Toronto rendered post-apocalyptic in Lisa Jackson's stunning #biidaaban First Light - happy to have had the chance to see this VR experience in person - thankfully it will be included in both @imaginenative and @viffest for those in the city and Vancouver who couldn't.

We sat in Science class watching a National Film Board of Canada movie about pulleys and gears. The afternoon sun was peeking under the faded curtains and the keeners counted down from 10 with the numbers on the screen. The class chuckled at audio, which sounded like a deep sea diver trying to talk through his SCUBA gear, but it sorted itself out eventually. At the end, Mr. Williams flipped the reels around to rewind and as he was doing that, he asked us what we remembered. All I could think about were the dancing dust particles in the light shooting out from the projector. 💫 #nationalfilmboardofcanada #boardsofcanada #wellandcanal #bridge #trentsevernwaterway #waterlocks #fadedmemories #reeltoreel #vintagefilm #vintagefilmcamera

#tbt // After graduating from design school, The National Film Board of Canada hired me to help them with a crazy film. I wore many hats during my stay with them including assistant art director, concept artist, 3D texture artist, compositor, colour artist, special effects, and cat snuggler, to name a few. That film is now out for the world to enjoy! Link in my bio. Go check it out! It’s also a @vimeo staff pick. It’s nice to see it roll to festivals all over the world and win some awards here and there. // @onf_nfb #nfb #nationalfilmboardofcanada #animation #3danimation #3dfilm #film #canadianfilm #shortfilm #zbrush #horror

🔊 This video demonstrates: 1) an unconventional treatment for plantar fasciitis; 2) use/abuse of a steel roller designed for body tempering (shout out to @thompsonbowtie); 3) The Log Driver's Waltz; 4) the lovable @snyderdick; and 5) the most Canadian thing you'll see today

“Norman McLaren’s “Pas de Deux,” 1968 justly regarded as the Scottish artist’s best work for the prolific National Film Board of Canada, stands majestically at the frontier between live action and animation. McLaren filmed dancers Margaret Mercier and Vincent Warren dressed in white performing against a black backdrop, then manipulated the reel with an optical printer to create trippy, almost stroboscopic visual effect” -NFB #normanmclaren Via @chicojefferson (Mr. Jefferson your account is a must...Bravo!) ____________________________________________________________ #repost #chicojefferson with @get_repost #ballet #1968 #visualpoem #art #dance #opticalillusion #animation #stroboscopic #visualeffect #margaretmercier #vincentwarren #nationalfilmboardofcanada

I always feel emotional when I see my work come together, but I'm feeling particularly emotional with this one. #biidaabanfirstlight is an astounding immersive and personal VR experience by the NFB, Lisa Jackson and Mathew Borrett that centres around our connection to language and in particular imparts on me the weight and importance of keeping our connections to our indigenous culture, heritage, and language. It's beautiful and unique, and being in both the real and imagined versions of Nathan Phillips square simultaneously is unreal. Congratulations to our client, the NFB, the artists, our partners the City of Toronto and imagineNATIVE, and to my team. Thank you so so so much to my team, friends and family (and those of you who are all three) for making this one happen, and for designing, planning, printing, building, welding, working and installing something so gorgeous. The reactions have been incredible, the media hopping, and viewers enthralled. We look forward to a busy and beautiful week here in Nathan Phillips Square. And I one hundred percent could not do it without you all. Very happy. Very emotional. Very tired. Very sore. I love you all.

In 1.5 hours I’ll help open our show, Hinterlands, with my good friends @randallfinnerty, Anne Ashton, and Craig Welch who together are The Groundhogs (Anne and Randall in attendance). Thank you Gallery Jones for curating and housing this exhibition which opens Today, Thursday the 13th of September, 5-8pm, hope to see you there! Thank you @nationalfilmboard @onf_nfb @nfb for graciously providing the Hinterlands Who’s Who footage! . . . . . About us: Anne Ashton, Randall Finnerty, Paul Morstad and Craig Welch came together as artists to exhibit under the moniker The Groundhogs. Eleven years later, they reunite for an exhibition that grows ever more relevant as time passes—an examination of the natural realm as it falls under the influence of human encroachment. . . . . . . #hinterlandswhoswho #galleryjones #randallfinnerty #anneashton #craigwelch #paulmorstadpainting #hinterland #hinterlandwhoswho #oilpainting #watercolour #charcoal #worksonpaper #worksonpanel #worksoncanvas #owl #whocooksforyou #nfb #nationalfilmboardofcanada #galerieyoun #groundhog #woodchuck #whistlepig #snowyowl #anneashton

'Namrata' was my first Canadian film and it amazes me how it continues to speak to different audiences. This film started its journey from Global Visions/ Hot Docs and since then has screened at various festivals. I am most inspired to know that it is used a lot in community settings to ignite honest discussions on violence against women in the families. Each screening that I have been present for has resulted in some very intense discussions with poeole wanting to know more about the main participant &the filmmaking process. Many times women have walked up to me and opened up about the abuse in their lives. I look forward to share the film and my journey with it as a filmmaker at this event hosted by @azeezaforwomen Thanks to the #nationalfilmboardofcanada for getting behind this film and making it possible for me to tell this story. And as always, salute to my shero, @nam_gill. #womeninfilm #womembehindthecamera #vaw #documentary #nfb #hotdocs

#repeat #nationalfilmboardofcanada #prelingerarchives #alvvays #aesthetic #nostalgia

- "Rythmetic" (1956).
