Today was a rough day...the baby kept fighting nap time, the 3 yr old was so Whiny all morning and my house was a disaster!🤪 BUT I made time for my workout, even if that meant putting the babe in his crib to play while i did my #bbgworkout in his room!💪🏼 #youdowhatyougottado

This has to be THE MOST VULNERABLE posts I have done! My goal is to motivate and encourage anyone who is working on creating a healthier lifestyle, but to also show what can be possible when we fuel our bodies properly. 🍏🥑🥦🥒🥩 On December 27th, we welcomed baby girl number two into our family. On January 7th, I jumped into the #30daystohealthyliving Program. I figured this would give me time to slowly get in the swing of things as a family of 4, but still had the motivation and desire to crave some healthier choices. I have just started week three of my 30 days, and feel shockingly amazing! My goal in these 30 days is to not necessarily focus on losing all the weight, but to feel better and maintain my milk supply. After two weeks, I have lost 2 3/4 inches but no pounds. I have been able to keep my milk supply in the demand that my daughter needs. I have more energy and more balanced hormones than I did with pregnancy number one and I am not having cravings for the high sugar or processed foods. The weekly recipes help make my life much more simple. I also know that what I am fueling my body with is clinically tested by nutritionists and backed by science. My body is becoming more alkaline where inflammation, disease and fat storage cannot thrive. I saw @ww_brewingbabe made some 2sp banana loaves, and it intrigued me! So I made them, except I don’t have mini loaf pans so I made mini muffins and these came out to 1sp for 2 muffins. My first goal was to reach 115kgs. GUESS WHAT!? I have well and truly reached that goal, weighing in at 114kgs this morning. Being a new momma in a new city is hard. Not only are you navigating the overwhelm and emotions of being a parent, but there's a bit of new at every corner. Let me tell y’all, postpartum healing the second time around is no joke. I thought I would bounce back like I did at 19 years old with my first, but boy was I wrong. So here I am at 3 months postpartum wondering why I’m not back in my size 2 jeans yet 😅 Although I’m officially below pre-pregnancy weight, my belly is squishier, less compact, and overall just not the same. I’m back on keto and going strong, and I’m down six more pounds since last Thursday. I’ve been trying to do Body Pump classes at the Y twice a week, buttttttt with an infant and a five year old at home I’m lucky to make it once a week 🙃 People say breastfeeding helps things go back into place but I have found that to be a complete and utter myth because Lincoln eats like a grown man and I have yet to see any real results from it. It’s been discouraging some days, and I can’t wait to not want to flinch and suck in every time Keaton touches my stomach 😂 Also, don’t let the picture fool you, Lightroom color filters and high waisted leggings come in very handy at making things look less squishy 🙃 But would I trade my two perfect kiddos for my once tight and fit 22 year old body? Recently someone responded to my postpartum body with these words: “disgusting, I don’t know what husband would ever want to come home to that.” 😢 • First of all, shame on her. If anything is disgusting it is those words. • Yes, my body has changed quite dramatically since my pre-baby days, as you can see. But let me tell about the woman in the top photo with the gorgeous tan lines and flat tummy. She mastered shaming her body. She had such a distorted idea of body image and struggled to understand self-love and self-care. She would look into the mirror and find everything wrong with her body and worked hard to fix it. • Then there is the woman in the bottom photo. She may not have the perfect tummy, gorgeous tan, and a stretch mark free body BUT she has more confidence than she ever has in her life. She knows the value and meaning of embracing your new body and loving yourself. She takes care of herself by reminding her of the beauty in the body staring back at her in the mirror. She is beautiful and can find strength in what some people would call her flaws. Her body is beautiful and she worked hard for exactly what it is now. • Carrying a child, let alone 3 at one time, is not an easy task. Yes, the journey came with a whole new body, but I am also a whole new me with a greater understanding of loving myself and that is a GIFT! • It takes time and daily affirmations of love and body positivity to really