I’m a dream chaser. I surround myself with people that are like minded. Those of you that laugh at me about my dreams and aspirations, are foolish, and at the same time I’m thankful for that. - I don’t know about those that are taking the time to read this, but I like to set unrealistic dreams. By setting these unrealistic dreams, I am able to push myself outside my comfort zone and embrace the never ending battles and obstacles that come with it. - Ever since joining this team in @1stphorm, I have been able to surround myself with likeminded people. We all hustle, we all grind, we all embrace the never settle attitude. - When you can find a team like that, nothing can stop you. This picture is not just a picture. But in my eyes it’s a beginning to a great bond, and relationship. How many of you take “Rest Days”. . We however all should take a rest day! . Yeah I know it’s hard to just take a day and not do anything. But, that’s not what I would recommend either! . By rest day.. I mean a day away from the weights, a day away from that long cardio session, etc. . So why should you take a day away from the weight room? . 1. Injury Prevention. Takings day off prevents your body from overuse. It slows all the little things you don’t even notice in your body heal up. If you push to hard without a break, your joints will suffer and that’s when injury happens. . 2. Muscles Need Rest. When you lift weights you’re essentially tearing muscle fiber. So without rest. You are just going to keep rating those fibers up without allowing the muscles to repair. So rest them up! . 3. Your Performance Won’t Dip ! A lot of people think taking a day or two off will cause them to lose their “gains”. But let me tell you how wrong you are. It takes two weeks of non-activity before you start losing on your performance. So a day or two off won’t hurt you at all, it will make you feel stronger when you go back. . 4. Sleep. When you train everyday without rest, your body is fighting to recover even more. So the over training will cause you to have bad sleep, or no sleep at all. So take a few days to get that needed sleep for optimum performance. . 5. Immune System. During periods of heavy activity our immune systems constantly try to repair our muscles and joints. If we don’t give them a day with no activity when will the immune system get the time to catch up? . 6. Mental Edge. Sometimes we workout so much we don’t have that fire to crush it like at the beginning. So taking a rest will rekindle that fire. It will help you no longer feel burnt out and be ready to go 110% again! . Just like working out helps build muscle. Rest days help build muscle as well. So plan accordingly to allow yourself to get that rest so you can achieve your goals and feel good the entire journey! . . #iam1stphorm #bkofitness

TIP OF THE DAY!! It’s not going to be easy. In fact, it’s going to be incredibly hard. It will challenge everything about who you are. But if you can do it, at the end of that journey you will be fundamentally a different person. . Form > Weight. Form is so important. Even a slight change in position can alter your body and change the muscle fibers being activated. Like most people, I struggle with getting a thick upper chest. The way we set up for the lift plays a big roll. Your body will automatically shift the tension to your strongest area. While performing incline presses, most of us arch our back way too much that an incline becomes a flat press. . Next time, try contracting your abs. This lowers the angle of your chest and forces your upper chest fibers to activate. This makes moving heavy weight a lot harder, so go lighter and work your way up from there. . WANT TO LEARN MORE? A little something about making excuses or adapting and overcoming. Here are few movements from my quad session today along with some showing them off (they aren't quite ready yet but will be). Ok so first thing, no mom I'm not working out in underwear, they are really shorts. Let's talk a lot training for a second as you can see I'm squatting on a vertical Smith machine. As effective as a free squat? Probably not. But due to a total knee replacement four years ago and lack of mobility in my right knee I tend to hinge to the left causing my left quad to take a majority of the load, squatting on a Smith machine allows me to lean back into the bar equaling out my leg pressure...I never go super heavy (405) at most, I try to really focus of pushing blood volume to the muscle so today I hit 5 sets of 10-12 reps chasing a pump. On all of my movements I try to focus on keeping tension on the muscle and squeezing. As you can see there is a huge difference in size from my left leg to my right which I dont usually showcase but today I am. Now i said all of that to say this...most everybody who was an athlete or has been training for any amount of time probably has some kind of injury or trouble area, bad shoulder, back, hip, knee, whatever .....you can either use that as a crutch and an excuse as to why you can't or wont work on it (which excuses are lies we tell ourselves to justify something by the way) ....or we can find a way to switch things up and work around it, through it. I see guys with amputated limbs in the gym killing it so really those excuses we have are truly a crutch a security blanket for ourselves. As for me I choose to work around it, through it, figure another way out...with the help of my coach @witnessresults_ryan and also going to see @drjmart_nxt every week we are working through it....from muscle scraping, deep tissue massage, dry needling, we will get it figured out....will my right leg ever be 100% to my left? Maybe not but it certainly will not be due to an excuse or a lie I'm telling myself. Chicago Spartan super/sprint weekend was my first Spartan of the year, it was a lot of fun and MUDDY! Didn't finish as well as I wanted to, but finished in the top half of the men's elite field both days which isn't too bad. Only had to do 30 burpees Saturday, on the tire flip which I've never failed but couldn't keep my feet under me due to mud. Didn't fail any obstacles today!! Life’s been hectic as sh*t lately, so of course I’ve had my fair share of energy drinks to keep me rolling with the punches, like everyone does 😂 - - I started to realize that I’d wake up almost in a haze and feel super unmotivated until I got some caffeine in me - - Now caffeine is an easy, cheap fix, but I don’t want to rely on it.
