A while ago I started drinking my shakes at work otherwise Joey would drink it on me. Since it’s so concentrated with proteins, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, probiotics, fiber, digestive enzymes, phytonutrients & adoptogen herbs, it’s not recommended for little kids. So when I blend it, I leave him about 1/4 cup and I take the rest to work because he loves it and I feel bad drinking it in front of him. Last year they came out with a kids version of my shake for ages 4 and up. Since he’s such a picky eater (this has vegetables in it) and he will be 4 in 2 months, I bought him his own shake subscription. I didn’t want to wait until he turned 4 because I get so upset that I can’t get him to eat much protein or veggies (fruit he loves). At least this has 10g of protein and is made with organic vegetables among everything else that’s in it. I’d rather he ate real food, but I’ll take what I can get. Do you have picky toddlers? How do you trick them into eating healthy?

Sometime meal planning happens in my Beautiful @erincondren planner and is super well thought out and organized. Sometimes it’s in the car sitting out front of my daughters cross country practice on the back of an envelope. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Moms gotta make it work in the cracks of life. Also- getting a HelloFresh basket this week bc they sent me a discount code. I mean if they wanna send me 3 meals on the cheap I’ll take it. Let’s see if this second time around is better then the first. I’ll let you know what I think.

What's the best way to get started? Created 2-3 mini-goals: things you can do even on your worse days, such as eat 1 serving of vegetables or do 1 push up. You'll find that some days you well exceed your goal by several servings, while other days you may just meet your goal. Consistency is the key. Meet your goal every day and build from there. Why? You are re-training your brain to develop a habit that supports your health. Before you know it, your new habit will be automatic and it will be easy to build on it from there.

Make Dinner with Me 🌿 . . . This weeknight meal is one of my absolute favorites! What’s more nostalgic than sloppy joes? This recipe will make your tastebuds dance, and it’s paleo/vegan friendly! What are you eating tonight? . . . #recipe 🌿 sloppy joes sauce: combine 28 oz. organic canned diced tomatoes, 6 oz. organic tomato paste, 1/2 large onion finely diced, 1/2 large bell pepper finely diced (i used a red bell pepper), 3 tbsp. coconut aminos, 2 tbsp. balsamic vinegar, 2 tsp. dijon mustard, minced garlic, 1/4 c. coconut sugar (add more or less depending on preference, i like mine a little sweeter), 1 tsp. paprika, and s + p in a crockpot. cook on low overnight, or all day while you’re at work! mix with cooked ground beef, and serve on a paleo bun, or sweet potato! 🌿 for an easy vegan meal, substitute the ground beef with a mixture of mushrooms and walnuts. just pulse chopped mushrooms and walnuts until they become a coarse, meat-like crumble and add to the sauce!

I have had a busy past few days but I have been trying to decide how I want to move forward with my social media. As you know my husband was diagnosed with autism last year and though our 2 year old son doesn't have an official diagnosis we helping him through sensory processing disorder and possible autism as well. “I’m not eating anything then and I’ll die of STARVATION” quote from my 10yo! . When our kids are hungry, they WILL eat. They won’t starve themselves. They may be stubborn and refuse to eat to test boundaries, but when they are hungry, they will eat! STAY STRONG MAMA ITS HARD TO NOT GIVE IN!! . We are fighting the uphill battle to teach our children good nutrition behavior. We are faced with the nonstop bombardment of junk food marketing and an insurmountable challenge to teach our children good nutrition behavior. I have 4 kids at home and even though they know a lot about nutrition we struggle to put good habits into practice. . I don’t know about you but everywhere I turn, I see encouragement to eat poorly, from commercials, to billboards, to ads on the internet and more. Our kids are flooded with the same message at the store, school, and parties. I even find poor choices in snacks for the kids, from parents, after sports activities. It drives me bananas to see them get juice boxes, Gatorade, rice crispy treats, sugary crackers and so forth after a soccer game. . Here are a few tips to help at your house. 1) Clean out your cabinets to ensure that unhealthy foods are not available. 2) Be careful with rewarding your children with unhealthy treats if they will take just one bite of something healthy. 3) Don’t force your children to finish their plates. Help them tune into their appetite and satisfaction cues as much as possible. 4) Include your kids in every step of the food-making process. 5) Be creative with the way you prepare your food. Prepare “mini” versions, use cookie cutters to make fun shapes and do your best to present food in fun, exciting ways. 6) Allow your kids some flexibility and autonomy to create their own pizza, sandwich, salad, etc. by laying out several healthy options they can choose from. 7) Talk about how food makes us healthy or not, feel good or bad, have energy for what we want to do, etc. What are some creative ways you get your kids to make healthy food choices? I have an easy fall back way of getting nutrition in mine, but want to hear what works for you!

