Don't train one way your whole life. - I've tried most things, bodybuilding, kettlebell, powerlifting, strongman, throwing and soon I'll be adding some oly lifting at @irontribeweightlifting . - Saturday though I did my first ever official circuit class with @healthyhack and the @jettscarrumdowns team. We went and did on of the new #jseries classes. It was a very different vibe for me with the music and whole team training together, joking around and having fun. I sucked at the body weight stuff but considering I'm the heaviest I've ever been that wasn't a surprise. I sailed through the plyometric stuff though. Thank you throws training. - This morning was back to my usual programming. Training solo in an empty gym. I had fun on Saturday but this is my preference if I'm honest. The solitude is what attracted me to strength training and strength sport in the first place. Alone time is hard to find with two kids and it's alway been something I've found useful for my own mental health. - Big thanks to @the_smiling_assassin_ who did some solid work on friday, without which I would have struggled to get through a weekend of circuit training, throws training and heavy lifting injury free. Deadlift form checking. . I have dabbled in sumo deadlifts on and off for a year or two. My Irish hips depicted that I’d be operating at near maximum ROM, so I always ventured away from them. Granted, it’s from low blocks, but I am FINALLY starting to get upright enough that I feel like I can start throwing load on it again. Short home workout today- started off by playing the fantastic @stack52 strength game with my boys ( this was a gift from my lovely pt client @x_jaskiran_x ) then I moved onto a quick glute circuit 20-30 reps on each 3 sets: kettlebell sumo squats Kettlebell Single leg RDL Resistance band frog hip thrusts Resistance band side lying leg abductions. I then did 3 minute non stop hip thrusts using the band ( which I saw @bretcontreras1 use on a workout earlier this week) and 3 minutes plank hold to finish off😁💪😜. This was about 20/25 minutes out of my day - you can always find time if you truly want to do something! 🧐 Does your training routine increase your performance in life? . 🏋🏻‍♂️ The concept of ‘functional training’ has blown up in recent years but the actual definition will vary depending on who you talk to. So how exactly do you know if the training routine you follow is ‘functional’ & what does it even mean? . 👊🏻 When I program for clients, there are a few guidelines I always follow and include in each and every training cycle to ensure all my clients routines (as well as my own) allows them to live optimally & without pain. It is important to listen to your body and follow your intuitions as the body changes in rapid speed during those 40 weeks. The Kettlebell Swing - a great full body exercise that really hammers the hammies and glutes (that’s your butt 🍑), BUTT you’ll need to have your hip hinge nailed down to get the most out of it/stop it hammering your lower back - I’ve seen people with a strong hip hinge make a mess of it too though - so a quick video step-by-step guide to help progress from your kettlebell deadlift (or even your hip hinge) to the swing and a few ✅’s and ❌’s for the final swing when you get it down. - ❌ don’t use your arms to raise the kettlebell - it’s a butt exercise, not an arm/shoulder one - ✅ your hands are just hooks holding it - all you have to do is grip enough that it doesn’t fly across the room and into someone’s face. Your arms stay straight and go with the flow because it’s your hips doing all the work. Using too much arm? Relax your fingers and notice how much more your butt starts to do 👍🏽 - ❌ don’t overarch your lower back - there’s no bonus points for thrusting more air in front of you, and all you’re doing is taking the work away from your butt (and maybe working on a hernia). Why wouldn’t you want a better butt? - ✅ instead of arching your back, just think about standing up and squeezing your butt as hard as you can. Simple 💪🏽 - ❌ don’t let the kettlebell get too far behind you on that back swing - the closer to the body you have it, the more control/less back pain you’ll have. Nobody wants back pain, or to waste time with an ineffective exercise 🤷🏽‍♂️ - ✅ that being said, as the kettlebell comes down from that top position, WAIT. If you hinge too early, the kettlebell is going to drift further away from you. 18-01-2019 Putting in the work for the @agatsufitness overhead press challenge. Max effort finishing sets. Video 1: left side 3x stacked 28kg. Video 2: right side 3x stacked 28kg (That is a PR). Video 3: left side 1x stacked 32kg and a failed salvage effort on a side press. Video 4: right side failed stacked 32kg attempt, but happy with the long grind at the sticking point. It definitely felt like progress. I have been trying to train smart for this. About two specific pressing sessions per week, with some accessory work thrown in here and there. Banded work, clubs and mace or other movements targeting my weaknesses. I must say it's helping both the shoulder and the elbow injury. Stability is coming back to the right side and I can do heavy pain-free lifts. Always keep learning. Be a student of movement. Øvelserne er: - hænge med begge hænder - hænge med en arm - KB bottum up curl - KB bottum op press - kB fra rack til bottum up - pincet greb hold - skiftende greb af et “odd object” - holde noget tungt 🙂 Alle øvelserne kan pro og regredieres. I’ve always thought kettlebell movements one of the best indicators of strength and body awareness. The swing should be accelerated from both the hinge and the plank/lockout. Even though I no longer compete in #kettlebellsport, one of my passions is talking to CrossFit coaches about why kettlebells are amazing and versatile tools for all different types of fitness . My favorite aspect of kettlebells is that you can train all planes of movement with one tool while increasing flexibility, stability, strength and conditioning . Give this basic kettlebell complex a go for your next workout finisher 🏋🏻‍♂️ . Using routines like this one can be really effective to improve core stability and strength due to the anti rotation element of the unilateral movements, while simultaneously firing up the glutes (during the reverse lunge patterns and KB swings). These routines can also get you seriously fit! . Coordination, timing and mobility also get tested. Try and make the routine feel as smooth and fluid as possible to force more muscles to concurrently work together through all the planes of movement 🔥👌🏻. . -Single arm KB swing. -Squat and press. -Reverse lunge -KB swing and change hands. -3-5 rounds of 90-120 seconds 💪🏻
