#backtobasics Warm Up Before starting any activity its very essential that you start with a few basic movements through different planes of motion with aerobic,anaerobic and functional flexibility components. If you start your workout without warming up then you’ll be more prone to injuries and your performance will also suffer. The physiological reason to warm up is to assist your circulatory system in pumping oxygen-rich blood to your working muscles. The idea is to increase circulation throughout the body, in a gradual manner. A proper warm up safely prepares the body for the increased demands of exercise. A warm-up helps you prepare both mentally and physically for exercise, and reduces the chance of injury. Adequate warm-ups also stimulate the synovial fluid in the joints. Synovial fluid is a viscous (“thick”) fluid within a joint cavity. It provides protective cushioning and lubrication within a joint. The purpose of the general warm-up is to raise the heart rate and your breathing. This also helps to increase the muscle temperature, which means your muscles are ready for more vigorous activity. A general warm up should include variety of basic body weight movements like spot jogging, jumping jacks, push ups, squats, lunges, pull ups, chin ups,side shuffles, arm circles etc. The warm up can be a lower intensity version of the workout you are about to do, or it can be a completely different exercise. As long as it increases your heart rate and breathing, and involves the muscles you are about to use, it is considered a proper warm up.

Rare photo of me rowing. . . Wish I could say I love to row.. I don't. . . I am determined to find my love for rowing and I recognize that I am getting better with time and practice. . . Rowing is great for improving your endurance, stamina and strength. I think there is an art of tuning body and mind to finding the rhythm and flow for the perfect row. . . I injured my lower back about a week ago so I am off rowing for a bit but I am content in knowing that I will be back in no time. . . That is the beauty of #crossfit programming. It forces you to do all sorts of activities that you may or may not like in efforts of improving one's overall fitness. . . So.. to row or not to row?