embrace your new body. You can change your perspective! You can find the beauty! You must have grace for yourself. And Don’t compare yourself to the old you and pick out all the imperfections in your new body. It will cause more harm than good. Instead, remember this, you’re on a journey. I feel like it’s been a hot minute since I’ve shared a dinner recipe! So here is one the whole family will love! ❤️ Oh, and did I mention, it’s carb free 🙌🏼⠀ ⠀ Zucchini Taco Bake⠀ ⠀ Ingredients:⠀ Olive Oil Spray⠀ 1.5 lbs of Grass Fed Ground Beef⠀ 1/2 Chopped Onion⠀ 1 Bell Pepper, diced⠀ 2 Cups of Zucchini (chunks)⠀ Salt Free Taco Seasoning⠀ 14.5 oz can of Diced Tomatoes (with chili’s for extra kick)⠀ 1/4 Cup Water⠀ Salt and Pepper to season⠀ Garlic Powder⠀ 2/3 Cup Shredded Cheddar ⠀ ⠀ Taco Toppings- Plain Greek Yogurt, Avocado, lettuce, anything! ⠀ ⠀ Directions:⠀ ⠀ Spray skillet with olive oil spray and add in onion and peppers. Sprinkle with some garlic powder while cooking. Cook over medium heat for 3 minutes. ⠀ ⠀ Add ground beef and cook through. Add remaining ingredients to skillet and cook together for 12-15 minutes or until zucchini is tender. Stir in the cheese and serve with your favorite taco toppings!! But I held myself accountable and so did @nickz_living_sore and So I made it to the gym for the second time this week. . . Trying so hard not to dye my hair and let it chill for the next 12 weeks while my crazy mama hormones regulate, I haven’t done it since December 9th and it’s already driving me up the wall. . . #postpartumjourney - I never liked sharing this picture because I was so venerable in the first one. New mom to 3 kids and a full time teaching job. Let’s just say it was beyond stressful. I also was an exclusive pumper, my baby never nursed. So that meant being tied to a machine every few hours and waking up to pump not snuggle. 🙈💩. - I had 10,000 excuses. I was too tired. I had to pump. I’m a new mom. It’s too hard. I’m not fit anymore. I have no clothes to work out in. So often once women are “cleared” to go back to exercise postpartum they go from 0-60 right out the gate (usually because no one told them otherwise 💁‍♀️) when really giving the body an appropriate “onramp” is what they need! (Key word: appropriate...this is not a call for inactivity or fear of exercise!)💃 . Here’s a sequence I use to progress back to full push-ups and/or planks. (Hey yogis, this is what I do for chaturanga prep! 🧘‍♀️) . Couple things: 🙋‍♀️Need not be postpartum to regress your planks/pushups, I use these for rehab too! 🙋‍♀️OWN ONE LEVEL BEFORE UPGRADING! I think a lot can be accomplished in the core by realizing our integrity at each level and ensuring that how we challenge ourselves is something that is going to build us vs. stress us beyond our capacity! 💪 . #23weekspregnant: IG vs. Reality🤰🏻 . I guess these are both “real” pics of me - but one is me perfectly posed and the other is me just hanging out.😂 Over the last 5-6 years of using this platform, I’ve learn just how much posing, filters, editing, and airbrushing can alter our perception of “reality.” To all the mamas and young girls who follow me, NEVER🙅🏻‍♀️ compare yourself to someone you haven’t seen in real life. You shouldn’t compare yourself to someone in real life either😜 because well... comparison is the thief of happiness! I definitely try to keep it real on here, but at the same time I don’t necessarily share my “worst.” @patriot_rich has seen my worst, and he still loves me LOL😘 . Anyway, just want to throw that out there! Me, I’ve been so bad about tracking macros and reverse-dieting this past week and a half.🙈 I’m trying to do #whole30, but finding it hard to eat enough. Matter of fact last week I lost a pound.😳 It feels impossible to cram in 2,250kcal of just whole foods plus another 250-300kcal on the days I train (typically 4 days per week). So, haven’t decided whether I should finish out #januarywhole30 or just focus on macros.😬 . In other news, my c-section got moved to May 17th, because I really want MY doctor👩🏻‍⚕️ (she’s amazing!) and not just anyone to do the surgery. To most this will just seem like a photo of my nails I got done yesterday. But to me it represents a huge step in overcoming my anxiety. . For those of us who suffer from anxiety, we manifest our anxiety in different ways. For me when my anxiety is especially bad I pick at my eyelashes and obsessively chew my nails. I had been doing this for quite a while in recent months, as things got really stressful and my anxiety got bad. But as things calmed down, I was able to get my anxiety under control again. And me growing out my nails is physical evidence of that ♥️ . The day I came home from the hospital and today (2.5wks postpartum). 