FESTIVAL EATING This sabudana khichdi is one of my favourites. However it's extremely carb intensive & calorie dense. Just one bowl of this can reach a 1000 calories !!! . Our festivals have specific eating requirements, For example the navaratri fast allows lots of fruits, veggies, dairy. These could be used to create brilliant meals. However, we focus on sweets, fried pakoras, cutlets, samosas etc defeating the purpose of the fast. Not to mention how calorie dense these are. With the number of festivals we have in our country, to enjoy the diversity we need moderation. Here is what I do : 1. WHOLE FOODS I eat atleast 3 servings of vegetables and 2 of fruits a day. I Focus more on these, curd, paneer etc to balance it with the refined carbs. 2. STAY HYDRATED I drink atleast 3 lts water a day 3. FRIED I always Eat more of foods that aren't fried. So a sabudana khichdi over a sabudana vada. If I want to try the fried ones i stick to my 80/10/10 rule. 4. SWEETS Our festivals are laden with sweet things. Starting from the Prasad. Here I will only take a small amount to taste. If it's something I love then I might eat more. Else it's just a bite more not to offend anyone. The idea is to work towards a long term healthy diet. Festivals, travel, parties etc are a part of our lives & culture. Most people do a yo-yo diet where they eat without moderation during these times and then go on severely restrictive diets... Till the next festival or party. This binge -- diet-- binge -- diet circle is not doing anyone any good. If you're looking at long term health & balance you need to understand how to eat better not less. For example, after taking out for my son, i added even more veggies & microgreens to my sabudana khichdi and had it with dahi. The quantity of sabudana was eventually equal to the quantity of vegetables. Make small changes to make something more nutritious, when you can. I'm thinking of doing a series on " how to start a weight loss journey or get fitter" from tomorrow. Are there specific things you'd like me to cover ? #nourishwithsim . I get my microgreens from @livingfood.co Use my code "simrunchopra" for a discount.

#repost @anushascuisines • • • Happy Navarathri everyone 🙏🏻 After seeing all your Navarathri special posts felt like contributing one post from my side 😃😃No....No...I didn’t post any new recipe on my blog 🤣🤣This is one of the recipes I had shared last year...will update the recipe link in bio!!!! . . Gudaanna/Jaggery rice/Belladha Anna/ Gud Chawal . Gudaanna is a Karnataka cuisine prepared for naivedhyam(offering to God). There are various versions of gudaanna, but I have learnt this recipe from my mom and this is how she prepares it. I have heard my elders saying that Gudaanna is Devi’s(Indian Goddess) favourite dish. Gudaanna is prepared during varamahalakshmi festival, navarathri and Lakshmi pooja in our place. This is an easy and healthy recipe which hardly requires 20 to 25 minutes to prepare with all the ingredients available at home. . Try this recipe and let me know how you liked it!!!! . #anushascuisines #recipepost #gudaanna #gudchawal #navarathrirecipes #vegetarianrecipes #homecooked #desidiaries #desi_diaries #desikhana #gharkakhana #foodstagram #indiagram #foodblogger #indianblogger #festiverecipes