As a busy mum I love a quick shortcut recipe - I decorated ready-made macarons to make these super cute bees! 🐝 They're perfect for fun party food with minimal time and effort! 👍 Instructions below ⤵️ ⠀ ⠀ INGREDIENTS:⠀ 🐝 6 yellow cream or beige coloured macarons⠀ 🐝 1 black edible marker pen⠀ 🐝 small tube of glitter writing icing⠀ 🐝 12 edible candy eyeballs⠀ ⠀ METHOD:⠀ Using a black edible marker pen, draw stripes on the top of a macaron, including a thick stripe for the head. Be careful to draw lightly so that you don’t go through the delicate macaron crust.⠀ Using the writing icing as 'glue', stick on two edible candy eyes.⠀ Draw on the wings with the writing icing.⠀ Leave to dry for a minute or two, then place on a plate or platter to serve.⠀ Enjoy! ⠀ 🐝

Let's talk packing snacks and food on the go! What are some of your favorite foods to pack-up when you are out for the day with the kids? Snacks I can just throw in our bags and ready to go meals are a must for me. Here are our top 3 favorite foods that help to keep up our energy up and our moods, happy, all day long! 1. Avocados - provide fat to keep us fueled and they even provide their own bowl! 2. Mandarin oranges, apples, pears -fruits you just bite into.  Instead of juices, we eat fruit! They provide the sugar our body needs plus the fiber to keep us full. 3. Cut-up Veggies - ok, these take about 10 minutes of prep time but totally worth it. Or you can purchase carrots sticks and cherry tomatoes ready to go. Throw in some baby cucumbers and your done. Drizzling a dressing on top, like @primalkitchen, makes this snack over-the-top! It is only one more sleep until World Oral Health Day 😀 . Oral diseases like tooth decay are caused by the bacteria that live in the dental plaque on your teeth. Not all these bacteria cause disease though – some of them work to help keep the teeth healthy. So just what can you do to help support the health associated bacteria, and keep the levels of tooth-decay associated bacteria low? . It *all* comes down to acid, which bacteria in plaque make from the sugar we eat. . An acidic environment in dental plaque does a couple of things. Firstly, it can cause the hard tooth to dissolve which leads to tooth decay. The acid also kills off the health associated bacteria, and provides the ideal environment for bacteria that are associated with tooth decay. . Acidic plaque is caused when we eat sugar, as some bacteria in the plaque turn this sugar into acid. The types of sugar that are considered a problem are added sugars – these are sugars added to food during the manufacturing process (like the sugars added in the manufacture of some breakfast cereals) and sugars naturally present in honey, syrups, fruit juice and fruit concentrates. . The sugars naturally present in fruits, vegetables and milk are not a concern for teeth. These foods also help support a healthy collection of oral bacteria (your oral microbiome) by stimulating the flow of saliva and providing lots of calcium and phosphate which the tooth can use to repair itself. . So the best thing you can do to help support a healthy oral microbiome is to reduce the total amount, and the number of times a day that you eat foods with added sugars 👊😀

