I am all about making my workflow more efficient. The biggest thing that I did this year to improve my efficiency was to buy a rolling cart. I bought a @rocknrollermulticart R6G and it has changed my life. Gone are the days of making 5 trips to my car to get everything. Load it all up in one trip. It saves my back and it saves time. I wish I would have purchased a car 11 years ago when I started. This cart is loaded down with 4 c stands, 4 lights, 5 modifiers, 2 cameras, 7 lenses, a tripod, 2 hard drives, a laptop and so much more. What is your favorite purchase of 2018? #multicart #rocknroller #gripcart #iso1200 #bts #famousbts #bobbyhotel #nashvillefoodphotographer #gear #cameragear #pelican1535 #timbuck2 #avenger #paulcbuff #worksmart #foodphotographer #nashville

#repost @bumgardnerphoto ・・・ Over the sumer I met the awesome folks at @urbansprout.tn they sell their amazing micro greens at the Murfreesboro, TN farmers market. This fall they decided to do a rebranding and also repackage their micro greens. I jumped at the oppertunity. If you are in Murfreesboro you have to check them out next time you are at the farmers market. I photographed these beautiful micro greens @vinestudiosboro using the amazing natural light that comes in through the studios front windows. I augmented that natural light with two white fill cards. To give this photo a bit more of that farm feel instead of just photographing the micro greens on a white background I used a homemade background made from white shiplap. I added a texture layer with the burlap bag to give us some extra dimension. I then placed a knife in the photo that is from the grandfather of the owner of Urban Sprout I think this helps to give the photo some narrative. So what are your favorite micro greens and how do you sue them? My favorite are radish and I like to eat them on turkey sandwiches. #murfreesboro #murfreesborofoodphotographer #farmersmarket #homegrown #organic #microgreens #greens #sprouts #sprout #eaternashville #eater #foodphotographer #foodstylist #foodbeast #foodblogger #yummy #nashvilleeats #nashvillefoodphotographer #eatlocal #picktn #tennessee

Check out this amazing wood fired pizza from @pastarianashville. This is the Pastaria Hawaiian complete with mazzarella, jalapeño, pineapple and house made Canadian bacon. This pizza is my love language. I know pineapple on a pizza can be a divisive issue. I'm all for pineapple on pizza especially when paired with jalapeños. In other news I lost my voice yesterday. While I don't think of myself as a talkative or outgoing person I actually do talk a lot. Between teaching, networking and directing people on set I have developed my speaking abilities a lot and I really do talk a lot. So let's talk about this pizza photo. It was taken for @nashvillelifestyles at Pastaria in Nashville for an assignment of the best pizzas in Nashville. Since this is an editorial shot I wanted to show some context to the pizza. Pastaria does wood fired pizza and they have this amazing rack of wood as you enter the restaurant. I really wanted the photo to scream this is wood fired pizza. So I used the wood rack as my background. This meant a few things. First it meant that I have to have more than one light source. I like to have my key light to the right and behind my subject. That mens my key will not be hitting my background. So I had two options for getting light on my background. The first option and what I normally would do is add a second light to the background. That was not an option in this case. Because eof table placement and framing concerns I was not able to set a second light. Luckily there is a ton of natural light in this space. So I took option 2 drag the shutter. I took a preliminary exposure for my background and the. Added my key light in so that it was balanced. I then added a fill card to bring in the shadow side of the pizza. Second it meant that I would have to find the perfect angle for this shot. Pizza is hard to photograph. It is a large flat circle with out any height. So if you want to show a background for context you have to hu t for the perfect angle that both shows off the pizza and it's ingredients and the background. #woodfiredpizza #nashvilleeats #eaternashville #nashvillefoodphotographer #eatlocal #nashville #editorialfoodphotography

#repost @bumgardnerphoto with @get_repost ・・・ Is there anything better than a warm apple pie in the fall? 🍎I don't think so. This delicious pie is from @littlemsbakery. I think that food photography should tell a story. While we could just photograph an apple pie on a white background and it would look nice, adding story telling elements helps to draw the interest of the viewer. In this case we added a blanket to add that cozy apple pie feeling to the image. I added some old fashioned beaters to give it the feel that your grandma could have made this pie in her kitchen. The old blue Mason jar helps bring the pie some southern charm. With just a few props we have added narrative. I photographed this @vinestudiosboro I chose to use Tha amazing natural light coming though the windows to light this. I also used two white fill cards to help brighten the side that was away from the light. Watch this space for a behind the scenes video of me creating this shot. I show how I set up and my retouching process. #food #apple #applepie #hotapplepie #homemade #baker #baker #baketheday #forkyeah #foodgasm #huffposttaste #hungry #buzzfeast #eattheworld #eater #photooftheday #yummy #feedfeed #f52grams #liveauthentic #nashvillefoodphotographer #rggedu #rggedubts #pentax

