What is your favorite time of year? Mine is Christmas! I love Christmas. I love celebrating the birth of Christ, the music, the atmosphere, etc. I love finding the perfect gift for every single person on my list. I love spending time with family. I just love Christmas! But.... Christmas comes with just a little bit of sadness for me. 2 years ago this Christmas is when I realized I had post partum depression. It was not a good Christmas for me. Nothing was different about this particular year, but there was very little enjoyment. It felt like I wasn't present. Like I was watching everything from outside a window... I started having anxiety and panic attacks, something I had never experienced before. And something I would rather not experience again. It made it difficult to have fun with my toddler and newborn. I had no energy, no motivation. I quietly told my husband that I thought i had post partum depression and went to see my OB/GYN. She agreed and started me on medication. I told very few people. I was ashamed. I felt like a failure as a wife and mother. I felt like I couldn't get out of my own way. It was low point in my life. But you know what? With medication, I got better. With a regular exercise routine, I got better. With supportive friends and family (the few I told), I got better. And eventually, after a year and a half, I got off my meds. I don't need them anymore. And I praise God for that because this is not true for everyone. For everyone out there struggling with depression, I get it! I know the shame and feelings of worthlessness. I want you to know that you are not worthless! You are sick, and you need help to get better. Unfortunately, we still live in a society where there is a lot of stigma around mental health and illnesses. Unfortunately, there are still those that see depression as weakness and not an actual chemical imbalance in the brain which can be treated. But I am hear to tell you, that life can be better.

I don’t post on connect very much but with the changes and all the groups I checked it out. I joined a few different groups and the one that stuck with me most was the “100+ pounds to lose” group. I posted a little about me and how I had lost 100ish pounds and since having Hazel I am just gaining and losing the same bit. Some stranger that I’ve never even spoke to left me some solid advice. So solid I wanted to share it here too. I guess because I don’t use connect much i was surprised to have such a genuine and helpful reply to my story. I'm normally full of positivity, well at least 95% of the time. I know how to be everyone else's cheerleader but I'm not able to be my own. I feel like as I start progressing I also start to unravel. Looking at my goals for the year I'm glad I only made a couple which I semi achieved. Why do we do this to ourselves set tasks that we know we will most likely fail? I guess it's hope isn't it. Hope that we can make changes to a better self. Instead of making a list for the new year I'm starting today 1. Be my own motivation 2. Actually stop breaking my own promises to myself. 3. Get back to working out in the 5am club! I feel this was so beneficial to my success previously. so my first post. let’s talk lol I can’t even tell you how much I weight in the first picture. well over 180 lbs. when I finally decided that losing weight was what needed to be done. I did it in secret. my friends didn’t know for a good 2 months neither did my parents bc I was ashamed that the problem that they constantly brought to my attention was finally something that got to me. I wanted to be skinny. I didn’t want to cry when I had to cross the street on campus bc I was so embarrassed of people seeing me. I didn’t want to feel like the fattest ugliest person in the room anymore. so I woke up one morning and decided to work out. and the next morning I knew that if I didn’t work out it would hurt more. and those little steps have turned into 3 years february 2019. now i’m doing things way beyond anything i ever imagined. my happiness, my new normal is 150 lbs ruby that enjoys to be in the gym and learning new work outs and eating vegetables and being outside running. sometimes I beat myself up because I gained a few pounds from my smallest but then I realize. at least i’m not 200 lbs anymore. at least i’m pushing myself to learn new techniques. i’m proud of myself and I guess I really just typed all of this because I want people to also take those small steps I did and find their new normal and their new happiness (my power clean progress hasn’t been the best lol) #progressnotperfection

Today marks the end of my @kayla_itsines BBG journey. As a formal athlete I’ve struggled with finding training programs that work for me outside of a sport specific setting. However, not only was BBG rewarding and effective but I actually enjooooyed each workout and was consistently motivated by feeling stronger every week. Plus a better booty never hurt anyone 🍑. So whilst I believe this to be true, I think it’s important to recognise the difference between quitting and resetting. If something isn’t working (and you’ve given it a damn good shot), there is no point continuing on the same way as that is pretty much just a waste of time and energy. I’m 105 days in and I haven’t achieved any of the things I set out to achieve so I don’t see the point of continuing on the same way. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to just give up on everything. One thing I know for sure about Autism is that, I am looking INTO his world. This page from the get go for me, will always be from my understanding, my observation of what my son is going through. I do not know what it's like to see, hear, think or feel from his own unique view. I have a deep respect for teens and adults on the spectrum that state how Autism parents only share from their view etc and how it's not how they themselves feel about Autism etc so I am mindful 100 of that with Luke. Often things capture his attention and I have no clue what's going on in that beautiful mind. So I look and try see what he sees. Autism has taught me so much.
