You know what the heck this is? Oh......just the location of the GIRL ATTORNEY® Leadership Conference Opening Dinner Gala. That’s right. Once Bryant Johnson (RBG’s personal trainer) said he would come, meet, and lead y’all...and let me know how soon he could do it (April 25-27), I immediately called my first-choice location for this opening-evening event: the National Museum for Women in the Arts (the FIRST museum in the United States dedicated exclusively to women artists). But....would they be booked already.....with only seven months to spare? In DC, especially, one should not assume. I did not....and you know what? IT WAS AVAILABLE. I’m excited to announce that we’re moving forward with a contract, site visit is scheduled for a week from today, and GIRL you can KNOW I WILL BE POSTING PICS then, too. • • #thegirlattorney #girlattorneyleadershipconference #galcon #nationalmuseumofwomeninthearts #nmwa #sistersinthelaw #womenwholead #onestepcloser #waittillyouseethehostinghotel #exclusivewomensonlyfloor #whatifwomenruledtheworld #amysherald #crossingfingersandtoes #registrationcomingsoon #sitevisitsnextweek #whosindc

Being a legend for her enormous success as an actress, only few people know that Sarah Bernhardt also devoted many of her days to sculpture. She even displayed her artworks for several years in the famous Salons of Paris. The National Museum of Women in the Arts, here in Washington, D.C., preserves this marble sculpture, called ‘After the Storm’, made by the artist c.1876. Obviously inspired by Michelangelo's 'Pieta', what it really represents is a mother who receives the body of her son. A young Breton who, entangled in his own fisherman's net, had drowned. A scene that Bernhardt witnessed and never forgot. @nmwa #sarahbernhardt #sculpture #afterthestorm #nmwa

2017/06/09 Tokyo, Ueno, the National Museum of Western Art, the main building, permanent exhibition. Claude Monet. "Water Lilies" 1916. Matsukata Collection. Monet continued to depict a series of Water Lilies, the representative works of him, from the 1890s to his later years. And it is said that he completed about 300 works of "Water Lilies" throughout his lifetime. The composition of the early works was often consisted the water lilies floating on the surface of the pond with a Taikobashi (Japanese style arched bridge) and a Shidare yanagi (weeping willow). Since 1900, the composition had come to be changed into the close up shot of water surface in the pond. In addition, the description of the sky and the trees which reflected on the water increased. This painting is just a typical late Water Lilies. 2m×2m imposing size. When I stand in front of this big painting, I feel like being sucked into the painting, or falling into the sense that I am in a pond. This is an immersive great painting. How to depict the flower of the Water Lilies is extremely rough touch. Exciting and intense.

2017/06/09 Tokyo, Ueno, the National Museum of Western Art, the main building, permanent exhibition. Claude Monet. "On the Boat" 1887. Matsukata Collection. Monet devoted to the series of landscape paintings such as "Grainstacks", "Poplars" and "Rouen Cathedral" since the 1890s, and human figures were almost no longer depicted. Among Monet's works which were depicted human figures, this is the one in the later years. Since 1883, he started living in Giverny with his children, Alice Hoschedé who were in state of common-law marriage with him, and her stepchildren. Two ladies who ride the boat on the Epte River near the Monet's house are Alice's daughters, Suzanne and Blanche. How to take the composition cut off in the middle of a boat, I can feel the influence from ukiyo-E such as the "One hundred Famous Places of Edo" by Utagawa Hiroshige. Already from this time on, his effort had been poured into the expression of "fluctuations of water surface", just like the "Water Lilies" series, which begins to be depicted in the 1890s. The mixing state of white, blue, pink and green is vivid.

My internship with Judy Chicago has come to a close 💥🏜📇 Doing this just before I move to Berlin to pursue my own life as an artist has honestly been so inspiring and motivating for me to keep pushing and creating and going for my biggest, wildest ambitions. I had such an unbelievable opportunity to work with Judy for the past five weeks, helping archive and digitize 35mm slides from previous projects throughout her life in a collaborative effort with the National Museum for Women in the Arts to preserve her legacy 🌟 Judy is a prolific, feminist artist and has dedicated her life to her practice. Getting the chance to see inside some of her life and process has given me srsly invaluable insight on what it takes to sustain an art career as long as she has, and to keep it going stronger everyday! No matter what obstacles one might face. And to never lose sight of what’s really important and meaningful to make art about 🔍 lots of thinking to do .. 👩🏼‍🏫👨🏼‍🔬👨🏻‍🎨👩🏼‍🎤👨🏻‍🔧🧞‍♀️So grateful to have had this experience and for more to come 🌈💞 @judy.chicago @womeninthearts #judychicago #throughtheflower #nmwa

2018/07/13 Tokyo, Ueno, the National Museum of Western Art, the main building, permanent exhibition. Claude Monet. "Walk (Road of the Farm Saint-Siméon)" 1864. Matsukata Collection. At first glance, I completely thought it was Corot's work.A precious early work when Monet was 24 years old. Those year, Monet visited the port town of Honfleur, in the Normandy region of France, with his best friend Frédérick Bazille. The Saint Siméon Farm on the road of Honfleur was a hangout of painters such as Boudin and Courbet etc, and Monet and Bazille were staying there too. He was fascinated by the scenery of the area and depicted many landscapes. It is thought that this painting was completed in Bazille's atelier after they returned to Paris. This painting was depicted in the work of the Bazille, "Studio in Furstenberg Street" (1866). Monet's friendship with Bazille continued until Bazille died at the young age of 28 in 1870, in Franco-Prussian War. In 1866, Monet completed the "Luncheon on the Grass", a large work modeled on Bazille. That painting came to Japan as the centerpiece of the special exhibition "Masterpieces of French Landscape Paintings from The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow" at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum this spring. It is still green in my memory. The same exhibition is being held now at the National Museum of International Art in Osaka. We are lucky because we can watch it still in Japan. #japan🇯🇵 #tokyo🇯🇵 #ueno #nmwa #nationalmuseumofwesternart #westernpainting #museum #france🇫🇷 #claudemonet #monet #matsukatacollection #saintsimeon #fredericbazille #luncheononthegrass #landscape #impressionism #art🎨 #painting🎨

2017/06/09 Tokyo, Ueno, the National Museum of Western Art, the main building, permanent exhibition. Claude Monet. "Waterloo Bridge in London" 1902. Matsukata Collection. The year of 1870, Monet stayed in London to avoid the Franco-Prussian War. So he met William Turner's foggy landscape paintings and was greatly influenced by them. After that, he visited to London several times and depicted a series of paintings of the misty River Thames. This is one of then, the Waterloo Bridge which was completed in 1817. It was named to commemorate the "Battle of Waterloo" in 1815, which Napoleon's France and the allies of British, Netherlands and Prussian fought, and then the Allied forces won. That shows the true worth of Monet, who was called the "painter of the light". #japan🇯🇵 #tokyo🇯🇵 #ueno #nmwa #nationalmuseumofwesternart #westernpainting #museum #france🇫🇷 #claudemonet #monet #matsukatacollection #waterloobridge #fog #thamesriver #london🇬🇧 #williamturner #landscape #impressionism #art🎨 #painting🎨 #印象派 #美術館 #モネ

Claude Monet. "Heavy Sea at Pourville" 1897. Matsukata Collection. Monet often stayed in a summer resort called "Pourville", where is located around the middle point of Paris and London, in the Normandy region of France. And there, he depicted many landscape paintings. It is depicted with coloring lightly and rough brushing. Following the "a series of grainstacks", he challenged these "Poplars series". He always depicted seven or three poplar trees like with cropped composition.
