I just was thinking of the great time and many smiles we got and offered to the kids in the Kenyatta hospital. Smiles for change is doing such a great job to show kids with hard diseases how playful love can be. #smilesforchange #travelmore #travelwithimpact #travelwithpurpose #volunteerproject #voluntourism #hopeforchildren #africa #kenya #pwbkenya2018 #nairobi #juggleforlife #playful #flabbergasted #kenyattahospital

Just watched #blackpanther. 🙌🏼♥️ Money well-spent. Worth every penny. Yay for supporting the arts 🎭 that promote cultural inclusion, diversity, and equality. The characters were different, and sophisticated. The women were portrayed as warriors, brilliant engineers, equal, and fierce. It was symbolic and a rich representation, everything it was meant to be from the costumes, makeup, hair CGI, plot lines, and more. ____ @blackpanther 🎥 delivers the goods as an adventure film, a very deep political statement, and a cultural celebration. It shakes off a sluggish start thanks to a memorable cast of characters going up against @marvelstudios’ best-realized villain in almost a decade. My favourite from the @Marvel Universe. Mostly likely will re-watch. _____ If you haven’t seen it yet, you really should.

A family picture of Brian. He was 19 years old when he was killed in broad daylight in the slum of Kayole. He is but one of the victims of Kenya's underground war against crime. His community worries, the police is executing an entire generation of young, poor men living in Nairobi's slums. October 2017. A Maasai warrior is a fine sight. Those young men have, to the utmost extent, that particular form of intelligence which we call chic; daring and wildly fantastical as they seem, they are still unswervingly true to their own nature, and to an immanent ideal. Their style is not an assumed manner, nor an imitation of a foreign perfection; it has grown from the inside, and is an expression of the race and its history, and their weapons and finery are as much a part of their being as are a stag’s antlers. – Karen Blixen – #maasai #warrior #blessed #culture #kenya #africa #mamaafrica

Here goes - first stop NEPAL!! In my 18 years as a learning support teacher in Nairobi, Kenya I have learnt a great deal about education and even more about the versatility and variety of the child’s mind. When I first started out helping students with specific learning difficulty (SPLD) I thought that the challenges they faced in mainstream education could only be fixed with special schools or an entire overhaul of the education system as we know it. However, over the years, I have come to realise that these challenges - that seemed so insurmountable at first - can be overcome through small changes that work to either challenge, comfort or recognise the student as an ‘individual’. A child without hope, self belief or the ability to see how school could ever work for them will be neither motivated or able to easily succeed in education. However, when you show a child that with small adjustments, boring maths or tricky physics can become a whole new world of understanding and information, suddenly ‘school’ is less an uphill struggle than a puzzle waiting to be solved. If you are able to light this fire of curiosity and possibility, you have done your job as an educator - after all, education is not the filling of a pale, but the lighting of a fire. Having retired from school last year, I decided I wanted to work more on enacting this ‘redesign’ of education, but first, I have to educate myself! So, with that end goal in mind, I am setting off across the world to discover what revolutionary educational systems already exist out there, and how they can help shape the future of our children’s schooling experiences. . . . . . #learningsupport #education #learning #learningdifferently #individualisedlearning #schooling #travel #research #outofthebox #forwardthinking #redesigningeducation #educationrevolution #sen #specialeducation #specialeducationteacher #specialeducationalneeds #teaching #nairobi #kenya #nepal #globaleducation #globaleducationnetwork
