On This Day in Herstory, January 22nd 1867, Gisela Januszewska, a Jewish-Austrian physician, social activist, philanthropist, heavily decorated WWI veteran, and Holocaust victim, was born in a small village in Austria-Hungary. Formidable Female Fact: After receiving her medical degree, she was appointed Amtsärztin, a public health official, in the city of Banja Luka, the second largest city in Bosnia; and became the city’s first female physician. She was one of the few doctors in Banja Luka who ensured that Bosnian Muslim women had access to good medical care. She later worked as the head of an outpatient clinic for Muslim women of Banja Luka. In her role, she performed minor surgeries, and gained notoriety for her treatment of patients with smallpox, typhoid, typhus and syphilis, but most of all osteomalacia (a softening of the bones through lack of calcium), which was especially rampant among Muslim women in Bosnia at the time. Following the outbreak of WWI, she spent her time volunteering in the military medical corps, as the only physician available to the Militärkommando (military command). In 1919 she opened her own medical practice, and became very widely respected for her social responsibility; she treated the underprivileged for free, and supported them financially, whenever she could. In 1938 Austria was invaded by Nazi Germany. As a Jewish woman, she fell victim to the Nazi’s racial policy. In 1940 she was deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, where she died on March 2nd 1934, she was 76 years old.

Although the cold has been pretty brutal here in Rhode Island 🥶, it also has produced some spectacularly beautiful designs! Check out our magen David (star of David) out back that has seemingly crystallized underneath all the ice! So cool!!!

Part Two of my big move is driving my car (and lots and lots of belongings) across the country from my Los Angeles home to my Lakewood home.⁣ ⁣ Instead of staying at a hotel by myself each night, I thought it would be fun to meet some of you as I drive my way home. If you are up to having a guest (ss/sk) at some point mid-March and live in or near any of the locations listed, I'd love to touch base with you and see if we can make that work.⁣ ⁣ As of now, my plans are still flexible, so this list isn't set in stone, and it'll be a jam packed schedule, so I don't know how much time we'll have to chill, but I'd love to have you join me on my day trips (the ones in parenthesis are in the plans)!⁣ ⁣ In particular, I'm looking for an orthodox Jewish community where I can spend a Shabbos in/near/between New Orleans and Saraland. ⁣ ⁣ I'm also totally open to speaking gigs along the way - in schools, shuls, private homes, etc. Happy to provide more info on that.⁣ ⁣ - Santa Fe, NM (Meow Wolf)⁣ - Austin, TX⁣ - Houston, TX (RodeoHouston)⁣ - New Orleans, LA⁣ - Saraland, AB (Spartan Sprint)⁣ - Nashville, TN⁣ - Charleston, SC⁣ - Raleigh, NC⁣ - Norfolk, VA

Today, we’d like to introduce you to the Networking VP of the Women’s Rabbinic Network, Rabbi Diana Fersko, who was ordained by the New York campus of @hucjir 8 years ago. * Rabbi Fersko says that she decided to become a rabbi because she loves the Jewish people, Torah, and Israel. * One of the professional accomplishments that she is most proud of is founding Shabbat After Dark- the largest, longest running millennial Shabbat gathering in the City. * Rabbi Fersko tells us that her favorite biblical character is Eve and explains, “I named my daughter after her. I think of her as the first scientist- always testing things and thinking for herself.” * We are grateful to Rabbi Fersko for all that she does for the #wrn and are proud to say that #thisiswhatarabbilookslike * #womensrabbinicnetwork #wrn #jewishwomen #whatrabbisdo @reform_rabbis @reformjudaism

Chana lived in the era before the Temple was built in Jerusalem. She was one of the 7 women to whom G-d gave the power of prophecy. Chana was married to Elkanah whim was a Nobel man from the tribe of Levi. Chana was Childless and so she persuaded her husband to marry another women to give him a child, she hoped that one day G-d would see her pain and she would be blessed with a child. Elkanah married Penina and she bore many children. Penina tormented her endlessly with her barrenness,in order that Chana would continue to beg and pray to G-d for a child. The family traveled to shiloh, there they would sit down to partake in the holiday offering. Elkanah saw her pain and showed her much love giving her the choices of food. Chana could not eat and when everyone finished the meal she returned to the Mishkan stood at the art and prayed. She stood and cried, her lips were moving but her voice hardly more then a whisper. She prayed to be blessed with a child that will be a holy man and she would dedicate his life to G-d........ The Ugly, In other words, the truth? Or at least a possible truth. Intersectionality. It's hard to address gender without addressing race without addressing ethnicity without addressing disability without addressing sexual orientation without addressing religion without addressing political views. As a result, it is very hard bringing all these different women and make them see their similarities only especially in our very tense and very divided political climate. So, how could a nation learn how to unite again? Maybe there's a better question, but we have to start somewhere. #seo #socialmedia #socialmediamarketing #media #mediamarketing #marketing #socialmarketing #thewomensmarch2018 #march #womenrights #jewishwomen #jews #inclusivity #anti-semitism #question #answer #intersectionality #truth #gender #race #ethnicity #disability #sexualorientation #religion #politicalviews

I like trying new things. I like a good challenge. I like being pushed out of my comfort zone. ⁣ ⁣ I also dislike it a lot. I dislike the feeling of not being in total control. I dislike not knowing the ins and outs of what I’m doing. ⁣ ⁣ That’s pretty much how I felt in the above picture when Yaffi of @babybloomnutr took me to a silks exercise class. ⁣ ⁣ But I do it anyway. Because I know that’s what makes me stronger. ⁣ ⁣ Cheesy? Perhaps. ⁣ Cliche? Indeed. ⁣ But so true!⁣ ⁣ I will continue pushing myself to explore different kinds of exercise types and I know that I may just discover I actually enjoy it!

