Running through the winter in Utah is no joke. I really can’t even compare our weather to that of the Midwest and back east but it has been pretty snowy and cold. The treadmill has been such a lifesaver for me. I used to hate it with a passion but it has seriously been one of the biggest blessings for me. Thanks @nordictrack for making a great product. So as I ran today wearing a shirt from one of my favorite races last year with some amazing ladies I am grateful for my warm house with my treadmill and I count down the days until summer.

I was able to squeeze in a short run before picking my son up from a school activity. 4min in and I was already happy. I did it! Upper body strength workout, stretching and then 7x400 on the treadmill. 👊 Not only a killer sprint workout but also somewhat of a tempo because I made myself run every sprint faster than the previous one. Started at a 7:30 pace and dwindled to a 6:30 pace by the end. Yassss!! Felt so proud and STRONG. 💪 It was just awesome today!! . . Thank you @michelle.ingersol for joining me and cheering me on. Had about a hour in between work and other commitments today so I totally threw on the runners and took off. I’m going to miss this gym and these views! Today was 6 X 6:00 (4:00 at marathon pace and 2:00 at 10K pace). It went by so fast! I thought this was going to be a really tough one, but it wasn’t as bad as it looked 😅. I was compiling a list of things I love about Colorado. At the top of my list - water refill stations everywhere 🙌🏻🙌🏻 It’s the little things:) Tell me your favorite random thing you love about vacation!! I love hotel soap🤣

I did not enjoy the first half of this run!! I started with half a km warm up and then began to climb. The hill I was running up was 2.5 km, I wanted to turn around more than once but pushed through and made it to the top. The rest of the run was relatively easy and I felt great at the end. It is a good metaphor for life, sometimes life is hard and you want to give up but if you can push through things will probably get easier (for a bit at least).

Since we finally got a break from the rain, I decided to start over with the C25K program. One day, I swear I’ll actually finish it!😜 I used to love running, and grew up clocking extra miles each week for soccer conditioning. As an adult, I’ve had a love/hate relationship with running, but the mental health benefits of getting outside and filling my lungs with fresh air, clearing my mind of stress and remembering to breathe are undeniable. So I’m giving it another shot.🏃🏼‍♀️ Are you a runner? Any tips for not hating it?🤣

I am notorious for putting everyone else first, doing everything for everyone all day, and then running on fumes by the evening, neglecting every plan I had and just curling up on the couch! I’m taking a cue from @msrachelhollis and keeping promises to myself! So tonight when my hubby went to blow snow (yes we got more snow here 🙄) I hopped on the treadmill to walk for a bit! Downward Dog Toe Taps Bird Dog Holds Dead Bugs Panther Shoulder Taps Run through this circuit 3-4 times about 10-12 reps of each, and 4 bird dogs with 30 second holds. Your core will thank you! One of the easiest habits for me to get in & out of is running! Some days I feel like the bad a** mom. I work on school (my doctorate), get in a great work out 🏃‍♀️, do laundry 🧺 dishes clean 🧼 a little...I kill it 💪... SOME days. • Today was like most days as a mom of 2, 2 and under... I SURVIVED! The toddler probably watched too much tv 📺 because he’s potty 🚽 training and we’re trapped in the house 🏡 the baby is teething and wants to be held non stop ✋ and I burnt the sweet potatoes fries 🍟 in the air fryer 🤦🏼‍♀️ and I did one ☝🏻 round of my daily moves because #life • Being a mom is the hardest most rewarding job I have. And I could let the hard bring me down and i could beat myself up for not working out 🏋️‍♀️ and for feeding my kid Mac n cheese instead of the healthy dinner 🍽 I had planned but instead I’m going to give myself GRACE. • In a time of social media, holding yourself to an impossibly high standard as an individual and as a mom is easy and a hard task is to be ok with days like today and instead of focusing on all the “i didnts “ focus on what I did. Yay, I ran today! . The horrible cold is finally easing up, so I decided to test out a 3 miler. A lot of coughing involved... the kind that makes you gag and almost pee your pants. It was great. First outside ride in 2019! Cold but beautiful!!