🖤⁣ ⁣ I decided my next test group will start February 18th to give myself a full 6 weeks to recover, start to do pelvic core restoration and make sure I’m ready! 🤸🏼‍♀️⁣ ⁣ I feel less intimidated knowing the workouts are only 20 minutes. This is my postpartum. Thirteen days postpartum. . Lately, I’ve seen more and more posts about the reality of the postpartum mom. How the birth announcement of “mom and baby are doing fine” is a lie - because in all honestly as a woman who just delivered a baby vaginally (or cut in half to get a baby out) we’re not fine. We’re bleeding, we’re bruised, we’re hungry, we’re thirsty, we’re sore, some of us are waiting to feel our legs again after anesthetic, some of us had complications that resulted in surgery, some of us are grieving the loss of a baby, some of us learn that our baby is having complications, we’re leaking in places we didn’t think was possible, we feel emotional (with every right to feel so), we struggle with questions and thoughts like; is my baby eating enough? Am I really ready for this? I can’t do this. I don’t feel good. Is my baby warm enough? When was the last time I brushed my teeth? Should I be feeling this way? Am I doing enough for my baby? Is my baby gaining enough weight? Will this flubber belly ever get back to what it used to be? I feel unattractive. . This is postpartum. This is reality. It’s not perfect. It’s not pretty. Self comparison has been the biggest thief of my joy, my entire life. A couple years ago, It was so bad that I would spend HOURS a day scrolling through Instagram doing nothing but comparing myself to girls with perfect hair, makeup, House, car, relationships, and bodies. I was convinced that, that was reality and that their were actually girls who just woke up like that every day and had 0 flaws. 🙈 I was spending all my time and energy completely exhausting myself trying to be like them! I would see a girl that was 4’9 and 100 pounds and make that my “goal body”. One of the many problems with that, is I am 5’8... So it would literally be impossible! Unrealistic expectations = a constantly exhausted Alexa. I wish I could go back and tell the old Alexa all the things that I know now. I wish that I could tell her that my “goal body” looks like happy and healthy vs. a number on the scale or just having a 6 pack. I wish that I could tell her to stop trying to be like everyone else, and realize that the best part about her is that there is no one else like her. That most of those girls on Instagram only post the highlights of their life and the pictures with the best poses. To cheer for other girls instead of competing with them. Comparison will literally steal your life away. Know that You have something so special and unique to offer to the world. Stop trying to be like everyone else, and Embrace every detail, and every flaw of who you are! ✨

Being fat is HARD AF. 📍 Losing weight is HARD. Maintaining the weight loss is HARD. Eating healthy is HARD. Building muscle is HARD. Working out while being a mom, a wife, and working is HARD. But coming from a person who has been overweight, whose ankles hurt for standing too long is HARD. Feeling like the biggest person in the room is HARD. And for me it was going to a mall to shop and nothing fit, this feeling uncomfortable in my own skin. It was hard when I was exhausted from putting excuses for having little energy, or being “too busy” for myself. ☝🏽 I have been there! 👋🏽 While its hard to maintain a healthy(ish) lifestyle. Especially when those around you are not. Keeping up with house chores, kids and work, and trying to find time to workout is, well, HARD! 🗣 I know because, I have been there, and still, at times, find myself there. ☝🏽 But hard things come with good consequences - good and bad. Intimacy After Baby // I had the pleasure of speaking to a Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPs) group in Redmond yesterday. I love that moms are supporting each other in this way and finding ways of educating themselves about their health and wellness. I was so excited to be there and talk with these ladies I took ZERO pictures. But I was joined on the panel by a pelvic floor PT and a postpartum depression and anxiety specialist. There were so many good questions! . One of my favorite questions was about how to improve your sex life with you partner after having kids. I hear so many women talk about this and oftentimes it becomes another pressure