Still not completely back to normal after a rough bout with a GI bug, but I needed to get back at it to feel normal again 💪 . I didn't push myself too hard did not do cardio or hiit. Just got some lifting in and feel so good that I did. 😁 . I will say that I had a cold last month and a GI bug this month, and I don't think it is a coincidence. Last month, I ate pretty bad and had a ton of sweets. I had not been sick for about a year, basically since I started eating right last year.🤣 . When you inflame your body by eating poorly, you're just not going to have the immune system to help fight off those dmn germs.🤢 . Yesterday I went into a gym and upstairs there were about 20 cardio machines- treadmills, ellipticals and cross trainers and every single one of them was in use. Mostly by women. The aerobic exercise class was also full of mostly women. Yet, over in the weights section tumbleweed was blowing through. It intrigued me because many of the women I speak with ( not all) have a goal to lose body fat. So I was wondering why so many of us are wasting valuable energy on the cross trainer. I polled my Facebook audience last night and from their answers I can see that many of you already understand that the #1 way to burn body fat is through resistance training. If you want to maximize your time working out and get the best results then the majority of your time should be doing weight training, especially if you are a woman. I know it's confusing when we still have the media producing total junk in magazines and celebrity trainers coming out with Aerobic DVD's on how they shed 10kgs in 8 weeks jumping around in a leotard. The facts are: Weight training is a great fat burner, it helps you to gain strength not bulk, you decrease your risk of osteoporosis and diabetes and it makes you less prone to injury. Win win win! With that being said, if you're based in Tauranga and would like to do more resistance based exercise without having to find a babysitter for your kids then join me for the next 6 weeks in our Mum and Baby fitness classes. Full body dumbbells only workout because we all know #mumlife can sometimes get tricky. This can be done at home or in the gym or if the gym is busy and you're struggling to find room. This will give you a great burn when you challenge yourself! A sweaty, later than usual, killer leg day happened. I hate going to the gym after work because it’s sooo busy, but I had to get it done! Also, does anyone have good advice regarding Tennis Elbow? I totally have it and I don’t even know how it happened. It’s been limiting my arm related workouts for too long. ‼️Long Post‼️ Ok friends, I am being a lot more vulnerable with this post. Showing a lot more of me with no angles, no smoke and mirrors. This is me, am I proud of letting myself fall off the wagon and gain so much weight back, no. Do I hate myself and want to loathe in self pity about it, working on that one . Even though I have gained quite a bit of weight, I’m also deadlifting almost 400lbs, squatting 300lbs and benching, well we won’t worry about bench 😂. The next 8 weeks are going to be intense. There are going to be times I want to give up. But I’m not going to. I’m done starting and stopping and starting and stopping. 2019 is going to be my mutha fucking year! So stay tuned! Hard work and consistency pays off. 🦄⠀ ⠀ This wasn’t the result of one month or one program. This transformation happened over the last 6 months. It was the result of taking one day at a time, making the next healthy choice, and not beating myself up when I derailed. This transformation happened through the holidays, nagging injuries, toddler tantrums, vacations, homework, potlucks, long days at work, and a thousand other things I could have used as an excuse to distract me from achieving my goal. I didn’t crash diet, count calories, or deprive myself. I fully enjoyed holiday treats. I ate chocolate. I meal prepped and ate the right amounts of REAL food. I ate bread and bacon and cheese. The photo on the right was my most recent DietBet weigh in at 160.8. 5 months and 27 pound difference. This is about how steady my weight loss has been, although I have been stuck in the 160’s for nearly two months. I have a feeling tomorrow’s weigh in will be a good one! Definitely not a PR and definitely not the best form but after over a year of focusing ONLY the 3s in powerlifting, I'm happy that I can still split jerk my body weight at 115lbs. The last time I maxed out on split jerks was back in May 2018. My form on OLY lifts are not where they used to be but I'm working on them as accessories around my powerlifting. This week has started out ROUGH. Like, the kind of rough when you realize your real-life super hero (aka Daddy) is not invincible and suffers a major injury. The kind of rough that has another family emergency right coming in on top of that and would make "skipping" so easy. And in the past, I would. But this year, I am not letting things get in my way. Smashed legs yesterday; slowly but surely getting my strength back and I know I'll get there! Today was light cardio day and my youngest had her first day of basketball! I walked the track for 30 minutes and then biked for another 20! I’m looking for 10 women who want a sustainable healthy lifestyle and to feel their best - no matter what life throws at them! . These pictures are 2 years apart and I use to think that my stress had decreased between them but honestly it’s the same. When I first started working a full time desk job with stressful dynamics and being a full time, independent, single mom - my stress level went through the roof. 🤯 I started eating like crazy because food was comfort to me and I could only get to the gym every 2 weeks because of my schedule. Slowly the weight crept up and made me feel super uncomfortable. It wasn’t the weight itself that was the problem. I just didn’t feel good and I was fed up with my habits and I knew I wanted to change! . So I tried a different system. Workouts I had done before but more options - in an online workout library. I started following the meal plans, drinking the daily superfoods and measuring out my portions and doing the workouts each day and before I knew it - I had found a simple way that let me sweat in my own home, is portable if need be and kept me healthy so I could deal with everything else in my life loads better! 🙌🏼 PLUS when you have a super awesome and motivating fitness tribe of women meeting you halfway on their own fitness journeys for accountability - you step up your game not just for yourself but for each other! 👯‍♀️👏🏻 . NUTRITION 👏🏼 IS 👏🏼 EVERYTHING 👏🏼! Okay, but really. You all know I’m into working out. 💪🏼🍑I TRULY don’t spend more than 45 minutes, 1 hour max working out daily. It’s usually like a 10-25 minute metcon. The difference in these photos is 5 months (4 months postpartum vs 9.5 months pp), nutrition and consistency! It might not be for everyone, but macro tracking has been a game changer for me! What you fuel your body with makes a big difference. I follow the 80/20 rule— 80% quality, good sourced food and 20% for my sweet treat/ indulgences 😜😉 Wherever you are on your fitness and health journey, KEEP GOING! A little over a year ago, I had a hard time running, standing for long periods, jumping...and even going upstairs would sometimes aggravate my right knee. I would roll my ankle jogging to the car (and people who know me know I don’t know how to move slow). And I thought, geez I’m getting old. On top of my old injury to my femur, hip & knee, I really felt like age was taking a toll on my body. At 34....y’all, I was ready to throw in the towel already! 🤣🤷‍♀️ . When I decided to start making fitness a part of my regular routine, it was partly because I decided I was NOT going to resign myself to that “fate.” I knew that if I could build up strength to support my joints, I could at least have normal mobility for a while longer. I also wanted to feel good, which I knew exercise could help with, and I wanted to get my toned body back after having two kids and kinda just not caring for a while...at first, it was hard. There were things I just couldn’t do. While a lot of it came fairly easily, being someone who was somewhat athletic in the past, it was frustrating to have limitations. And I was a little embarrassed, even though there was valid reason (a broken femur with a rod and screws in my leg). . I could’ve let it stop me. I could’ve said F these side planks! I’ll never be able to do them...😩 It’s easy to shame yourself/your body and stay comfortable in your limitations. But something magical happens when you lovingly push your body and remove the limits you have set in your own mind. . Be ok with where you’re at, love your body the way it is. But continue to challenge yourself and do what makes you feel good in the long run. The body can achieve what the mind believes. The limitations are in the perception. Treat your body like you would good friend. Nourish it, be grateful for all it does for you, but continue to challenge it and TRUST in what it can accomplish. Don’t we all do better when someone believes in us? 💜