A beautiful mystical teaching says that the seeds that are planted in the month of Shevat (winter) bloom in the month of Nissan (spring time). We must do what we can to till the soil, water and nourish those seeds so that they truly can blossom! Here’s a special visioning exercise to do with your Well Circle, or on your own: VISIONING EXERCISE CREATING YOUR OWN TREE OF VISION FOR SHEVAT Take some time to reflect on following parts of the tree and how they relate to each element of your vision. Then, using any medium you choose, paint/sketch/collage/sculpt your Tree of Vision. 1. Roots or the seed are the kernel or source of your vision, dream, hope or goal. Think forward to springtime, and identify one intention or a goal you want to bring to fruition. That’s the root of your vision. 2. The trunk is the support you already have in your life to realize the intention or goal you’ve set. Identify your skills, passions, and resources. These will provide the strength and energy you need to grow. 3. The branches are the connections, help, and collaborators you can reach out to. Identify those people in your life by name. What kind of help will you need to grow your vision? 4. The flowers, leaves, and fruits are the fruits of your labor – what you will achieve? Identify the joy, sustenance, sweetness, and nourishment that will come forth. What will bloom when you’ve achieved your goal? 5. Send us a picture? We’d love to be inspired! See the full exercise in this month’s Moon Manual, link in profile! As a disabled queer Jewish woman, I often do not feel seen by today’s mainstream feminism. While it is not an ideal solution, I made the decision to join many women in the Jewish community who decided to attend the 2019 Women’s March instead of participating in the boycott. By doing this, we fought to have our voices heard in a mainstream event instead of being lost in less publicized protests. With the outwardly transphobic chants and signs, failure to raise the voices of women of color, disregard of the unique struggles faced by people of intersectional identities, and now the exposure of antisemitic prejudices in their leadership, this march is clearly problematic in many ways. The event has always given an opportunity for privileged people to pat themselves on the back for turning up once a year with their pussy hats, showing off the bare minimum of performative activism. In order to dismantle systemic systems of oppression, we must continue the fight. I want to encourage more privileged allies to use your platform to show up for us and bring attention to issues that marginalized groups face. One day a year is not enough. #womensmarch2019 #bostonwomensmarch #jewishwomen

The Good, There are so many things that we can pick from the march that could've made this better from the weather to the number of attendance. However, one thing we can take from this is that a group of people actually got together and made something in hopes to cause a change. Plus, a lot of beautiful speeches were made. That's a very positive take on the situation and a poor positive take not that. Maybe you guys can do a better job. **2019** The Women's March happened, the means we're discussing the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Let's rip the band-aid and start off with the Bad... The intention of the Women's March is to bring all women together to march. However, the problem with having such an ambitious goal as bringing "all women" together is not all women of all backgrounds will feel included. This year something caught people's attention. Anti-Semitism. A big word and an even bigger allegation over The Women's March. A Quick Breakdown: -Anti-Semitic means to be prejudice against Jews. -Louis Farrakhan (a known anti-Semite, homophobic, transphobic) gave a speech saying that "the powerful Jews are my enemy" -Tamika Mallory (one of the co-chairs of the Women's March) was present during that speech and in the past has supported him(vocally). - The four co-chairs(Tamika, Carmen, Linda, and Bob) have been asked to denounce him via twitter There has been a back and forth on whether or not Jewish women should attend the Women's March. Some did and some didn't. Since I am not a Jewish women I cannot speak for those who are, but what do you think/know? #seo #socialmedia #socialmediamarketing #media #mediamarketing #marketing #socialmarketing #thewomensmarch2019 #march #womenrights #jewishwomen #jews #inclusivity #anti-semitism

Self-esteem, like anything else in life worth having, requires what I call the 4 P’s: 👉Patience. 👉Practice. 👉Persistence. 👉& Prayer. Practice making a couple of tiny positive choices each and every day. Seriously - they only need to be tiny!! You may or may not feel an instant shift in your mindset. But if you hold onto your patience, stay persistent in your actions, and pray to God for clarity and assistance - you WILL build a Rock Solid Self and achieve the kind of confidence, happiness, peace and esteem you’ve been dreaming of. 🧘‍♀️🧗🏻‍♀️🔰💖🏆🤩 #rocksolidself #tinychoices #bigresults #worthit #patience #practice #persistence #prayer #empowerment #selfesteem #selflove #selfworth #jewishwomen #selfawareness #strength #selfacceptance #selfrespect #selfcare #wisdom #clarity #success #growth #connection #change #lifeexperience #journey #painwithpurpose #nomoresuffering #peace #livingwithintention