on top of all the other things they are managing (and struggling with) as a mom. So, first of all, let’s talk about the biology of postpartum for a sec. Prolactin and oxytocin soar after the delivery of a baby. This is true even if you don’t breastfeed, and especially if you do. These two hormones are in charge of milk production, bonding with your baby AND keeping your sex drive low so you can focus all of your attention on the baby you have. Evolutionarily, it’s less ideal for you to become pregnant so soon after having a baby already so the body has your back (in most cases) to keep that from happening. That means, if you’re not in the mood, it’s totally normal. And some women are and that’s great too. . Other things worth noting…address your pelvic floor. If you’re having pain with intercourse or are feeling disconnected from your pelvic bowl post-delivery (totally normal), seek out a practitioner to help. While pain and urinary leakage are common, they aren’t normal functioning. Also, parenting is a big transition for couples, finding a couples counselor to devote regular time to connecting and working through all of the emotions that come up is a good idea. Women often need to feel emotional connection to enjoy sex and if there are issues in the relationship, they can be affecting your motivation. Lastly, schedule it. Less sexy and yet, still pretty sexy, making a date for intimacy is sometimes the only way to fit it in to work, nap, eating, cleaning and all the other things that go into daily life.💥

Be sure the things you criticize others about aren’t in fact the things that you dislike about yourself. ✨💗

Mamas, friends: please read. The fourth trimester is so important. Postpartum care is so important. I always told myself I would never be “that woman” that dealt with postpartum depression, anxiety, compulsive thoughts, uncontrollable emotions. But, 5 months postpartum and my whole perspective has changed. I’m constantly in and out of the doctors with an ailment, just to be told it’s “my health anxiety” . It affects my daily life in more ways than one. My compulsive thoughts make it so hard to focus on tasks at hand. Speaking for myself, and I’m sure many other women, the postpartum period is so hard. It’s so wonderful seeing your baby smile at you, knowing your baby is happy and healthy. Hearing them laugh for the first time, watching them play and developing new mental and physical skills. Seeing how the little human, that you created and birthed, brings so many smiles and so much joy and happiness to others. We realize how truly blessed we are that we were able to bear a child. Such a beautiful gift from God. On the other hand, we are hurting. Physically, emotionally, financially. The stress is out of control. The anxiety you had struggled with before your child intensifies and affects now every second of your life. The depression is SO REAL. Sometimes, it’s hard to leave your bed. Sometimes, You don’t want to deal with your to do list, or entertain others, or work, or go to the grocery store, or be around friends. The thoughts in your head are constant. Compulsive. Scary. Redundant. This makes it so hard to function daily. The little tasks that were so simple to do before, can look like a huge mountain to climb to get through. The constant worry about your babies health, money, babysitting arrangements. Saying no to things you would like to do for yourself because you just. Don’t. Have. Time. Or, have it in you to leave. I love my son more than anything in this world. I will do anything I have to to make sure he is happy. But, please, don’t forget about us moms. Ask how we are feeling or If we need anything. Stop by if we are feeling up to it just because. Send a random “I’m thinking about you” text. (Continues in comments)

I had so many excuses!! _ When I finally stopped and said "I want to loose weight, I want to be healthier." AND I TOOK ACTION?!! Everything changed. Because even though I had said I "wanted" to before, I was lying to myself. What I wanted was to watch TV. To eat all the food. To wallow. To pretend I could if I wasn't so "tired/busy/yada yada". Pilates will help you re-build deep core strength (not just superficial abs muscles), correct poor posture, and restore proper alignment. Doing Pilates regularly will help you to be more aware of this on a daily basis. You don't need to walk around "flexing" all day - but becoming more in tune with your body through Pilates and checking yourself throughout the day to see how you're sitting/standing can have a big impact on your stomach muscles.
