in your favorite pair of jeans, 😊they are awesome for your body! . Hip bridges get your glutes FIRED UP which means you’re activating the muscles in your posterior chain (back side of your body). When you do them properly, they can help to reduce lower back and knee pain over time. . In fact, if you’ve been sitting for a little while, hip bridges are a great way to rejuvenate that lower back and get you focused on your posture again. . Here’s how to do the perfect hip bridge: . * Lay on your back. Keep your back flat (tailbone tucked under), and knees bent while keeping arms at your sides on the mat. * Then, tighten your glutes and core and lift your bottom and lower back off the floor (as one unit) by pushing through your heels. * Hold for a few seconds, and then slowly lower yourself down. * Repeat and do as many as you can for the given time. Working out with friends is da best! 👭 Especially ‘cause you get to complain to each other about how sore you are in the days following 🍑👵🏼🤣⠀ .⠀ Last Sunday my besite @dr.mermaid invited me to join her for a lower body workout inspired by @kaylaitsines ⠀ .⠀ We did 2x 7min circuits twice, and I substituted & scaled some movements because I haven't been doing much strength training recently with all the half marathon training. ⠀ .⠀ But it reminded me how I miss strength training, and ooooh man was I sore on Monday & Tuesday - every time I bent over or sat down my glutes and hammys were like, hellooooooo! 👋 ...I’m still feeling them today actually.⠀ .⠀ Want to try it? 😃 ⠀ .⠀ Complete as many rounds of the following in 7 minutes. Rest 1min. Then repeat (or alternate with another circuit). Ps don’t forget to warm up for all these jumps and stretch afterwards!⠀ .⠀ 🌟20 V-ups: Lillie chose to do these weighted 'cause she's a boss. I did body weight and that was still tough! Plus these videos were taken after we did 2 rounds of each circuit 😫⠀ .⠀ 🌟30 Weighted Hip bridges: kettlebells can be easier to balance than dumbbells but sometimes it’s nice not to spend as much time setting up! ⠀ .⠀ 🌟20 Jump Squat Lunge combo: wowee these are killer! I started with full range touching my lunging knee to the ground through the first circuit and scaled to half lunges the second time around!⠀ .⠀ 🌟20 Back squats: 45# never felt so heavy! 🤪 Make sure to get your hips under the weight and squeeze that booty on the way up!⠀ .⠀ 🌟15 High box jumps: we used 20” but please scale to a lower height or step ups if you’re newer to this. HIP THRUST PROGRESSIONS The single leg hip thrust is one of the main glute exercises I prescribe for my runners. Here are the 3 progressions of the exercise to ensure isolated glute motor unit recruitment and subsequent strength development: 1. Double leg hip bridges- Make sure it’s ONLY the glutes you feel working (NOT quads, lower back or hamstrings) before progressing to the next level. Perform for sets of 10-15. 2. Single leg hip bridges- This is a big step from level 1, because with only leg you’re essentially doubling the load of the exercise. Do sets of 8 and once again, you should feel the burn on the side of the working glute, without contribution from any other muscle. 3. Single leg hip thrusts- This is the final and most challenging progression before adding weight. Keep a vertical shin, neutral spine and hips aligned horizontally. .
