The gut reacts in interesting ways pre-travel. The mind-gut connection is a powerful thing and we perhaps don’t give enough credence to the way that stress affects the gut. And vice versa. I’m not a big fan of mindfulness, I know that there are many advocates out there, but I don’t find it actually helps. One thing that I find meditative and calming is reading - reading therapy is for me. Packing these books for my impending trip to Japan and Korea this week.

The Diviners series by Libba Bray is a paranormal YA mystery set in the roaring 20s. The author does a fantastic job showcasing the good & ugly parts of America in this era. I enjoyed how easily the diverse characters came to life. It was never overstated or forced. I disliked how the plot seems to never end. Every book ends with a cliff hanger. The audiobook narrator really saves this series for me. She put on a full production! 3 ⭐️s overall. I’ll probably read the next one 📸photo credit to @thegirlwiththetbrpile 📸 #bookdragon #igbooks #bookreader #goodreads #booklover #bookworm #bookstagram #bookcover #bookporn #igbooks #bookish #booknerd #reading #kindle #novella #audiobook #bookfollow #thediviners #lairofdreams #beforethedevilbreaksyou #libbabray #books📚

Been extra moody lately. I think I'm going through a phase in my life where I'm just too scared of everything and desperate for things to stay the way I want them to. I'm trying to take it one step at a time and convincing myself that at least I'm trying my best to do better, and if the people in my life are too tired to carry my burden for me then I'll take it off their hands and let them go on their own. I don't understand myself sometimes. But I'm willing to bet that what I feel is temporary. At least I wish it is. . . . . { #bookstagram #bookworm #bookdragon #booknerdigans #booklovers #bookclub #bookwormsph #vscophile #vscogrid #vscolife #vscostyle #vscobookz #igreads #igreadsmanila #instabooks #igbooks #totalbooknerd #bookstagramfeature #bookporn #f4f #bookflatlay #bookstagramph #bookwormsph #bookstagramph res #bookstagramph #bloggerph #blogs #vscolifestyle #blogger #photography #vscocamphotos #bloggerstyle }

-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- The Evolution of Man by Skye Warren . . What a conclusion to the Trust Fund Duet. Bear with me here because anything I attempt to write could be considered a spoiler, so I’m going to be as evasive as possible to prevent that from happening. The Evolution of Man starts of six months after the ending in Survival of the Richest. We are thrown right into Harper’s life trying to save the library and save her mom as much as she can from the cancer trying to take her life. GAH! I was not expecting this book to be as emotional as it was. Harper’s drowning, not knowing what to do, how to save was tearing me up inside. Her anguish at slowly seeing her mother deteriorate was written so realistic, I felt myself breaking down too. Then comes in Christopher and Sutton. Two men trying to break her apart but also piece her together and offer as much distraction from her turmoils. The problem was, who did you trust when everyone was constantly lying to you? Who really has your back and who is trying to make you fall? I was SO CONFUSED! I had absolutely no idea who was going to end up with Harper. At one point I thought Sutton, but then jumped to Christopher, and there was even one horrible instance where I thought Harper would just end up completely alone! JESUS! Now, this wouldn’t be a Skye Warren book without her steamy, sexy scenes. I can’t talk about them, but know they are EVERYTHING and more. I’m completely addicted to this author’s writing style. I need more words from her. Again, I also loved how she was able to incorporate other characters from her previous series. P.S. Can I please have more Gabriel Miller?? Thanks! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #theevolutionofman #skyewarren #teaser #comingsoon #bookstagram #bookstagrammer#booklover #allthebooks #mustread #readinglist #bookish #bookworm #instaread #books #igreads #igbooks #booklove #bookaholic #bookaddict #bookworm #bibliophile #booksofinstagram #bookshelf #goodreads #readersofinstagram #booknerd #book #ebooks #bookbuzz #booknerdigans #instabook

Got a new book, "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire. 💙 I bought this last friday for only 15 php and my kuripot self screams, "Best buy!" so there. Haha inflation is super high and for someone who rely on part time jobs, my savings felt meager. Haha in other news, I just received a very good feedback from my thesis adviser so I'm kind of ecstatic today.