Yesterday, I had these rainbow medley of veggies prepped and ready to go into the oven. And then we left them as is, and went out for burgers and french fries instead! 😂 They didn’t go to waste, I roasted them when we got back, but you just can’t ignore a breastfeeding mom’s cravings. The cravings are REAL. 🤤 . . How to roast veggies: Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper for easy clean up. Chop medley of veggies (red, green and yellow bell pepper, white and purple onion). Coat with olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Roast for 20-25 minutes tossing halfway. Optional: add few full garlic cloves for garlic roasted veggies. *make sure not to overcrowd the vegetables. . . Meal planing is essential in our house. I get my boy to help pick a meal for the family each week. . Teaching the boy to make good food choices is important to me. Sure somedays I don’t want to battle with him and making a PBJ or chicken nuggets is easy. But if I let him pick something for the family he feels empowered and more likely to eat healthy. . He really at the age when all he wants to do is help and be part of everything. There will be a day when I will not be the coolest person to him and he will want to do his own thing. I love taco salads! This is one of those meals I always have the ingredients for on hand, so I can make it in a snap on busy nights. It’s also a great way to get in some veggies! But, if you’re not careful, those extra fats and carbs can pile on quick. Hopefully some of these tips can help you out on your next Taco night! . •Pick your fats. Which one do you appreciate more? For me, I would much rather have avocado and sour cream than cheese, so I will often omit it. . • Weigh your toppings! It is so easy to underestimate how much you’re eating, so using a food scale helps make sure you are keeping your portions in check. . • Instead of a dressing, use something lighter! We like to mix our greens with a little lime juice and garlic salt to add some flavor and then drizzle some salsa on top. We love the guacamole salsa from Herdez! The combo of these two adds tons of flavor without a ton of calories. . •To add some richness and creaminess to your meat, after it is prepared, add a can of nonfat refried beans and stir to combine. 3 Big Wins and 1 Big Fail . I made this grain-free Banana bread last week and it was DELICIOUS on the first try!!! Trust me that never happens when I am developing recipes and working with new flours. I then taste tested it on the kids and their friends in carpool and got unanimous thumbs up 👍. Lastly I managed to actually get a good photo in natural light ☀️before they ate everything. . . And then...I lost the recipe. It’s one of our fave weekend treats and whilst we are happy to indulge once every couple of weeks, I don’t always want to give my girls ice cream that’s full of sugar and other junk . . Enter, Nice Cream! Have you ever tried this before ? If not, your world is about to be rocked !! . This one that I’ve made is a Tropical Nice Cream because I just loooovvveeeee the flavours of Pineapple, Coconut and Mango together. It’s like the most delicious tropical dream / Pina Colada you’ve ever tasted mmmmmmm but #guiltfree and actually makes you feel happy from the inside and out . . So all you need to do is cut: . 🍌 2 Bananas into chunks 🥭 1 Mango into chunks 🍍 1/2 Large Pineapple into chunks ➡️ Next Freeze all the fruit ➡️Once Frozen, add the fruit to your high speed blender 🥥 And 1 Cup Coconut Milk ➡️Blend until thick, smooth and creamy ➡️You can add a little sweetener such as maple syrup or raw honey or a few dates when blending ➡️If you like if soft then serve up immediately and top with your favourite goodies - think coconut flakes, passionfruit, choc chips, seeds, nuts ..... whatever your heart desires ♥️ ➡️If you want to firmer then pop into the freezer for a couple of hours . . 💖A little Mama Tip: if you get some cute little ice cream cups or cones then your kids will really feel like it’s the real deal. ***CHICKPEA, SWEET POTATO AND SPINACH CURRY*** . . When I haven’t had time to shop I always go to my pantry and usually go for Chickpeas, Red Kidney Beans Or Lentils. They are something everyone should always have on hand - they’re cheap, a great source of protein and super versatile! . I wanted to create a really wholesome, hearty dish full of flavour so I went to my Indian Roots (my Indian Cooking needs a lot of work) and pulled out all my spices. The combinations of Sweet Potato, Chickpeas and Spinach with the Indian spices was just divine. So comforting and delicious! . . CHICKPEA, SWEET POTATO AND SPINACH CURRY Ingredients: 1 Can (400G) - Cooked chickpeas 1 Medium - Sweet Potato - peeled and cubed 2 Cups - Spinach 1 Small - Onion 2 Cloves - Garlic 1 Thumb - Ginger 1 Thumb - Fresh Turmeric 1 Teaspoon - Cumin Seeds 1 Teaspoon - Mustard Seeds 10 - Curry Leaves 1 Teaspoon - Garam Masala 2 Tablespoons - Tomato Paste Fresh Coriander METHOD: 1.Heat a little oil, butter or ghee in a pan , on medium / high heat and add your spices (cumin, mustard seeds, garam masala and curry leaves). 2.Add your sweet potato and cook for a few minutes. 3.Then add your garlic, ginger and turmeric, salt and pepper and fry for a few minutes. 4.Next add your tomato paste and add approx 500 ml of water. 5.Cover this for around 10 minute and simmer on low heat until the sweet potato is tender. 6.Next add your drained and rinses chickpeas and cook a little further. 7.Lastly, add your spinach and a big handful of fresh coriander. 8.Let this simmer for another 10-15 minutes and then taste. 9.Adjust your seasoning if it tastes bland and add some coconut milk if you want it creamy (optional). 10.Garnish with fresh coriander and serve with Rice .
