PART 2: Eight years ago, I studied abroad in #pontaven France. Follow along with >> #alptravelsabroad 1 – Walking in the underground train tunnels became something of a second nature to us all after awhile. In Portland, we have the Max but it’s above ground. In most of Europe, their trains are all below ground. So a performer in the tunnels would just be a street performer from home. 2-4 - I remember Berlin, Germany as being one museum visit after the next; we looked as so much art in the week we were in Berlin. It’s a city rich with history and culture there was a lot for the school to schedule for us. 5 – “There are always a lot more of us.” I don’t remember where we were or what we were doing but a staff member of an establishment we were at said “Oh!! There’s a lot more of you!!” When we travelled as a school, there was always a lot more of us. 6-8 – I don’t know that we ever figured out why the bear statues were all over Berlin. (If you’re from Tulsa, Oklahoma… these were very much like the penguins that you spot occasionally around town.) Anytime we’d see a bear statue, we HAD to take a picture with it. Since nighttime was the only free time we had… they’re all pretty dark and colored with the city lights around us. 9&10 – “Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe” This was a very depressing, moving, and humbling memorial to walk through. I thought it was very fitting that it was very cold and drizzling. The rain trickled down the side of the memorial and it seemed like the grey concrete pillars were crying; still mourning. As you walk through the memorial, the ground slopes downward and the pillars rise up around you. I breathed through my feelings of claustrophobia and decided not to run but to experience the walls closing in around me. • See PART 1 from earlier today for more from Germany!! #berlin #travelberlin #berlingermany #travelgermany #studyabroad #memories #sweetmemories #alifetimeago #anotherlife #seemslikeadreamnow

It’s a city rich with history and culture there was a lot for the school to schedule for us. 3 – When in Europe, don’t forget to look up… there are so many surprises waiting to be viewed up there! (This was taken at Versailles- a quick stop before Berlin.) 4 – This is why I gained almost 30 pounds! I ate #allthethings (I got the flu on the plane to the States and didn’t eat for a week- problem solved). 5 – An old station that separated the two sides of Berlin. FUN FACT: My grandpa served in the US Army and had worked near this part of Berlin. He told me after seeing this photo on my blog that he was there… in that spot… decades years prior! #timetravel 6 – “Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe” This was a very depressing, moving, and humbling memorial to walk through. 7-9 – We visited the few places around Berlin where the Berlin Wall was still standing. As we toured the rest of the city there was a double brick pathway that marked where the wall once stood. It wove through streets without a clear direction but you could stop at any point and see what a disruption simply having a wall would have on basic life; but then you add political and social issues surrounding the wall as well. 10 – When I would get a few minutes, I blogged about my daily adventures. I am SO GLAD I did as I have forgotten so much but now I have these memories!
