☆New Blog - The Importance of Being Honest With Where You're At☆ (link in bio) • A few weeks ago I survived one of the worst migraine cycles I've ever experienced, lasting 16 days and triggered a lot of anxiety, along with the darkest depressive episode I've ever experienced. This is my story. • I write about how I was fine, until I wasn't. About how hard it was for me to talk about it and ask for help. How I kept going, barely surviving, because I had to. About how lonely this journey can be, and how I finally made the decision to get professional help again. • It's a bizarre feeling, being in a dark depression and pain cycle while feeling so grounded and trusting that this is where I'm meant to be, and this too shall pass. It was so freeing to write this, but also terrifyingly vulnerable. The reality is, life changes moment by moment, breath by breath. I do my best to observe where I'm at, accept it and move through it as easily as I'm able, reaching out my hand for that loving squeeze when I need it. The #headache part of a migraine is the 3rd phase of a #migraineattack. All of these other lovely symptoms accompany migraine during the 3 other phases. I always have a baseline headache, which my specialist says will be the last thing to go, but the head pain and all the other #symptoms vary at any given moment and affect my functionality. • Advocacy and education are so important. Migraine is a neurological disease that affects 1 in 7 people, whether that be on an episodic basis (every once in a while to 14 days per month) or a chronic basis (15+ days per month). Next time someone says they have a migraine, remember it is more than "just a headache". With love, B. The first time I saw this I laughed out loud because I could totally relate. It’s JUNE! ☀️☀️☀️ My favorite month (okay maybe tied with December). The psychological torment of frequent migraines can create a heavy emotional burden and take an enormous toll on mental health 🧠 Depression and anxiety each impact about 10% of the general population and both are a comorbidity with migraine, affecting nearly 20% of sufferers 😔 These rates dramatically increase with number of headache days per month, with a staggering 80% of chronic migraineurs seen in headache clinics also dealing with mental illness 🙊 I've struggled immensely with anxiety and worked very hard to build skills that allow me to cope more effectively. That feeling when you’re going about your day feeling pretty good and within a few hours you’re deep in the migraine black hole 😣 I sometimes really struggle to mentally adjust to my physical state when it feels like out of nowhere I’ve tripped into the black hole and don’t know when I’ll get to climb out. Shifting my expectations and letting go of plans for the evening feels unfair and frustrating, but I know focusing on that only makes things worse. When my migraines transitioned to being daily. I would end up in the emergency room often, they would send me home with a list of the NO’s. The issue is focusing on the NO brings us down. I remember breaking down to my mother in tears. Thinking there is nothing that I could eat. Finally I put my big girl pants on and we starting focusing on all that I COULD eat! @detoxinista is one of my favorite food bloggers for all those that feel like there is nothing out there for us to eat! 🙌 ps: I own both her books!!
