Hip Hinge & Squat Acquiring resiliency on executing the hip hinge and squat movements are the basic fundamentals required that protect us from injuries while working out. It is critical to differentiate and master these two movements. Unfortunately, many donโ€™t have the adaptation to safely apply these moves due to sedentary lifestyle or lack of basic foundation. I am showing these two movements through the sagittal plane to give a better view of the difference between a hinge and a squat. THE TOWEL SWING by @forestvance - A common problem people have with the kettlebell swing is using their arms too much. - The Towel Swing is a great drill to fix this issue. - I learned it from Pavel at the first RKC cert I attended in 2009. - By swinging the KB with a towel through the handle, it gives you instant feedback on if you are using your upper body instead of your hips to drive the weight up. It also helps you get the โ€œfeelโ€ for how to fix it. - Hereโ€™s how to do the drill: 1 โ€“ Loop a towel through the handle of the โ€˜bell as shown in the picture. 2 โ€“ Swing the kettlebell! 3 โ€“ The goal is to use your hips to drive the weight up, which will make the the KB to โ€œfloatโ€ at the top.