Happy Sunday! I ended the weekend going to the Rams/Chargers game🏉. I recently got CAN WE ALL BE FEMINISTS? in the mail, so I brought it along and got to sneak in a few pages on the Metro ride and before the game started💪🏼. Are you guys sports fans? I’ve never been too into sports, but I get realllyyyyy into it when I watch a game in person.

According to both 2006 and 2009studies, those who read fiction are capable of the most empathy and “theory of mind,” which is the ability to hold opinions, beliefs and interests apart from their own. They can entertain other ideas, without rejecting them and still retain their own. While this is supposed to be an innate trait in all humans, it requires varying levels of social experiences to bring into fruition and probably the reason your last partner was such a narcissist.

“She walked home through the darkening glade, singing of the stars, and the trees stood still and listened to her, and the mountains were glad.” ~ Ruskin Bond, The Blue Umbrella from Unhurried Tales. . Unhurried Tales: My Favourite Novellas by Ruskin Bond is a collection of some of his well-known stories. During the last one week of crazy post-holiday work, this book was one of the factors that eased things up for me. Ruskin Bond is known for his tales from the hills, that typically waft of mighty deodars, amicable characters, man-eating leopards, beautiful walks, snow-capped roofs, gushing rivers and more. The tales in this book are no different and carry all that typical Landour hypnotic charm. While The Blue Umbrella is about Binia & the most beautiful Umbrella in the village, the Last Tiger narrates the story of the lone tiger & his conflict with humans. My only discomfort with some of these stories is the human-animal conflict that comes-up quite frequently, something that is prevalent even more now. Besides that, these novellas are the most apt prescription for the haphazard mechanical urban lives that a lot of us are afflicted with. . #qotd : Have you ever faced a situation where you couldn’t help falling for a book, but also had a nagging voice of guilt for the same?

"Sou uma tábua exposta à chuva, é impossível me desempenar. Agora sou assim, retorcida." ❤ "O tempo passa. É a regra. Independente do que aconteça, por mais que pareça que tudo em sua vida está congelado em um determinado momento, o tempo segue em frente." "Parece que meu coração parou de bater, mas sei que não parou. Se meu coração parasse de bater, eu morreria. Mas estou aqui, viva. Where do you draw inspiration? I feel like I always find it traveling... even if it’s not a setting in my story or particularly far from home. A few weeks ago in Santa Fe—just 45 minutes from my house—I stumbled across this beautiful mission church featuring art from the 17th century. It reminded me of how much the world has changed, and not at all, all at once. This is a theme of our series. What’s the last time you were inspired? -Marie . . . #amwriting #amwritingfantasy #writingmood #igbooks #authorsofinstagram #authorlife #writingcritique #nanowrimo #thegrigoribooks #urbanfantasy #writinginspiration

The Kiss Quotient is one of my Top Five Favorite Books. Of all time. • I read it months ago, but I didn’t know if I should share just how important it is to me.... but isn’t that the POINT of bookstagram? • I’ve always understood books. They’re my toolkit. Still, a book has never understood me BACK. I never buy books (because that means going to a store. And stores are loud. And very well meaning staff ask me how my day is. And then I sweat and have to leave). After I read my library edition, I ran inside Barnes and Noble for a personal copy. It’s just so great, guys. Basically, Helen Hoang is a literary treasure and everyone should read this one 🙌 • • • #bookstagram #bookworm #bibliophile #booklover #bookish #booknerd #books #book #reading #bookaddict #instabook #igreads #read #bookaholic #bookphotography #bookstagramfeature #booknerdigans #booklove #bookporn #bookstagrammer #instabooks #reader #booksofinstagram #bookishfeatures #yalit #bookblogger #ilovebooks #igbooks #goodreads #becauseofreading

On a particular stressful Friday at work, I got out early and signed up for a public library card and found Mary Oliver’s weightless poetry. . #bookstagram #igbooks #book #library #washingtondc #poetry

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I really wasn’t sure what to expect but had seen The NY Times write up and thought I would give it a try. I thought it was well written. I also thought it was a balanced look at Lisa’s life. She didn’t demean her father but instead showed a honest and fair look at who he was, a man challenged with connecting to his daughter. I think she showed equal honesty when writing about her mother in the story. I am giving it: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
