RARELY USED/LESS COMMON EXERCISES, PART 5: LEGS & BACK - HEXBAR DEFICIT DEADLIFTS Hexbar (or trap bar) deadlifts certainly aren't all that uncommon, but they are definitely less common than regular barbell deadlifts, and even more so when done from a deficit (e.g., here I am standing on a 45lb plate). Hexbar deadlifts put more of the weight/tension on your legs, whereas standard barbell deadlifts put more of it on your lower back and erector spinae. So they are a good alternative to regular deadlifts if (like me) you have lower back problems or are prone to injury in that area. HOTEL/HOME WORKOUT: double tap and save for later. A little glimpse into my hotel workout. • • Do these two exercises back to back for 3 rounds. And then move onto the next set of exercises. • • 1️⃣ 30 reps each leg-Knee Banded Glute Kickbacks (band above knees. This rolling chair wasn’t the sturdiest but leaning against a wall or chair should do the trick. You can also go faster than I do if you would like) • • 2️⃣20 reps each leg- Standing banded hip abduction • • Perform these next two exercises back to back for 3 rounds. • • 1️⃣10 reps each leg- Deficit Curtsy Lunge- find something sturdy to stand on • • 2️⃣20 reps each leg- Leg Swing- you could use a bench if you have one. The idea is to give your leg more range of motion and stretch when it comes further down. You can also just do these in table top position from the floor. • • Give it a try and do not underestimate this. I was dying by the end. Feel the burn and thank me later 🙌💪

SKULLCRUSHERS Such a good horseshoe builder 🐴💪🏼 this was my 1st warm up set but usually we would be going for 40kg/90lbs on a working set! "It’s my favourite part of Monday – LEG DAY 🔥 #yay! If you want to grow, you have to give your body a reason to change. Lift weights, yo (as heavy as you safely can…and repeat). - This was a challenging workout for me (but good challenging): 🔻Sumo deadlifts – 4x4 🔻Banded hip thrusts – 4x12 🔻High box step-ups – 3x6-8 🔻Goblet squats – 3x12-15 🔻Side lying hip raises – 3x12 *lie on the floor and contemplate your life choices - I often find myself exerting just the amount of energy necessary to complete a lift when I should be generating as much power as I can to lift more explosively. This isn’t a heavy weight for me for hip thrusts and I was feeling pretty meh after my first set. Focused on thrusting more aggressively (hush, everyone) and OW my glootes 🔥. Butt was WELL done after 4 sets. - I’ve taken to adding weight to these high box step-ups as my friend @instabooya rudely made me aware I was able to (I’d been doing them exclusively bodyweight). Bodyweight is a good place to start as it’s more challenging than it seems. Make sure you lower with control and try not to push off your bottom leg. - As always, side lying hip raises look ridiculous but crush me oh so effectively. I love adding resistance bands into my workouts! It helps with my muscle strength and it helps slow down my movements to help those muscles get a really good stretch. Barbell biceps curl with resistant band.

The key to building confidence is doing the work. • We all at some point have faced challenges we were unfamiliar with how to execute on. • Being the new guy at the gym with little exercise expereicnce. • Staring to work at a new company not knowing any of your coworkers. • Traveling to a different city and being completely lost in your surroundings. • This is natural and is a constant theme we all face throughout the duration of our lives. • To overcome the unknown you simply just have to put in the work. • Taking action and repeatedly completing any challenge will build up your self confidence. • All of the repetitions will accumulate over time allowing you to feel more comfortable in the same situations. • An obstacle you once feared now becomes second nature, something you’re able to complete without even thinking much about. • Hit the gym more and learn how to perform exercises properly. • Get to know the people you work with and become great at your job through trial and error. • Study a city map and learn the different streets and landmarks to get to know how to get around easily. • If you want to instantly boost your confidence in a skillset, environment or new endeavor just start putting in the effort in time to mastering that skillset. • Repetion. Repetion. Repetion. As obvious as this sounds it needs to be repeated. • Do the work. Get the results.
