When you move, you feel better ✔️ ↘️ Movement and exercise is intrinsically rewarding if used appropriately. You are rewarded by feeling good mentally and physically. Energy levels during the day, sleep quality, mental clarity, emotional/psychological balance, physical capacity...these are all rewards from just moving your body on a regular basis. 💊 If exercise could be packed into a pill, it would be the single most widely prescribed and beneficial medicine in the nation - Dr.Robert Butler. ❓So why do people not do it? ↘️ The hardest part is getting started and building a habit/lifestyle around it. After that, the reward you feel from doing it takes over. So I'll be sure to soak up as much VITAMIN D as I can 😅 This summer has been amazing 🤗 🇬🇷 Been to Greece 3 times 🇸🇪 Sweden once 🇨🇾 One quick trip to Cyprus 🏡 Bought my own home 🏗 Started making good progress with the properties 💫 With exciting projects in the pipeline . . . I will be prioritising my training and fitness when I get back! For the past 16 months, I haven't been consistent with it at all. Warm Spicy Lamb Stew | I’ve been drooling over this recipe in @bonappetitmag since it arrived in our mailbox. I took that as a sign. After being a vegetarian for a year and beginning to listen to my body’s desire for protein, iron (hello anemia!) and other nutrients in meat, I recognized this longing as a need. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ I was so grateful to grab one of the last cuts of lamb from local farmer Pine Knob Organic farm before they transition over to their newest venture. Eating meat especially from industrialized farms is problematic environmentally for its high emissions + environmental degradation. Meat consumption at our current rates is accelerating climate change but I do believe a balance can be achieved by sourcing local, sustainable and organic meat every so often. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ That aside, this meal is a perfect combination of savory + sweet + spicy. It feels strengthening, warming, nourishing and a little bit luxurious. AND it was fairly simple to make. With onions, garlic + harissa, this stewed with a cinnamon stick + coriander seeds for the past day and was topped with green olives, more harissa, mint yogurt + toasted cauliflower. It feels like a kind act to honor my body’s need while engaging in greater conversation around the connection between food + the environment. 🤔 || Are you okay? || 🤔 How many of you have automatically answered this question in the past with ‘yeah thanks you?’ just because you don’t want to talk about how you’re really feeling or don’t want to make your loved ones feel awkward or share your burden? 🙋‍♀️ I certainly have! 😳 If you are guilty of doing this as well, then I want you to know it is OK to not be ok right now, because you will be 🌸 It is OK to feel sad or irritated or fed up for no reason some days because guess what... you’re human! 👏 Just because it may seem like you have your life together and you 'should' be happy, doesn't necessarily mean you are. Whilst I believe it is important we don’t sit and have a self-pity party every day I also believe it is important to acknowledge and respect our feelings and allow ourselves to feel them and process them! 💛 Feeling a certain way doesn’t change who you are and your thoughts don’t define you 💕 So next time someone that cares about you asks ‘are you okay?’ take a moment to process how you are actually feeling and answer truthfully 😌 Never, *ever* be afraid to make someone else feel awkward by saying you’re not okay and try to ignore that voice in your head that tells you you're a burden. You're not ✨ There’s this stigma that we have to be happy and chirpy and cheerful all the damn time and it’s just not realistic! You're allowed to feel tired. You're allowed to feel sad. You're allowed to feel angry, confused, lost, empty etc. But don't allow yourself to go through it alone. When you have really bloody amazing friends and loved ones, they will understand and they will support you through it ❤️ . 💓 Happy Tuesday Darlings 💓 . . . I have got so many things to do, and so many lists, that the gym is having to take a back seat once again. When I'm there I think about all the work I've got to do and when I'm working I'm thinking Ooo, it would be good to train today 😅 Do you have that conversation with yourself?! For the next few months I have got to give my work 100% but hopefully I can squeeze a few workouts in once I've got the majority of my to-do list under control! . . . I've been getting ready for dinner party season 🥂 I will be hosting my very first dinner party in my house, which means it will be the first time using the dining room 🙌🏼 (4 months after moving in 😅) . . . I've just randomly placed things in baskets under the console table for now, so I will probably rejig those before my first official dinner party in 10 days. I also have a couple of pictures I'm hoping to get up on the wall before then. . . . There are so many things you don't think about though when it's just you eating. Have I got enough place mats?! Should I use plates or bowls?! What glasses should I use? Should I have a centrepiece?! Buffet style food or plated food?! And the all important question what should I cook to show off my culinary genius?! 🤣🤣 No pressure! I think I'll rope mum in to help 😇 . . .

🌰 ACTIVATE 🌰 . . . Whipping up another batch of activated nuts! This time I did pecans and peanuts 😋 They were long soaking yesterday, and slow drying over night. I have been experimenting with creating homemade peanut butter using the activated nut as they are easier to digest. But I can't seem to get the smooth consistency that I want, and I'm too scared that if I keep my food processor on for too long she will die on me 😂 Maybe when I can afford a super duper one, will I be able to create my oh so desired activated nut butters 🤗 . . . Have you got a great recommendation for a food processor?! . . .

GROCERY SHOPPING | Dont you just love it when you have a great independant grocery store near you? I personally love shopping at SMBS in East Dulwich, it’s not big but it’s packed with produce you won’t find in many other places and they are so knowledgeable about foods. This time I got organic kale, sprouts, tender stem 🥦 and 🍆. Can’t live without the purple sauerkraut from @bottlebrushferments which I am still addicted to 😂. Some of us have already realised how unbelievably precious good health is. Even if you’re currently healthy and happy, it’s worth taking time regularly, and spending the money to try and protect it. This is in fact how my passion for holistic health started: I hit rock bottom, and turned to #reflexology which strengthened me enough that I was able to start working again. Reflexology is a great treatment to help strengthen your entire system, and keep you in as good a condition as possible 👣

There was some interest on my instastories last night about my first jackfruit experiment, so I thought I would give you an update this morning. It’s the first time I’ve tried cooking this interesting fruit. I actually love its slightly rubbery texture! It’s actually one of the world’s largest fruits - I read that some of them can grow up to 100 pounds! You’ve probably seen them as a veggie option on a few restaurant menus because they are so…meaty! They are also quite nutrient dense, rich in B-vitamins, vitamin C, minerals, and quercitin, one of my favourite antioxidants. They are also high in fibre, and some studies indicate that it can inhibit the growth of yeast…I can get behind that! The only thing to watch for is that they contain fructose, so mind your serving size if this is something you suspect you don’t absorb very well (yes, you can test for it). Also it isn’t very high in protein, in case you were looking at it as a protein replacement. My research indicates that jackfruits are pretty safe for those of us with #sibo (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth), so that’s why I finally decided to try it. I followed @nikibakes_uk_ recipe for cooking the jackfruit, which you can find on her blog - she is an amazing recipe developer. Of course I made a few changes because I can’t help myself, and I didn’t have exact ingredients. Basically, I rinsed and cooked the jackfruit in: avocado oil, coconut milk, tomato sauce, and it was seasoned with cumin/coriander, smoky paprika, salt, and coconut aminos. Niki, I was nervous before I followed your instruction! I think #jackfruit has so much potential, and is easy to prepare for a quick lunch or dinner. I have not researched the food politics of jackfruit, which is important to me, but I do intend to. What do you think about it? Have you tried it yet?