You left with a full moon. A rare one, like you. The sky was pink, your favourite colour. That soft, vulnerable and graceful tone. The same colour you wanted me to wear because “it’s a pretty colour, don’t you want to look like a pretty girl?”. You were pretty, but I wanted to be strong. Arguing was our favourite thing. You left quietly. As quietly as we would expect from you: shy, proud, always worried about all of us. Your kids. Of all your children, I was your “gypsy girl”, as you called me. “She can’t be tamed by anyone, this girl. But I’m worried and hope she’ll find her way”. And I did it, always coming back to you with a different story. Until you left me here, under this pink melancholic light, veiled by memories and silences, and my funny stories don’t sound so funny anymore. And I don’t feel like surprising anyone. Modern Day Jewess V. Miriam – The Well of Hope . 50 x 50cm Digital Art | Acrylic Print . MIRIAM … is best known as the sister of Moses and Aaron. She is one of the seven prophetesses of Judaism and prophesied that her mother ”will have a son who will redeem Israel.“ (Talmud – Megillah14a) . Through her strength, insight and firm convictions, she encouraged the women to stand firm and fulfill their mission of Jewish survival and continuity in the midst of hardship and pain. It was through Miriam’s merits that the Jewish people were miraculously accompanied by a well of water during their 40-year journey in the desert, the well of Miriam. . Her one big shortcoming was her gossiping and derogatory speech against Moses for which she was punished with a skin disease and secluded outside the camp for seven days … . Miriam, along with her two brothers, provided the Jewish people with the ingredients necessary for redemption – to dispel despair with the light of hope. . #miriam #moderndayjewess #judaism #israel #moses #moshe #well #faith #women #goodjewishgirl #yehudisjacobowitz #hidurdesignworks #jewishart #prophetess #waterinthedesert #hope #digitalart #acrylicprints #spirituality #emunah #womenempowerment #lashonhara #jewishwomen #jewishfeminist #feminism

Yitro warns Moshe that this way of leadership is a crop, like a plant that does not accept the good conditions for its growth ... Yitro gave Moses advice as to how he could lead and transmit G-d's word to the people of Israel, in a way that he too would continue to grow and grow. "And all this people will be in peace." What advice will we get or give ourselves so that we can continue to grow and develop, and not be in danger of being abandoned? How will we nurture ourselves, and become a large tree that gives shade and fruit to us and others? Today's learning is experienced through matter - through light and dark, through the creation of photographic photograms. We will meet tonight at my house, 44 Halamish Street, Rosh Tzurim. At 20:45 - hot drinks and refreshments. At 21:00 - begin. Come and join me for creative learning through matter.

Personally, I prefer that kissing/snuggling DOESN'T ALWAYS lead to sex. I find kisses and caresses over the course of the day are a great build-up to more passion later. If I feel that every kiss or touch has the intent of sex behind it, I actually think it's a bit of a turn off. Anyone else share this mindset? #dating #jewishwedding #singles #datingadvice #findlove #lookingforlove #matchmaker #datinglife #datingjewish #matchmaker #mazeltov #matchmaker #matchmakingservice #jewishculture #jewishlove #jewishwomen #jewishmen

I'm seeing a lot of articles with suggestions for 'romantic' gestures that don't sound very romantic, but they actually are romantic for the recipient... which got me wondering.... What would you like someone to do for you that might not seem like a romantic gesture to anyone else, but would actually feel romantic to you? #dating #jewishwedding #singles #datingadvice #findlove #lookingforlove #matchmaker #datinglife #datingjewish #matchmaker #mazeltov #matchmaker #matchmakingservice #jewishculture #jewishlove #jewishwomen #jewishmen

I get it...feel the sadness but don't "become sad"- feel the anger but don't 'become" angry. Is that the way you see it? If there is any resolution setting for 2019 this looks like a worthy one... #dating #jewishwedding #singles #datingadvice #findlove #lookingforlove #matchmaker #datinglife #datingjewish #matchmaker #mazeltov #matchmaker #matchmakingservice #jewishculture #jewishlove #jewishwomen #jewishmen

IMO, shared values are more important to a long-term relationship success than shared interests but everyone seems to be looking for shared interests and dismissing those singles who don't share their interests. Does the topic of values ever come up when you are dating someone? I personally feel it is tragically unrepresented and underdiscussed. #dating #jewishwedding #singles #datingadvice #findlove #lookingforlove #matchmaker #datinglife #datingjewish #matchmaker #mazeltov #matchmaker #matchmakingservice #jewishculture #jewishlove #jewishwomen #jewishmen

Accept each other - really? There is very little else I can add to that other than: you cannot change your partner. Certainly people change when they meet the 'light of their life'. However, in a way they have chosen to change - in their own time, in a way that feels authentic to them. #dating #jewishwedding #singles #datingadvice #findlove #lookingforlove #matchmaker #datinglife #datingjewish #matchmaker #mazeltov #matchmaker #matchmakingservice #jewishculture #jewishlove #jewishwomen #jewishmen
