Woop! Made it! Kids were at home watching a movie, and the little one was napping. It's been a lazy weekend in our home. Well minus cleaning alllll day yesterday and then going to the gym! 🙍🏻‍♀️One of the biggest reasons why women start to gain weight into their 40’s and 50’s is because they are losing the lean muscle that helped keep their daily calorie burn higher. Here I'm doing the kettle bell squat: 🏋🏻‍♀️Kettlebell Squat This move is a great exercise for toning the butt 🍑, and while you can use a dumbbell to execute the move, using a kettle bell will work more muscles and help challenge your balance. 💪🏻Here I added a rotating ✅kettle bell squat. 1️⃣Stand with feet wide, toes pointing forward, and hold two small kettlebells on each shoulder. (the weight will be determined by what you feel comfortable with) 2️⃣Keeping your chest lifted, squat until your thighs are parallel to the ground. Pause, and then rise up to standing and repeat. This specific D1 athlete is 6'4 and has a long body that needs stability. Here are 2 variations of Kettle bell squats that we are working on which I would recommend for any young Basketball player. 🔈Sound on! ⠀ Check it: You’re in for limber hips and a set of quads and glutes that don’t stop with this one... ⠀ ⭕️ Cossack Squat Circles ⭕️ ⠀ Start with a wide foot stance, toes pointed out, and sink your hips down to one side. ⠀ Keep the bending knee in line with the middle toes as the opposite heel pivots toes-up. ⠀ Stay in a deep squat stance as you shift the torso to the other side. ⠀ Stand up and repeat! ⠀ Adding weight here in the goblet hold position can help you stay engaged with the core and act as a counterbalance to smooth out clunky angles. ⠀ Try 3-5 each way slow and pick up the pace once you’re confident with the pattern!

🌙 Ramadan Training 🌙 It’s often a topic of discussion as to the best time to train and the best protocol to follow during Ramadan. When I was younger I fiddled endlessly with nutrition and workout times. Every year a new plan and 30 days later the realisation that I was going to lose the weight and some of the strength regardless. In the last few years, I’ve found that (for me) the best option has been to try and train just before breaking fast. It’s a little easier to push knowing you can eat and drink almost immediately after. My current schedule doesn’t really allow for this, so now I just get it in where I can. Workload wise, I like lower volume and longer rest periods (don’t we all 😉) but also remember that as the month progresses you’re going to want to reduce volume further. Most important of all however is to remember why you’re doing this. You’re committing to about 20 hours of dry fasting a day for 30 days, why? Make this the priority, train at a maintenance level and when it’s done you can get after it again. Wishing everyone of all faiths a Ramadan Mubarak. Peace out chicos✌🏼

GOBLET SQUAT or a Kettlebell (anterior loaded ) Squats. This is a good variation to posterior loaded squat versions. Once a fitness individual gets familiar with bodyweight squats then external loading can be used along with bodyweight to strengthen joints, ligaments and tendons. As compared to bodyweight squats this variation requires more core stability and balance with the body. Since the load is on the front side of the body the torso works in coordination with the lower body to keep the mechanics of the movement in equation with the centre of gravity. The more a person is aware with the centre of gravity especially during the usage of external loads the easier it gets to execute the movement. First I wanna say: Don’t worry Mom, if I ever use a KB heavier than the 88# I’m gonna wear a football helmet AND a mouthguard 😅 Hit up some heavy Goblet Squats as some Split Jerk movement prep today because my Thoracic Spine is lazy AF. Keyword: LAZY. I‘d say I have respectable thoracic spine mobility BUT I am terrible at staying ACTIVE through my T-Spine. If you struggle with excessive rounding of your upper back especially in front rack positions, I’ve found Goblet Squats are great for developing awareness as well as upper back strength.