Crisp air and neon blue skies were the perfect backdrop for today’s run. Long, steep hill repeats challenged me in the best way, and for the first time in months, I can really feel that I’ve gained back some fitness. I’m glad to be feeling stronger with so many miles left to knock out this week. Bonus points for having both feet off the ground! 🙌🏻

So...I was excited and motivated to run today (honestly I don’t even know who I am any more! 😂). However, I made it 1/4 of a mile from my home and the slush was out of control and all up in my shoe. My foot nearly froze off and since I kinda need it, I turned back. I felt defeated. So I gave myself a pep talk (fine- I cried out of frustration) and I ran laps in my house and burpeed it out for M1W2D2. I fell behind because life and sickness. There are times in life when you have to hustle for what you want...sometimes you have to put in the work now; so you can enjoy the benefits later. My heart has always been in social work and you all know how much I loved my work fam😘. Is Your Shoulder At Risk 🤔🤭 . Test your self with this simple test . Hey 👋 y’all . I have a test for you! If you stand with your back up against the wall and keep your core tight so that the rib cage stays down, can you raise your arms so that they move close to 180 degrees or can touch the wall . YAY 😃 or NAY 😞? . This shoulder flexion test is a great tool in my experience to assess the mobility of the shoulders, how the spine might be affecting their movement and if you are at risk of impingement syndrome . Why!? Because if you do overhead work for a living or in the gym and you can’t complete this test than it means you have to force the shoulder to move more than it should because the shoulder blade and spine and not moving enough . In other words, if the spine can extend and the shoulder blade is tilted forward and immobile, then to get the arm overhead the shoulder joint is forced to move more and is at risk of impingement, irritation and pain in the front of the shoulder joint . We are really frequently consulted for shoulder issues at the office and generally have great success with them because we take a comprehensive approach that addresses the actual problem behind whatever condition we consult on . I just want to take a minute to say thank you. Thank you to this amazing community whether it be fellow runners, fitness junkies, businesses, and everyone else. Thank you for your support, but most of all, thank you for sooo much damn inspiration! When life is trying to throw you for a loop, or the winter feels likes it’s lasted years on end now, it’s not always easy to get up and out the door, but you come over here and see everyone kicking some serious ass, and you can’t help but be motivated and get out there for yourself. . My story isn’t all that amazing... just a small town, Wyoming gal that turned to running for physical and emotional health, and now just trying to get faster and stronger. I mean, if I’m going to do it, I might as well see how far I can get, and if sharing any part of my journey inspires just one person, then I’ve succeeded even more. If I could give ✌🏼 tips to women trying to lose weight/change their body composition I would say. 🛑Stop trying to be perfect with your eating. 🛑Stop expecting results so quickly. Over the years I have learned the less perfect I am with eating, the more consistent I can be. And the more consistent I can be (hey 👋🏼 moderation) the more I enjoy the process. And the more I enjoy the process the more likely I can stick with it. And when it is something I feel like I can stick with in the long run everything doesn’t have to be quite so urgent. Results don’t (and won’t) happen in two weeks. The outcome is the sum of cumulative efforts over the course of months and years. And guess what 🤫 if you are doing it right you’ll detach from the outcome and fall in love (or like or acceptance ) with the process and will reach your goal, when the goal is no longer the goal.

Anyone see Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner’s posts from a few months back where they were wearing their bikinis with furs in the middle of a huge snowstorm? 🤔 Well, for some reason, I’ve been DYING to recreate it! 😂 I think it’s because these celebrities pull all this crazy stuff off and I’m over here like, hey, we can do that too! 💁‍♀️ I never thought I’d actually do it, but it snowed and I was stuck on the treadmill again, so today was the day. 💃 Figured this would be more exciting than a treadmill pic. 😜 I may not be a model and your girl desperately needs a tan, but I say, whatever! I put my own spin on it by opting for running clothes instead - I mean, it only makes sense. 🤷‍♀️ Not sure where the sass is coming from, but I’m pretty sure it has something to do with nailing today’s workout. 👊 Workout was a tempo run during quiet/nap time: 15 min ⬆️ 20 min @ 6:58 pace 3 min jog 15 min @ 6:58 pace 3 min jog 10 min @ 6:58 ⬇️ to 10 I did this same workout a couple weeks ago, but I added 5 minutes to each interval for a total of 45 minutes @ tempo instead of 30, and it felt really good. 🙌 Our treadmill has been on the fritz the past few months and sometimes gets stuck about 20 minutes into a run where you can’t change the incline or speed, so I kept the speed at 6:58 and jogged around my basement for the 3 minute RI ha. Oh the things you do to get it done! “At some point, there is no excuse. You either want to do everything it takes to make it happen or you don’t.” I choose to make it happen. What about you? I could barely run 🤪 Deadlifts and squats 🦵 I deadlifted 115 today, which is not very much but for me, it’s a lot! I’m new to weightlifting and apparently have a weak lower back, so I’ve had to take it really slow. I started all the lifts with just the bar haha 45 lbs.
