The plan was to keep this video under 2 minutes... So 15 mins later I realize I like talking. I'll link full video on YouTube for those interested in kettlebell swings. I tried to touch on the most common errors I see at gyms and ways to correct those errors. The swing is a powerful hip hinge exercise that when done correctly and under the right intensity will go a long way in conditioning the heart, the hamstring and the glutes minus the heavy joint impact that other cardioish exercises can have ( insert running, box jumps etc etc). Video is narrated to make things simpler. Try it and let us know what you think! ・・・ DO YOU HAVE A “SQUATTY” KETTLEBELL SWING?? - Today @achievefitnessboston owner @laurenpak22 brings you a quick and easy drill to prevent squatty swings! - Squatty swings aren’t ideal because when the kettlebell drops below the knees and the knees shoot forward, it becomes more of an up and down motion as opposed to back and forward. The goal of the kettlebell swing is to produce force horizontally by hinging the hips back as far as possible, then driving the feet into the floor and sending the hips forward to project the kettlebell straight ahead. - When you notice yourself or someone you’re working with having a hard time getting out of this squatty pattern, a quick drill to try is to place a couple of small weight plates under their toes. This will prevent them from being able to go as far forward with their knees, and will force their hips back into a more optimal position. - This is not a permanent solution, but rather a drill to help you feel what the more optimal positioning should feel like. Once you’ve practiced with the plates under your toes for a little bit, take them away and see if you can mimic the same hip hinge pattern with your feet flat on the ground! - Tag a friend who might be looking for some kettlebell tips!
