Ok, so finding out that an injury I sustained when I was 16 has led to all my back problems, knee problems, dropped pelvis and hips that don’t move, today is my first day of movement re-patterning. I’m not going to lie. It’s gonna be tough, and my muscles will probably hurt like hell, but if it helps me in my older years by not needing hip replacements or knee replacements and fixing my back problems, then bring it on! Hair flippin'! I LOVE that I can pick from over 700 workouts that I can do from home!! It was an off day for my program so I decided to do a cardio workout! I wanted to get my sweat on, I didn't want to workout more than 30 minutes and no equipment so I didn't have to take Tessa down to the garage. I found one that fit that criteria, laced up my shoes and press play! Simple as that! Free lesson in cheesy gym selfies with every session!! 😂 . I’m surprised I managed to lift my arm up after training today. I did GVT on shoulders and arms plus a few sets of a delts tri-set to finish (and finish me it did!). . It was intense! German Volume Training (10x10 training) is a great way to pack on some muscle and I’ve programmed a few weeks to see how much I can address my lagging upper body. . As you are working at 60% of your 1RM the first few sets feel pretty easy but the cumulative effect soon kicks in. By around rep 8 of each set I was making lifting face and strange noises!! I kept strict to 45s rest between sets (maybe 60s would be more appropriate) even when I superset the bicep curls/tricep dips. That took me deep into the pain cave!!! A 10x10 superset is quite frankly unpleasant! Know how hard to push yourself . When you’re starting out in the gym it can be difficult to judge when to push yourself, when to ease off a little… . I’m not just talking about crawling off the treadmill on your hands and knees whilst breathing out your butt. I’m talking about weight selection too… . If you’re new to the gym and exercise it can be difficult to know what weights to use. What I tell my clients is that when you get to the last rep in a set (lets use 10 reps as an example) and you’re thinking “I could do another 5 reps” then you’ve gone too light and you need to add some weight. If you get to 6 and can’t squeeze another rep out, then you’ve gone too heavy. It takes a little time and experience to get it right.
