TRUE LEADERSHIP - NAT FYFE I had the good fortune of meeting the Captain of the Fremantle Dockers in an airport lounge a few days ago, and being on a plane with him and the rest of the Freo Dockers for 5 hours. Despite having played an intense game of football for a couple of hours, they were friendly, considerate and real gentlemen from the time: - when I noticed them in the lounge - there were about 150 players from two football teams and their entourages so they were pretty hard to miss! 🤣🕺 - to on the plane for 5 hours when they were clearly struggling to sit down for that time - muscle cramps and stiffness perhaps? 😬😬 - to back in Perth Airport where they continued to say hello to people and smile for selfies when they must have been absolutely exhausted, stiff and probably not wanting to deal with anyone! When I met Nat Fyfe initially he must have also been exhausted and probably had a million things on his mind. However, he took time to speak with me, and appeared to be interested in what I had to say. As I tell my clients all the time, “A team will emulate its leader.” I believe the rest of the team were affable, considerate and real gentlemen largely because of their leader. Nat Fyfe, you have inspired me to be a better leader. For this I thank you. 🙏🙌🏼👍🏻

How can you practice self-compassion in daily life when you are suffering? The way to do it is to ask yourself a question that you’re likely to ask somebody whom you truly love. That question is: What do you need? When somebody else is suffering, the words will come: “What do you really need?” When we’re suffering we usually don’t ask ourselves that question, but if we do, and answer it from the heart, we will be practicing self-compassion. People usually think, “I don’t know what I need!” We can break it into smaller steps. For example: If you’re feeling fear, ask yourself, “What do I need to feel safe?” If you’re physically under stress, you can ask, “What do I need to soothe myself?” Maybe I need to take a warm bath, or maybe I need to exercise. If you’re emotionally stressed, you can ask, “What do I need to comfort myself emotionally?” Maybe you need to walk in nature. Practice kindful resting. Being in nature. Being in the garden. More layers to follow. **This trio is for a challenge I’ve accepted.** . 🍊✍🏼 Sometimes, we need to level up by accepting a challenge outside of our comfort zone. And usually, that can require letting go of things that no longer serve us. . We may need to do a new thing to be able to grow. Letting go of things that no longer serve us means being “done”. Just done with something. Done with habits, people, places, anything that has become deadweight. Again, maybe not bad things. Just things that have served us for a season, but that season ended. . Alignment, flow comes with moving unnecessary things out of the way. Clearing space for new energy. Not in anger, regret or malice. Perhaps in gratitude—giving thanks for how it served us in a former season. We choose to honor the now, align with the abundance set for today, by letting go. . . The research on optimism is clear: optimistic people are happier, healthier, and more productive. Compared to pessimists, optimists have better relationships, succeed more, are better problem solvers and are less likely to suffer from depression. This is because individuals who are more realistically focused on the positive elements of adversity are able to better manage the negative aspects of situations. Realistic optimists reflect upon difficult situations carefully, try to find silver linings and trust that viable solutions will be discovered.