It’s finally here!!! The pumpkin pie recipe everyone has been asking about. I’ve been making this pumpkin pie for 3 years now and EVERY YEAR people go insane. It’s seriously THE BEST pumpkin pie. I’m not bragging guys - it’s not me - it’s the recipe. This comes from the incredible @sallysbakeblog . I’ve taken the recipe and tweaked it to make it dairy free (and you seriously can’t tell the difference). Head over to her page (link in bio) for the recipe - and keep reading to find out how I made this dairy free!⠀ ______________________________________ ⠀ Start all aspects of this pie the night before. The extra time makes baking less stressful and makes the pie even more flavorful. Follow her link to make her insanely good pie crust, and to make the crust dairy free - use Earth Balance Buttery Sticks instead of regular butter. I keep them in my freezer so they are cold and ready to go. For the filling - use 1 cup of coconut cream instead of 1 cup of heavy cream. I typically use Thai Kitchen brand because it’s pretty reliable and easy to find. (Remember the cans should be refrigerated and you’ll only be scooping out the solid coconut cream - not the liquid that has separated away from it). Then you’ll be substituting the milk with almond milk. You WILL notice tiny white bits of coconut cream throughout your filling mixture and it’s totally fine. It will melt and bake just fine in the oven. ⠀ Don’t be afraid to get creative with appearance. I’ve done a crimped crust, a braided crust, the pie dough leaves Sally explains on her site, and for the pie I photographed here I went the rustic route and baked it in a cast iron skillet. Happy Baking!!!⠀ ______________________________________ ⠀ #ashleyerinwest #veggan #nashvillevegan #almostvegan #nashvillefoodphotographer #nashvilletn #nashvillefoodporn #fallfood #eatmoremagic #theartofslowliving #lifeandthyme #thekitchn #healthyish #mycommontable #buzzfeast #nashvillefood #nashvilletn #murfreesborotn #smyrna #franklintn

Yesterday I had an awesome time teaching my food photography 📸 class at Nossi about using hard light. I think that most people know that I'm a big fan of soft light. While I love using soft light hard light has its place as well. ☕I decided to go with a simple subject that is graphic in nature. The simplicity makes the hard shadows look really nice. These are a seasonal Starbucks coffee bean. I chose these beans because of their oiley nature. This photo uses amazingly simple light to achieve a dramatic effect. One @paulcbuffinc Einstein with a standard reflector and a 20 degree grid. The light is placed at a 45 degree angle to the camera orientation. The light is coming from slightly above and causes a really nice hard shadow. I'm not using any fill cards. The result is a photo with hard shadows that shows a ton of texture on the coffee beans. To edit this photo I used Adobe Lightroom and the @rggedu LUTs. #bts #coffeebeans #coffee #rgg #rggedu #paulcbuff #645z #editorial #nosssi #foodphotographer #nashvillefoodphotographer #nashvilleeats #hardlight #feedfeed #eeeeeats #eatfamous #eatlocal #eater #commercialphotography #beans #rggedubts

Leftover Turkey Ramen. Thank goodness Maddie and I listened to the @bonappetitmag foodcast because we got the idea for this dish. We took our water, oven-roasted turkey trimming and bones and added pork bones, scallion, ginger, and carrots and cooked the hell out of it for about 18 hours to make an almost creamy broth. Accessorized with a soft boiled egg, thinly sliced mushrooms, scallions, & homemade pickled bamboo shoots. Next year, I think I’m planning Thursday’s cooking around Friday’s ramen

STOP! If you like Thanksgiving food - you're gonna wanna read this. If you like sweet potato casserole - you're REALLY gonna wanna read this. If you're dairy free and feel like you're super limited this Thanksgiving - you HAVE to read this. I'm not a professional cook...and I'm not a recipe developer...but this is so good guys. Like make it now and eat it straight out of the oven good. This recipe was inspired by the amazing @nikki_chefintraining (check her out) and altered to make it totally dairy free! Make it, eat it, and comment below to let me know you loved it. Sweet Potato Casserole Potatoes - 3 Extra Big sweet potatoes (seriously...get some jumbo ones) - 2/3 cup sugar - 1/2 cup softened Earth's Balance Buttery Sticks - 2 eggs, beaten - 1 teaspoon vanilla - 1/3 cup almond milk Streusel -1/3 cup melted Earth's Balance Buttery Sticks - 1 cup packed dark brown sugar - 1/2 cup flour - 1 cup chopped pecans Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350. Then peel, chop, boil the sweet potatoes. 2. Strain potatoes and add potatoes to the bowl of your stand mixer. Using the paddle, mix on medium-low speed until potatoes are mashed. 3. One at a time, with mixer running, add sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla, and almond milk. Beat until totally incorporated and creamy - pausing to push down sides as needed. 4. Pour potato mixture into a greased 9x13 casserole dish. 5. In a mixing bowl, combine all streusel ingredients and mix well with a fork. Spread topping over potato mixture. 6. Bake 30 minutes. ________________________________________________ #ashleyerinwest #veggan #vegan #nashvillevegan #almostvegan #veganthanksgiving #vegetarianthanksgiving #sweetpotatocasserole #streusel #nashvillefoodphotographer #nashvilletn #nashvillefoodporn #happythanksgiving #thanksgiving2018 #fallfood #eatmoremagic #theartofslowliving #lifeandthyme #thekitchn #healthyish #mycommontable #buzzfeast #nashvillefood #nashvilletn #nashville #murfreesborotn #smyrna #franklintn
